Suspected sockpuppets

[edit]

The person who allegedly controls these accounts has engaged on vandalism (inserting nonsense strings), likely along with a few IP ranges, at least in enwiki and meta.

  • Skiyomi's user page states that "I am Skiyomi, a 30-something female from the planet Earth", etc.
  • Wild Draw Four's meta user page states similarly, "I am a 30-something female from the United States" and etc.
  • Wild Draw Four and Vandism were editing Vandism's meta talk page around the same time, and Vandism created their enwiki talk page with the same type of gibberish pattern.

Examples of the vandalism/gibberish with diffs:

  • Vandism and Skiyomi - 1, 2, 3.
  • Also there are a few IP addresses conducting the same edits: 216.49.x.x - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5; also 209.239.97.38 with same ISP and same geolocation (Perry-Spencer Communications, Indiana, although the form of vandalism may be slightly different).

I recall coming across some other accounts with the same vandalism too, so CU may determine if the accounts are related and find sleepers. -★- PlyrStar93. Message me. 16:42, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: I just saw my statement above was confirmed below. My bad.
I guess since the check revealed my other accounts, this account will be blocked from Wikipedia, right? Or can I have one chance to contribute productively with the stipulation that any further vandalism either anonymous or while logged in will lead to me being blocked?
Also, I can't even use those other accounts. I get a message saying my password is wrong. I never changed it though, so I don't know what's up with that. Wild Draw Four (talk) 12:16, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It would be at the discretion of admins/clerks. But just for the record, Skiyomi was blocked 31 hours for vandalism, Sierpnia was blocked indef but somehow got unblocked after a UTRS request. -★- PlyrStar93. Message me. 13:16, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I remember those times, and I guess I'll just have to let the admins decide about this account. However, I'm still wondering why my password won't work on those accounts any more. I don't think I was hacked... Wild Draw Four (talk) 13:23, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Those accounts are "globally locked" which is what you get when messing about on multiple wikis (as you know English Wikipedia is just one of a group). A "global lock" is more than a block and not easy to get undone. It's likely, and indeed procedurally correct, that your current account will be at least blocked. I haven't done this to date precisely so we can have this discussion, which is a bit promising for you. However I can't stop another admin blocking you so it's probably a bit inevitable. You will need to decide on one account (which can be one that still works) and stick to that one account. If you are blocked you will then need to appeal your block (see WP:APB). You will also have to possibly deal with the fact that you are globally locked, which I can't really help you with (this is the place to read about that). But most importantly, all the nonsense has to stop. -- zzuuzz (talk) 14:33, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for explaining the situation with my other accounts, that sets my mind at ease regarding that issue (although I wish it would tell me the account is locked, not that my password is wrong). And I also thank you for allowing me to talk about this before blocking me. I understand that I probably deserve to be blocked on account of my past behavior, but I do hope that maybe that block will be temporary. And I will only use this account, Wild Draw Four, on these projects.
Does anyone have any ideas about how I can talk to the admins about not totally locking this account? Since that's what happened to my others, now I'm worried that this account will meet the same fate. And I really don't want that to happen. I promise to not post any more nonsense whatsoever, whether logged in or from an IP. Wild Draw Four (talk) 15:11, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • (non-admin/clerk, just some thoughts about the IP ranges) 216.49.96.0/19 just got off of a global block less than 24 hours ago (global block log), 209.239.96.0/20 just got globally blocked a few hours ago (global block log). With both range being used for vandalism around the same period of time, as well as the same ISP and geolocation, there is beyond reasonable doubt that both ranges are abused by the same person or group of people. The reason 216.49.96.0/19 being quiet recently could be that the range was globally blocked during the last couple days and whoever used the range managed to get 209.239.96.0/20 from the ISP and continue the vandalism. See also contributions at meta; also 216.49.118.0/24 is currently globally blocked, that might also be part of the reason 216.49 range being quiet. -★- PlyrStar93. Message me. 23:44, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm going to close this, and leave the archiving to the clerks, with the following statement.
  • This is unusual situation of global locks, sockpuppetry, multiple users, discontinued vandalism, and declarations of good intentions. I suggest User:Vandism is possibly - possibly - unrelated to the main issue. They are blocked with notice that their username is not acceptable and that vandalism is not good. User:Mehmaster is possibly less than confirmed (though still related) to User:Vandism. They are also put on notice that vandalism is not good. And assuming it was you who did that thing, no it's not funny. I recommend this account is blocked at the first sign of any nonsense.
  • The User:Wild Draw Four person has been previously engaged in vandalism and multiple accounts. They have been globally locked, and previously locally blocked and unblocked, but are not currently locally blocked (just about). Assuming no other admin takes action they are now placed on double-secret probation, with admonishments, reminded that vandalism is not good, and informed that any further disruption will not be treated leniently. Other users are more than welcome to report further incidents. As a courtesy I'm pinging a previously involved admin: @Ad Orientem: who will be the final arbiter on the matter. I will leave further directions on the user's talk page in due course if they remain unblocked. -- zzuuzz (talk) 21:42, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
zzuuzz Holy bleep. I got a headache just trying to read through this. I blocked, and subsequently unblocked Sierpnia after what sounded like a pretty convincing unblock request. If I am reading this correctly they have been engaged in some pretty heavy duty socking. FTR I have no interest in unblocking them or any of their socks that I gather are now globally locked. -Ad Orientem (talk) 00:01, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that, Ad Orientem, and I'm not asking for any of my previous accounts to be restored. But I would like to keep this account, Wild Draw Four, and use it to contribute positively (probably fixing typos and grammar mostly for the time being). If I were placed on probation, for however long the admins deem it necessary and with whatever conditions they set up, could I at least keep this account unblocked? I promise not to make any more accounts or post any more nonsense. And I truly mean it this time. I understand that I am on very thin ice here. Wild Draw Four (talk) 01:06, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Wild Draw Four Did any of your vandalism or socking occur after I unblocked you? -Ad Orientem (talk) 01:09, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, some of it did. I do not know why on earth I was so dumb as to do that even after being given a second chance. But I really do intend to put all that behind me from now on and just be a good contributor. Wild Draw Four (talk) 01:13, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, once bitten twice shy. You can apply for a Standard Offer in six months. I make no promises though. -Ad Orientem (talk) 01:19, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Eltafez - more editing tests with gibberish characters here, e.g. 1 and the insertion (and subsequent undo) of meaningless messages, e.g. 1, 2. The user also said that their previous account is Rilancia per meta talk page. Furthermore, they mentioned "Sierpnia" which is CU confirmed with Skiyomi.

Rilancia - vandalism/NOTHERE edits, e.g. same gibberish insertion as Skiyomi and other accounts.

CU to determine the link between accounts and find sleepers if any. -★- PlyrStar93 Message me. 15:14, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the most recent previous sock I have seen is Radianna, even though that user has denied their socking history.

  • As a new account, Elysedon's first edit was to insert gibberish characters into articles: 1, similar to other previous socks: 2.
  • Elysedon also inserted words like "hi everyone" and similar things: 1, 2, similarly other socks made the additions: 3, 4; they also set up their meta user page with the similar text shortly after the account was created, while other previous socks also like to put something in their meta user pages.
  • Insertion of other dummy words like "okay", sometimes in different projects: 1, 2.
  • Blanking their user talk page after being warned for vandalism: 1, similarly: 2, 3.
  • They also created some useless translations at meta with the "hello"/"hi"/"nice"/etc. texts but those have been deleted.

CU requested to verify. -★- PlyrStar93 Message me. 13:12, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Even more test edits/page moves and just got a temporary block.

  • Nonsense character addition to pages: 1, 2, similarly the old socks: (Elysedon - 3, 4) / (Skiyomi - 5)
  • Promises to not let the vandalism happen again: 1, similar with previous one(s): Radianna, as well as this talk page
  • Also edited Meta wiki as the other socks, creating meta:Talk:Wikimedia Foundation elections/Board elections/ru with the content "Hi." At mediawikiwiki they created some talk page with "Hello all" (which has been deleted, but can be seen from here). Similarly the old socks made quite a few edits or page creations or insertions of "hello everone" or else, either in enwiki or meta.

I note that the last time Elysedon was checked as "unrelated", there's the exact same type of messing around by IP that come from area and ISP different than the Perry-Spencer ones. It could be they have moved place or are travelling. Anyways requesing CU to see if this matches Skiyomi or Elysedon. -★- PlyrStar93 Message me. 03:05, 5 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mentioned they are Skiyomi/Sierpnia: here. Bunch of test or junk edits at enwiki articles and talk pages, e.g. nice/sounds cool - 1, 2. Continuing to add gibberish strings, as well as "Hello" or "Hi". 1, 2, 3. Also note the username is similar to Acquiescence2, an already confirmed sock.

This account, as well as another account Ransei2 (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · spi block · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki) (no edits at enwiki), has also vandalized the same way at Meta Wiki: created page with "Hello." - [1], "Hi." - [2], "Hello people" - [3], "Hi wiki people here" - [4], creating page with gibberish characters - [5]. -★- PlyrStar93 Message me. 15:41, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Similar behavior to previous socks, known for GH/BH editing; typo fixes at first, then proceeds to make these edits ([6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12]). Username is also similar to a confirmed blocked sockpuppet Sei Noelle. theinstantmatrix (talk) 14:20, 18 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sei, thanks for confirming that you're the master account in question. To answer your questions below, very unlikely; with the contributions you've made that led to your block, it's extremely unlikely you'll be able to continue editing here on the English Wikipedia. You are very lucky 331dot came along and (almost) gave you a second chance before I informed you of this case. But now that your new account have been already filed here anyway, here's are the possible outcomes:
  • As a sockpuppet account of a globally locked user, it may be reblocked indefinitely and requested that it be globally locked on SRG.
  • You've said dozens of times that you intend to be a positive contributor/won't do anything disruptive again, but with the derogatory edits you've just made including this one, and with your past actions 5 months ago, the community and I will find it very hard to believe that you'll do exactly just that.
  • Even if you resolve all issues here on enwiki, you still have to deal with Meta-Wiki and other projects, as your past accounts have disruptively edited there as well. I'll just note here that your very first edit with your new account was to create a global user page here.
So sorry, but with all of this that's happened so far, I do not think you are here to contribute. You have been given so many chances to "not do it again" and to "contribute more positively in the future", but this comment at Meta just shows how much they have completely lost all trust in you. Because of past cross-wiki abuses documented here, I'm also going to file a global lock request at SRG.
If this case closes with you remaining unblocked and the lock request has not gone through, then consider yourself lucky. Otherwise, well, tough luck; the only appeal option now is by directly emailing stewards@wikimedia.org.
It is now getting late from where I am, so I'll be logging off after this message was posted. Good luck. theinstantmatrix (talk) 05:14, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If I were to be found to be related to this person Skiyomi, does that mean I would be blocked again? Or would I be allowed to edit here as long as I obeyed all the rules? November Sei (talk) 23:53, 18 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As per advice on my talk page, I will state this here. Yes, I am Skiyomi. But I really would like to be able to edit here in a constructive manner from now on, and leave my past transgressions here behind me. Is there any way I can be allowed to edit here, even if I am put on on probation or something like that? November Sei (talk) 00:31, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • [13] [14] [15] Introducing themselves (on various pages) as their first edits, just like their previous socks + gibberish [16]
  • Not even 50 edits in, and this user already messed around with Wikipedia pages [17] - Teahouse? Maybe a new user, but AN, AN3 and ANI? Hmm...
  • Account username is very similar to the other usernames that are already caught out as a sock of the master - Endymiona
  • Skiyomi's gender is set to female - this account (and some previous socks) are set to female as well (and is declared too on user page [18]) according to popups
  • Finally, this account isn't directly registered here - it was registered on Wikispecies - this sockmaster is known to evade blocks by creating accounts on other projects, and then coming over here - Zelda Anneliese

Skiyomi was created directly after Sierpnia was globally locked, resumed the same pattern of vandalism, and was shortly blocked, GLOCKED, and WP:3X banned. However, Sierpnia was unlocked today, and I think the disruption and trolling that Skiyomi did may continue. Not requesting CU for reasons of staleness.
