I hope this is the right place to leave a comment. Taking a look at this Commons noticeboard section, opened by me, you can find various details about the user's vandalisms that IMHO could be useful here also. After the notice of the user Mike Rosoft i've seen that the style of Jermboy27 here and the one of HorseWitch on Commons seems to be the same. Today he/she uploaded a picture this one, adding in the "Author" parameter the signature "Jermboy27" instead of HorseWitch. So I think there are no more doubts. IMHO crosswiki-vandal, also active vandalizing road signs pages on French and Polish Wikipedias. Regards. --Dэя-Бøяg 18:44, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

About a week ago I blocked User:Jermboytold for creation of unreferenced articles about road signs ("Badziki" being the last straw) and as a sockpuppet of User:Jermboy27. A couple of days later, he returned as User:Jermboytold2. I request a checkuser to catch potential other accounts and to block his IP address. The nth sockpuppets of Jermboy27. Same field of interest (road signs), recreation of the page Road signs in Nepal (created by his last SP Omegaelmo78), same style for road sign pages (when they are not hoaxes using normal US/UK signs for countries as Kuwait, they look like a Commons' gallery)... The "yield" in the name confirms that he is JB... It is a sort of mania of him for this sign. For further infos, see Commons:ANV/Jermboy27. I believe Jermbollano is another sock of the Jermboy sock master. Besides the similarity in user name, this account has been making numerous edits related to road signs (Jermboy's main focus) and creating articles such as Road signs in Senegal which are clearly false. I believe this is an obvious case of socking. Furthermore, I believe that Bareyman61 is a sock of Jermbollano because they both have made the same edits to Comparison of European road signs adding the "No Equestrians" sign (1, 2). Bareyman61 has already been blocked for edit warring on that article and using an IP to evade that block. Fry1989 eh? 17:24, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I believe this is an obvious sock, considering the similarity in name with Jermbollano who I did a report for 3 weeks ago. Also has edited Comparison of European road signs, and created their own road sign comparison table. I don't think a checkuser is required for a global lock of this one too. Another obvious sock with that user name, along with the associated IP. Both have been editing Road signs in Burma which is an obvious fake article. No checkuser seems necessary, please block both and delete the article in question. Also considering this has been the 3rd sock report I have prepared for this user in as many months, I would strongly suggest a range block. Fry1989 eh? 16:50, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Clerk note:  Looks like a duck to me. Reallynotjermboy27 claims that he is "not Jermboy27 anymore" on his talk page [1]. The IP is editing the sane article, and other road sign articles, which we know is what Jermboy27 is interested in. Admin should block. By the way, what about User:Thenarioguy7? He originally created Road signs in Burma. The article was deleted [2] as a creation of blocked user Jermboy27, but Thenarioguy7 was not blocked, nor tagged as a sockpuppet. User contributions and focus make this appear to be another Jermboy sock. They have uploaded fake road signs on Commons (this sign does not exist in the Philippine signs manual), as well as fake articles here on Wikipedia, such as Comparison of ATCMD-Influenced traffic signs. There is no such "Asia-America Traffic Control Manual Devices" as they call it. They are also adding it to templates incorrectly. I don't believe a checkuser is required per the Duck test. The persistent abuse in the last 24 hours towards Comparison of European road signs, I can only ascribe to Jermboy. I had to file a vandalism report because it required immediate attention, but the IP has only been blocked for 2 days. • No comment on rangeblock, but the IP is clearly a Jermboy sock, and should be blocked a whole lot longer than 48 hours. Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 20:51, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Vanjagenije: Thanks for the policy link, I am aware that IPs are normally not handed long-term blocks. My comment is based on the other Jermboy IPs which, if blocked at all, have been blocked for one week, then one year when they invariably return: 203.97.254.233, 101.166.195.231. Nobody else has ever edited from this IP, it won't hurt anything to block it for a year right off the bat, but for policy. Best left up to admins, of course. Ivanvector 🍁 (talk) 21:04, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Ivanvector: If nobody edited from that IP before, than there is a big possibility that the IP is dynamic. Blocking a dynamic IP for a year would be very, very wrong. Vanjagenije (talk) 21:06, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding why I requested a range block, Jermboy is a long-term sockpuppeteer with no signs of getting tired of playing this game. The number of socks detected/verified on Wikipedia and Commons are extensive. Only a few days ago, I did a sock investigation for Jecoman and within a few days, there has been both IP abuse and the emergence of Jecomanisback. If it is believed that a range block would not be helpful, I retract my request. Fry1989 eh? 23:35, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Main interest is in roads, the other two socks have only ever interacted with Thent1234, adding unreferenced content and fake images of signs (uploaded onto Commons[3][4][5]). The style of writing and interaction is a WP:DUCK.

Also has been editing in non-road related articles[6][7][8][9][10][11], similar to Jermboy27, as are the usernames. Thegwh32 and Thent1234 edit summary style is similar, if not the same, both use Google Maps/Street View as a source Thegwh32 and Thent1234. This is also rather strange, as was this barnstars by Thevic1234 and the two[12][13] GA reviews done by a very new account (Altnr1), that Thent1234 happen to ask on the talk page. Lastly there has been some copyright/plagiarism been detected [14][15]. Since there seems to be new account (Altnr1 and seems to use different accounts before abandon them, Thegwh32 being one), a check of other socks and sleepers is requested. While this happened on Commons, they removed my comments on the likely being sock puppets of Jermboy27 and attempted a speedy deletion of the deletion page, but they have demonstrate the same lack of understanding that Jermboy had. Bidgee (talk) 11:44, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Bidgee

I didn't know there was a user called Jermboy27 till yesterday. If Jermboy27 lives in Perth, and I live in Sydney, it's not the case. Also I am a huge Kylie Fan, and the other accounts i.e. Thevic1234 and Altnr1 are accounts of my friends borrowing my laptop. Thegwh32 has nothing to do with this, keep them out. Yes we all are new to Wikipedia and I don't think Thegwh32 even knows what Jermboy27 is. We both use Maps as our sources but yes we are separate and Thevic1234 and Altnr1 haven't cited anyhting yet.

Thent1234 () 00:36, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jermboy27 was also known to edit from NZ IPs and Perth IPs but the last case that looked at IPs was in 2016 (so all we know is the sock may have moved or is using a proxy). There was enough evidence to point that there maybe a connection due to the editing style and fake signs. I highly doubt the other accounts are "friends", the editing style is the same as your own (including edit summaries). Bidgee (talk) 01:21, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

IPs are of Jermboy27/Thent1234 by passing the block, more evidence that the user changes IPs and possibly created new accounts, so a CU is required based of past behaviour. WAgoesalphanumeric is extremely suspect, the last sock openly admitted that they are from Sydney, as does the new account.

The explanation of the user name from both Thent1234[16] is also rather similar in style WAgoesalphanumeric[17], it is also interesting that an Sydney based Educational Institute IP attempted to vandalise a Thent1234 related page back in October (based off the filter log [can share the link privately to CUs]). Thent1234 also had mentioned they lived in Townsville, WAgoesalphanumeric added an item to an obscure draft page. Further more is rather experienced for a "new user", undone AussieLegend's revert of Thent1234's removal. Interests in Australian roads[18][19], along with the very similar edit summary and editing styles. Bidgee (talk) 12:33, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

16 January 2021[edit]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Created on 24 December, AussieCoinCollector was originally known as RealLifeLorefan80 but was renamed on the 8 January 2021, the original name follows the same standard of naming we have seen in the past from Jermboy27. Although they have started editing in other areas (e.g. Australian coins) they have still edited in Australian road related pages (main and talk, [26], [27], [28]) and follows the same patten and behaviour as previous socks. They also state that they're from Sydney, in a contribution showed that they are from the same area as the past recent socks (can provide privately to CU, since I do not like to out the detailed location of editors) but they did create a template for the Western Sydney University and Western Sydney, which is in the area/region the past socks have stated they are from. The suspected sock's username signature is also of interest " wish the entire world's COVID-19 status was like Western Australia, 275+ days of no local cases :) " and editing WA relates articles ([29], [30], [31]), Jermboy's IPs in the early days were from WA (Perth).

The suspected sock has also been rather sloppy when it comes to editing ([32], [33]) including editing bios ([34], [35], [36], Joseph Pisenti (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Joseph_Pisenti) AfD) and creating road articles for roads that really don't need their own article and using Wikipedia as a source, editing a draft that one of their socks (WAgoesalphanumeric) had edited, which is the same patten (editing style) and behaviour the Jermboy socks have done in the past. What makes the case much stronger is the removal of Thent1234 name from the NT WikiProject, same style of GA reviews. I have had zero interaction with but they mentioned myself on their own talk page, gets involved in an old talk page discussion where they have mode zero contributions to and of interest add a template to a harrasment account (Jermboy created User:Bidgeeeee in November) and lists another other Jermboy27 sock (Barneyuj (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)) at User talk:AmandaNP/UAA/Blacklist. Also like the last sock(s), states that Google Maps/Street View is reliable.

I have requested a CU for any other sock accounts that have been created per past recent history of the sock master. Bidgee (talk) 05:46, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The last sock, BidgeeIsADictator was clearly a harassment account. This account has put, Bidgee Dictator [37] on User:Bidgee's talk page and username is also road related. Also edited Wagga Wagga as well,[38] which is a city (or town, it's kinda debatable but that's for another day) in the Riverina and is what User:Bidgee is interested in. Since the account is a vandalism only account, it needs to be blocked.

I would want a hard block on that IP address and request a CU check for any other sleepers.

(Also on a side note, the account BidgeeIsADictator hasn't been tagged. 14.200.144.191 (talk) 03:36, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This case is being reviewed by Tamzin as part of their training as a clerk. Please allow them to process the entire case without interference. You may pose any questions or concerns either on their talk page or on this page.

  • Milk point Already blocked by Longhair. I don't think they're a Jermboy sock, though: They do not seem to be a native English speaker (or is very good at faking that), while Jermboy is either a native English speaker or a near-fluent non-native speaker (hard to tell due to some affectations). Road signs are a "special interest" for some people, and topics like that can lead to convergent behavior from unrelated users. As to Bdedbd vis-à-vis Milk point, it's more likely than not based on the timing, but that's not enough to block on without CU support. @Fredddie: Closing this, but if more evidence emerges with Bdedbd, feel free to refile (under Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Milk point) and ping me. Thanks. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 01:22, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I initially raised the issue of the Fry1979 account on the comment page of inappropriate usernames, but with two accounts with nearly identical usernames to my own, it was suggested I bring the issue here. For the last decade I have been battling the Jermboy27 sockmaster. Many, if not all of their socks, have dealt with the subject matter I have chosen to make my field of expertise on Wikimedia (traffic signs). Both accounts have only 5 edits between them, but they have all been in regards to that subject. Fry1989 eh? 16:35, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ostensibly new user who has taken in interest in Jermboy27, repeatedly "correcting" location fields in the infobox, and posting on Philipnelson99's and on Elcobbola's user talk pages along these lines.

Could be an impersonator, and I'm requesting CU to establish whether or not this sock is technically related to other Jermboy socks. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 17:28, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This may be moot as the account was CUblocked after this report was posted here. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 17:40, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And it might be reasonable this to be moved to the relevant sockmaster. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 17:44, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Elcobbola: When I said "could" it was because I cannot rule out the possibility of it occurring. The initial block was as a probable sock of Join Instagram at Under 13, which on EnWiki has a different master, and I can't look at CU data myself so I'll leave it to the CUs (like you) to figure out a master. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 17:53, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is an utterly bizarre rationale ("Could be an impersonator"). I am a Commons CU, and this is confirmed--data are here. Confirmed on Commons; recreation of Draft:Road signs in Peru (see Wikilover1999567890), same attempted WP:PROXYING at Wikipedia:Graphics Lab/Illustration workshop (compare to Seethesignsaroundyou [53], Gohkenytp998 [54], etc.), compare username name to known Commons socks (Yeavyinstincts and Toadieinstincts v c:User:Yeavyinstincts2, etc.) Эlcobbola talk 16:12, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Bbb23: who has helped block previous socks. Эlcobbola talk 19:20, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Courcelles:: FWIW, Jermboy27 nearly always uses a proxy, and it is not uncommon to see other bad-actors in the ranges (they are, after all, there for the same reason.) If you're not familiar with it, bullseye.toolforge.org is an excellent tool for IP information, including whether it's a known proxy. Эlcobbola talk 21:51, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Confirmed but you knew that already. The only previously unblocked/locked account I see is NGC 5139 GDPR 53 (talk+ · contribs · deleted contribs · tag · block user · block log · CheckUser). Courcelles (talk) 19:25, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Courcelles: I'm confused. Isn't NGC 5139 GDPR 53 a sock of another master?--Bbb23 (talk) 20:01, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Bbb23, They match perfectly to accounts tagged as this master as well as one tagged to Join Instagram at Under 13 (talk+ · contribs · deleted contribs · tag · block user · block log · CheckUser) Courcelles (talk) 20:05, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There also the previously blocked, but untagged 74-year-old juvenile criminal (talk+ · contribs · deleted contribs · tag · block user · block log · CheckUser) that should likely be included in the lock request. Courcelles (talk) 20:08, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @Courcelles: See Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of CD -32 9396SSE + the history of HD 224693 going back years. These are all Jermboy??--Bbb23 (talk) 20:11, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Bbb23, Let’s see if I can explain. Goadinaloafofbread matches self admitted Jermboy sock Creamatedinstants and the tagged RonaldMcmanners. They also directly match the NGC sock I named above, the 74 year old criminal account, 15-year-old girl from Norway and a bunch of other tagged Jermboy socks. Now, working the NGC sock alone, it matches SCR 1845-6357. SCR is tagged on its talk page as User:Join Instagram at Under 13, which has its own Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Join Instagram at Under 13 as well as being tagged itself as a sock of CD -32 9396SSE. It’s a mess, but technically, they’re the same in current socks. Courcelles (talk) 20:24, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Courcelles: Sorry to be so insistent, but is there any behavioral connection between the NGC socks and Jermboy? I've looked back at the archives and can't find anything. Plus, there have been a ton of checks in this case - why did you make the connection now? Is it possible that other CUs have also noticed it but ruled it out behaviorally? Sorry again, but I can't wrap my head around it. I of course can't see the technical details, so I don't know whether the exact same IPs are being used or ranges of the same IPs or just geolocations; nor can I see how distinctive the UAs are.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:33, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Bbb23 I’m an idiot. They overlap on the exact same IP and very close/version progressive UAs… but more digging indicates that IP is a likely proxy. So you can just ignore everything I said and assume they are indeed two separate sockpuppeteers. Courcelles (talk) 20:39, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Courcelles: Doesn't sound like you're an idiot if you had to dig to figure out the IP was a proxy. Obvious proxies are easy, but I've always found it hard to identify less obvious ones. Anyway, I've always been told (sometimes not to my liking) that behavior is the touchstone of confirming accounts and that technical data cannot trump behavior. In some instances, that's false (in my view), but not in this one (at least for me). Thanks for digging.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:52, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • It's been fun, but I think we're done here now. Closing. Bbb23 (talk) 23:33, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Targeted a number of road signs articles, notably adding the nolines attribute to galleries while also having made meaningful contributions. I've reverted a number of the changes, but not all. These may or may not be the same user, I have included them due to extremely similar behaviour. For the 4th user I had assumed good faith, explaining so on their talk page.

This account has been around for a decade but has gone inactive for different periods of time which might be why it never popped up in earlier checkuser checks. I was reviewing some expiring drafts, CSD G13s, for some roadsign articles that were created by IP editors all geolocating to the same European country. Then I saw that this account had participated in editing a few (like Draft:Road signs in Slovenia and when I went to check through Contributions, they seem virtually identical to the IP editors. I know you won't link IPs to registered accounts and beside, these IPs aren't active but I thought I'd ask about WWBM in case they are a previusly unidentified sockpuppet. Liz Read! Talk! 21:14, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No, I have no more specific information than the fact that all of these editors have a very specific interest in creating articles about road signs all over the world and documenting them in table form. They shared that interest with the sockmaster here, that's all I was going on. Sorry to file this without a dozen diffs to support my suspicions. Liz Read! Talk! 03:09, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am very familiar with Jermboy, as he has probably been averaging 3-5 socks per week on the Commons for years. 1) WWBM is not Jermboy. 2) Jermboy infrequently edits with his "true" IPs--an ipv6 that is currently range blocked (/32) on en.wiki and an ipv4 that is not currently blocked--but uses VPNs the vast, vast majority of the time. None of the listed IPs are the "true" IPs, nor have they been used by Jermboy on the Commons. I don't see merit to this request as presented. Jermboy's most recent sock attached to en.wiki is Archyofsideburns (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · spi block · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki), if CUs are so inclined. • @DatGuy: I don't want to usurp your authority, but if it were up to me, I'd block Archyofsideburns, with or without a CU (assuming one hasn't already been done on en.wiki), and close with no other action.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:21, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
