Overlinking and MOS:NOPIPE violations (recent example, another recent example), edited an article Scottish independence edited by known sock 92.15.25.49 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). The IPs respectively geolocate to Portsmouth and Woking. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 19:26, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Repeated WP:OVERLINK and WP:NOTBROKEN/WP:NOPIPE violation edits to remove wikilinks to redirect for Georgina Baillie (correct as per WP:1E) on pages Andrew Sachs, Johnathan Ross,The Russell Brand Show (radio show) and BBC controversies. Refuses to discuss unlinking and has one one occasion deleted warnings from talk page.
Recognised as the same sockpuppet by DuncanHill upon reporting of issue to WP:ANI. His previous report is at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive1031. Sockmaster's puppets apparently have long history of similar unlinking on other pages.Romomusicfan (talk) 12:57, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Again with the repeated violations of WP:NOTBROKEN, similar articles (British politics and tv), this one geolocates to Fareham, close to Portsmouth. DuncanHill (talk) 23:43, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Look, the deletion of the SPI case was previously given as a reason to report at AIV, now the SPI case is being used by Spencer as an excuse not to act on the AIV report. Is there any point reporting LTA by IPs? Last SPI I raised took days. DuncanHill (talk) 23:49, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Have added the four pages where Georgina Baillie was being unlinked to my watchlist and will routinely revert any unlinking by any IP whose behaviour is consistent with this pack of socks. If revert is by an account holder or IP is willing to give valid reasons in eg Edit Summary, will discuss reasonably with party concerned and not revert without consensus. 08:37, 10 September 2021 (UTC)
@RoySmith: I doubt very much that RFPP would look kindly on semi-ing quite so many pages indefinitely. I also doubt that, given the intermittent nature, protection would be given, certainly that is the impression I have got from some of my other reports to RFPP. We don't seem to have any process to deal with this form of LTA. It routinely gets ignored at AIV, and ANI gets little interest. Wherever it is raised the response is "go somewhere else". DuncanHill (talk) 17:47, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that this is not a good situation. But, I'm not sure what you expect SPI to do. These IPs look to be dynamic. Long-term blocks of multiple wide IP ranges isn't practical. Have you tried RFPP, or are you just speculating that they won't do anything? My personal opinion is that the only way to deal with this kind of problem is to turn off IP editing completely, but that requires a policy decision which is well outside the scope of SPI. You might want to join the conversation at WP:VPW#Announcement regarding IP editing and voice your opinion there. -- RoySmith (talk) 17:58, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't tried going to RFPP with the dozens of pages this case targets. It's depressing enough with one or two, which is why I rarely go there at all now. As at ANI it too often gets left until it can be cleared as "stale". I'm trying not to get involved with too much policy/behaviour debate on WPi at the moment, a recent case (which in part came to relate tangentially to this LTA) made me realise I had been far more damaged by over a decade of abuse that was ignored (or even encouraged) by admins and Arbs than I had realised, and for other reasons related to my wellbeing I won't touch Meta with a bargepole. I am exhausted. I'll warn, I'll report, when I see vandalism or LTA, but please don't ask me to do more. DuncanHill (talk) 18:09, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • IP has been blocked, so closing. DuncanHill regarding your your comment here, SPI is chronically backed up, and if your SPI was handled in "days", that's well ahead of the average. Some SPIs sit for weeks until somebody gets to them. There's just too many reports and not enough people working on them. You might consider volunteering to help out at SPI; we certainly can use more people. And, as noted in 27 July 2021, WP:RFPP will almost always get faster response. It's just the nature of how the two processes work. -- RoySmith (talk) 17:35, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

This is the account behind a long history of WP:NOTBROKEN and WP:OVERLINK abuse. Started tonight after a very long absence shortly after the first IP listed above was blocked. Noticeable also for often changing "after" to "following". See previous SPI Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/82.22.42.5, Wikipedia_talk:Sockpuppet_investigations/SPI/Clerks#Long-term_IP-only_SPIs, and User:DuncanHill/LTA#Notbroken/Overlink_LTA for further background, I have only listed above the last three IPs I have identified with this pattern of edits. Almost the exact same edits as Harry the house and the blocked IP 85.255.232.230. For example, overlinking of political offices, altering "after" to "following" and targeting the same articles such as Sidney Sloane, Janice Atkinson, Attlee ministry and so on. All today's edits have been reverted as vandalism. No Great Shaker (talk) 13:27, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly the same targets (e.g., Attlee ministry, Janice Atkinson‎, Sidney Sloane) ‎as in previous incidents with similar cases of overlinking, unnecessary word changes, etc. For example, 1, 2 & 3 are all exactly the same edit. We probably need to protect some if not all the target articles. Have requested checkuser in case of other accounts, sleepers, etc. No Great Shaker (talk) 14:39, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
