As far as I know there's not a way for a template to automatically update based on whether a user is currently using desktop or mobile. You'd have to edit it each time to switch it. Galendalia, sure. An example is Template:Village pump page header, which uses {{Start tab}} and {{End tab}} for the top half of its content. I adapted its code to WikiProject's pages:

Hello again. I will be making numerous requests this weekend as I am reviving a project and as I find templates, I may ask questions or for changes, so please bear with me. On [[Template:Spoken_article_requested]] when it posts to the page that tells us what articles are being requested at [[Category:Spoken_Wikipedia_requests]] I would like it to automatically add the page rating (i.e. stub, GA, fa, draft, etc.) Is this possible? We have certain articles we will not do audio for (which will typically be shorts, stub, drafts, breaking news, etc.). Galendalia, if I remember correctly, detecting the categories of a page in a template is possible, but not desirable. Hello Team,

I am working with an editor at the TeaHouse regarding this specific template. While working with them, I noticed there is no documentation on this template. What they are trying to do is add EDS as the party-coulour and it does not work, but it works in a table. Is there a way this can be corrected? This is the link to the TeaHouse conversation. @Galendalia and Newystats: Template:Infobox French constituency passes its parameter |party-colour= into Template:French politics/party colours, which is just a big list of "meta/color" templates chosen by the party's abbreviation. I've figured it out by looking at template's code: see wikitext {{French politics/party colours|{{{party-colour|}}}}} at line 11 of the template.

I have added Template:Ecology Democracy Solidarity/meta/color to this list with abbreviation EDS (note, that template is case-insensitive): Special:Diff/958402154. And here's the fix in the article: Special:Diff/958311523/958402997. —⁠andrybak (talk) 16:14, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

Since we already have taxa in correct order with Template:Automatic taxobox, can we use this info to create something like {{Automatic cladogram}}? The idea is you put two parameters, name and depth and it would automatically draw a cladogram for you. As I don't believe that there is a place to reuqest a bracket and I'm not aquainted with anyone that makes any I thought I would ask here. I need a bracket template that looks like the ones on this page: https://cod-esports.gamepedia.com/Call_of_Duty_League/2020_Season/Week_5

This bracket template is for the article Call of Duty League where I was able to use an already created template for the semi-finals and finals results as the competition uses a pretty bog standard 4 team single elimination bracket. However the group stage use a different format and it would be really good for the group results within the article to match the finals results. If someone could take a look and get back to me on if it's possible to make a bracket look like the one I've linked that would be greatly appreciated! Suppose that an article uses footnote-style referencing, so that references appear as bracketed numbers in superscript, like this.^[1] This is achieved e.g. using the following markup: <ref name="Doe 2020">{{cite journal |last1=Doe |first1=J. |date=2020 |title=An important article. |journal=J. Big Results |volume=21 |pages=234–235 }}</ref>. (It can also be achieved using the refn template.)

It would be nice if there were a template that would enable an editor to refer to this reference directly, e.g. like this:

As explained in Ref. 1, …

But, apart from not being superscripted and not being enclosed in brackets, this ‘1’ in ‘Ref. 1’ should have the same properties as the superscripted reference. In particular, it should have the following three properties:

• It should be generated automatically, from the supplied reference name in the wiki markup (i.e. the engine should know how to convert the name "Doe 2020" to the appropriate number);
• It should link to the correct entry in the list of citations.
• It should show the reference when the mouse pointer hovers over it (the same tooltip behavior as the superscripted reference).

It would additionally be nice if there were an option to retain the brackets, so that the citation looks like this: As explained in Ref. [1], …

I realize that, in a great majority of cases, one just summarizes what the source says and provides a superscripted reference without needing to directly refer to that reference; and I realize that on the rare occasions when sources do have to be discussed, the "workaround" mentioned above is the preferred method. Indeed, scholarly literature has these same two guidelines. And yet, scholarly literature does allow for usage such as 'Ref. 1', because it is recognized that there do exist some rare occasions when the usual, preferred way of talking about sources results in awkward constructions.

Yesterday I was going through Edit requests and making the requests or letting the requestors know why they couldn't be completed (i.e. needs sources, clarification, etc.) I know one of them posted something on a user's talk page similar to the Tea House talkback letting them know their request had been changed. I cannot find it now. Is this something in place or can we maybe get something in place like this to inform the requestor their request has been updated and direct them back to the request on the article's talk page? The Requested moves policy states that "The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus." However, there are no templates with which to tag the relevant page to alert editors of the discussion who may not read the Talk page or have it on their Watchlist. I therefore request a "move to" template analogous to the merge to template used for proposed merge discussions which would function the same way. In this way, use of the template would offer a route for a proposed page move intermediate between simply being bold and doing it without first ensuring consensus, which risks a messy move war, and a requested move, which would unnecessarily involve many editors and administrators when the proposer would prefer to complete the move themselves but wish to check for consensus first. Howdy. It would be great if {{old AfD list}} was given the ability to take multiple titles, to cope with cases where there isn't a shared prefix. For example:

At present to index them all in one place requires either using the template twice, or subst'ing it and manually editing the output. Hello, according to Template:Inflation, "for inflating capital expenses, government expenses, or the personal wealth and expenditure of the rich, the US-GDP or UK-GDP indexes should be used". This looks fairly simple but my script skills here are minimal. This template requires an optional {{{2}}}}. The second argument is not always given, it is optional. The second argument was recently added to the canonical Template:Wikipedia rank by size and this template variation would detect and pass through. -- GreenC 14:51, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

I think this request may be an easy one... Right now the link for corresponding article has a switch so that it calls Wikidata information where the article is not specified. I would like the same behavior to happen for the creation of the machine translation link at translate.google.com. Can someone help with this? Basically it is just using the same approach from the "corresponding article" link elsewhere in the template, but it has been so long since I worked with parser code that I don't want to mess it up. To output text on to wikipedia as if it were in the source editor, we have the templates {{temp}}, {{elc}} and {{c}}. However, we do not have a template for displaying text between <! -- and -- > tags without spacing it out, as I just did. The AsC (As Comment) template should display text between those tags, without spacing. If this is impossible or if this already exists, then many apologies for wasting your time.

Per WP:SALORDER, content is generally in chronological order with the first/oldest item at the top and last/newest item at the bottom. While I generally fix these when encountered, sometimes the content is in a table with spans and is non-trivial to quickly resolve. Usage examples include List of Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the NFL Draft#Selections and an article about an author with a Bibliography section listing all of their authored content ala Robert H. Abel#Works.

It's a template to thank IP address users. I know this template already exists but I'm suggesting a reworded version of it. Because all the templates that exist to thank IP users say thanks for help cleaning up vandalism. I would like to request the creation of a template for Swedish Royal Weddings. The only two subcategories for European Royal Weddings are that of British Royal Weddings and Swedish Royal Weddings. I'd like help creating Template:AfroCROWD. I tried drafting one based on Template:WIR, but am struggling with the complexity.

Here's my draft: User:Paul2520/sandbox2.

Like with Women in Red, this should allow us to track which event/date the article was created, or just be a catch-all for articles created as part of the WP:AfroCROWD project (if no date/event is provided). However, Women in Red seems to have a ton of specific/sub templates that I don't think AfroCROWD needs (at this time).

Thanks, Aseleste. Biggest problem has been not understanding all the code behind the Women in Red template.

The way I see it: (1) exist as a banner to illustrate that the article was started through the AfroCROWD project / at an AfroCROWD event.

(2) add the article to a category, perhaps the equivalent of Category:WikiProject Women in Red articles.

(3) ties in with (2), add the article to a sub-category rather than a category, if year parameter is given.

(4) maybe just link to the page of a specific event, if one is listed.

Paul2520, from these four points only, I think the Template:WIR basically matches what you need. The one important difference I have noticed is that all event pages for WP:WIR are stored under Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup, while WP:AfroCROWD seems to store them in several places. Currently, the width is static, so no matter how much text is inside the template, it takes up the same amount of space on the page. I think it would be better if the width was dynamic, but didn't go above the width it's currently always at. I tried "width:auto" "max-width:50%", but apparently max-width overrides width, so that didn't work. I tried "max-width:50%" by itself, but that didn't work either because it doesn't become as wide as the static template is right now with lots of text. If you look through the templates in Category:Family templates, you will see that all of them are NavBoxes. I think many of these templates would work better as family trees instead of NavBoxes, as their contents are either too small or too large to fit in a navbox.

Some templates I think would work better as family trees would be Template:Wayans family, Template:Chaplin family, Template:Kapoor family, Template:Ray family, Template:Bach family, Template:Custis family, Template:Bose family and Template:Barbour family.

So there is a family tree template for the Arnold family (Arnold family tree) and a template for the Huxley family. However, the Huxley family tree template is called the Huxley-Arnold family tree. Only half of it is dedicated to the Huxley family while the other half covers the Arnold family (Julia Arnold and Leonard Huxley were married).

Not only is there a more precise version of the Arnold family tree available on its own template, but there's a more precise version of the Huxley family tree available on the page for the Huxley family. So I wonder if the Huxley-Arnold tree should be deleted and replaced by the larger Huxley tree.

As per best RCV reporting practices, we should include data from all rounds when including RCV results, and especially be careful not to overemphasize the importance of the first round votes.

How shall we update this template to include results from all rounds? As an example, I find this template easy to use, though it has the issue of being far too wide when there are many rounds. It is auto-generated from RCVis. Whatever changes we propose here, I can ensure RCVis updates its wikipedia table-exporting code to follow the Wikipedia template we come up with.

Do you notice that there's an individual citation template for each social media platform? Well, I believe that YouTube (which is a video-sharing website, not a social media platform) should have its own citation template due to a large amount of controversy surrounding what should be where when videos on the website are cited (of course, they must be cited with primary care, as they are considered primary sources). Shaji issac, hmm, on second thought, I'm not sure navboxes are needed for these. A bureaucrat is just somebody who works for the government, right? I don't know if a "current and former employees of X" navbox would be that useful to our readers. Don't forget, we have categories for these folks that our readers can use to dig deeper, such as Category:Indian Administrative Service officers, Category:Indian civil servants, Category:Indian Administrative Service officers from Kerala, Category:Civil Servants from Kerala, etc.

Hello, following on from a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 146#Club seasons articles and MoS, a couple of editors thought it would be a good idea to create a template similar to Template:Football box collapsible that would allow editors who are less familiar with editing tables to create and update lists of football match results on club season and national team results articles such as the one at Scotland national football team results (2000–2019)#Results. If similar parameters to those used by the footballbox templates were used then it would also allow for editors to update articles according to consensus and policies such as MOS:LIST and WP:ACCESS by swaping the footballbox style for a table in the style in the Scotland article I've mentioned. I imagine it would look something like this:

Hello, we already have Template:Wide image to add a scrollbar for wide images on smaller viewports.
As an analogue I'd like to suggest a "Template: Wide table". I have encountered such (Wiki-)tables in several articles already where they break the article's display on all but wide-screens by forcing the right margin further out. This table brought me here. (This is still a rather harmless sample; I've seen much wider tables.)

I was wondering if an image map should be created for table setting. Not everyone can distinguish between multiple types of fork, and there are too many utensils for a written description to be read comfortably (see full course dinner).

There is a template called Cite EU law and several others. However the EU Law is also very dependant on Judgements made by the Court. these are cited differently within eurolex. If possible it would make it much easier to cite since now we are left with linking the source with an external URL as shown in article Commission v Italy (1972)

I was recently editing some articles about populated places in Elazığ Province, and I noticed that it was a very small province in proportion to a big country, meaning that different locations could be somewhat far apart but still look close to each other on the map. There is already a nice image on this province [Wikimedia Commons]. In addition this template also exists in [Wikipedia]. There are also modules for it on [Wikipedia] and the [one]. I'd like to know if we could get one here. I've tried experimenting on how to use Lua but I don't have the time at the moment.

Hello. I'm working mainly on the French version of WP and more occasionaly on the English version, but I don't find on this one the equivalent of the French template Modèle:Justifier which is used to justify text so that both edges of each line are aligned with both margins. Could something be done, since this is very practical in some cases?

The French Gauche (Left), Centrer (Center) and Droite (Right) templates all have their English counterparts as you can see in the left margin of each French document, except Justifier (Justify). Could somebody translate the latter into Template:Justify ?

Hello, I wasn't sure if this was the proper place to request this kind of stuff but the community portal says "specialized script that doesn't exist yet", and I think it falls under that line. I say that because it doesn't do anything "beneficial" to make something cool for my user talk page. I had a couple of ideas for funny "notices" to put at the top of my talk page, but putting too many would make things cluttered. Instead, I came up with the idea for a way to make it so that a template cycles through a large selection of notices and other things; it chooses one from a list (I'm using my sandbox) of these notices and puts uses it on the talk page. Whenever the page is refreshed or purged, a new one from that list is put there (in the same spot). Is that possible? I originally asked this at User scripts requests and was redirected here. The former template which is now a redirect Template:Tfdend took the first unnamed parameter as the section heading. When it passes this to {{Old TfD}}, it is also used as the nominated page name, e.g. [1], resulting in incorrect red links.

I suggest that {{Tfdend}} should be edited to pass parameter "1" with the parameter name "discuss". See manual fix to the example given above.

In YouTube related infoboxes there are places for the subscribers and total views for the channel. This works fine for when the article has a single channel related to it - you just put the number for both in their respective places. The issues arises when the article has multiple channels associated with it. What usually ends up happening is someone goes to an article where this is already the case and copies some wikimarkup similar to below, which puts all of the channels in a bulleted list and makes a note at the bottom of the page for individual channel counts.

This happens on multiple articles all over the place and it doesn't appear as though there is a template, or any standard for it. It also makes it very hard for inexperienced editors to update the counts. It's hard to see what needs to be changed, with the sum template taking decimals, and there being separate sections for for the main and the other channels, etc. I feel as though it would beneficial to create a template that would automatically format everything like above, but only taking a subscriber amount as well as a channel name for each entry. For example:

This is less of a template "request" and more of a request for critique of sorts. I can make this template myself, but I was looking for some thoughts from others. Does this sound like a good idea? Not going to comment on whether it's a good idea because that is fundamentally a question about the class of articles, rather than the template itself. If the template will get used for enough article content or by enough editors that it's worth it to you to make it, then do it. One note on the implementation is that I'd add an additional parameter like updated= such that if it is included, the breakdown in the notes would read "Subscribers as of January 15, 2022, broken down by channel:". This parameter would also allow for a possible maintenance category at some time, and the addition of a site= parameter would actually facilitate a bot task for updating those subscriber numbers as well - there's nothing inherent in this template that would necessarily limit it to YouTube statistics after all. @Vanisaac: Hey, thanks for the response. As far as the updated parameter goes, this is already included in {{Infobox YouTube personality}}. Usually, when people are updating the subs and views, they just update the parameter there to signify that it was changed then. And for the site parameter, this is an entirely different issue on it's own. YouTube subs and views have seemed like something that could be updated by a bot for a very long time, and no one has ever implemented it. I was going to make a request for this to become a task at whatever page I would need to do that in the future so that people wouldn't have to manually update it on all of the YouTube pages. This is also an issue with Twitch channels, tiktok infoboxes, and many other templates that parameters related to follower counts, views, etc. that could be done by a bot instead. I think it would still be a good idea to add a parameter for the channel id for all of the channels so that if this ever does become an automated task it would be future proofed. @Levi OP: The problem is that a template like this isn't limited to the specific infobox. The update date needs to be within this template so that the logic for the tracking categories can work. How it gets implemented within the infobox is another question, and those values might be automatically passed to this template. But you still want them within the template. This entry for Stephen Sondheim should direct to www.iobdb.com/CreditableEntity/2008. Instead it leads to lortel.org/Archives/CreditableEntity/2008. Previously the lortel.org entries redirected to iobdb.com. This seems to be not the case anymore. The problem also applies to the Template:Iobdb title and Template:Iobdb venue. I have seen a lot of people spending time requesting, discussing, sourcing, uploading, etc. images of currency and would like to request a template for currency related talk pages to make sure sure that people are aware of the copyright issues. The template would be added to the talk pages of banknote and currency pages that looks similar to the {{Image requested}} template but without the upload button. It would then take the copyright information for the country from Commons:Currency and display it on the talk page.

For example {{copyright currency|in=Australia}} would be added to Talk:Banknotes_of_the_Australian_dollar and then display the Commons message from {{COM:CUR Australia}} with a note that this is the Wikimedia Commons information.

I am not sure if there should be some note about the possibility of images that may be acceptable for Wikipedia but not for Wikimedia Commons, that would be something for someone with a better understanding of the issues involved to decide. Gusfriend (talk) 00:18, 20 February 2022 (UTC)

Trying to recode Template:Infobox NFL player so that in cases in which the player's number and team header is not being displayed, the position information gets moved as the first line under "Career information". This is based on the request here. The tricky part here is that, recently, the infobox was hardcoded to prevent "Free agent" from appearing as the player's current team even if populated for |current_team= (diff). Here is an example of an infobox with the number and team header being shown, followed by the position. Here is an example of an infobox without the number and team header being shown, but the position is hanging without an header. Here is an example of an infobox without the team, but with the number and position. You can view all of my attempts to recode at the sandbox history and the relevant testcases section is at Template:Infobox NFL biography/testcases#Current team parameter changes March 2022. This test seemed like my best attempt to get this to work, but did not, so it could easily be the case of my missing something in that one.

Requesting a template for art exhibitions -- the fields for Template:Infobox_event and Template:Infobox_recurring_event don't accurately capture the breadth of needs for art exhibition pages. Art exhibitions feel like they have a distinct need for a template, as they can be a one-off event, a touring event, a recurring event, or a recurring and touring event. Fields should include venues, dates, locations, etc. for the original and touring iterations as well as date fields to allow for recurring events. On all the Category:Lists of albums by release date since List of 2020 albums, there are boxes on top of each table (divided by month) to enable jumping between sections easily. We've been adding those manually to each table as a new one is made, but it seems like there should be an easier, more automated way to accomplish this task, and perhaps it would also be useful for other lists/articles around the site (e.g. Category:Lists of films by country by year). Created a simple Template:Monthbar to handle this and applied it to List of 2020 albums as an example. Note that this leaves the currently displayed month as a link rather than converting it to text. I thought this might be acceptable given that the selected month name is still listed on the line immediately above. To display the selected month as a non-link would require adding a 'month' parameter to the template and then including that month name in each template call. --CBD 19:44, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

Actually, now that I'm looking at it again, I realise it would help if it were more dynamic. For example, List of 2022 albums currently does not have sections for October or November (no albums have been announced yet with release dates in those months) but it does have Unscheduled and TBA for albums announced for this year but without a specific date yet. If there were a way to detect section subheadings specifically and autogenerate links based on them that would be perfect, or at least some way to manually customise them for these instances.
