Minor edits[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. —J. M. (talk) 10:59, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikitable fixer[edit]

Thanks for fixing wikitables (example). Instead of putting a URL in the edit summary, a better approach would be to make a user subpage such as User:Liruqi/wikitable. The edit summary would be something like Fix en wikitable style syntax, [[User:Liruqi/wikitable]]. The user subpage would have a link to the github page and a brief explanation of what the script does. If any issues arise, they could be discussed on the talk of the subpage. Thanks for you suggestion, looks good. Liruqi (talk) 10:17, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Colouring entire tables[edit]

Please be aware that edits you did like this coloured the entire table. I'm sure you did not do that on purpose as you seem to be useing a script to do those edits, but as this happend at lease four time on articles on my watchlist, I think you should check your script to avoid that in the future. Gial Ackbar (talk) 14:48, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I have manually removed entire table background color. Liruqi (talk) 14:52, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It happend again here. Please fix the script you are usng to take hose kind of table into account or check your work after every edit. Gial Ackbar (talk) 16:10, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the background manually. You can fix it by removing "background: #XXXXXX". Liruqi (talk) 16:16, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen how to fix it, but this is not a long term solution. Noone will go through all your edits. When that happens on a page that is not on the watchlist of any active user, the change will go unnoticed and the table will stay in this fully-coloured state. Therefore you either have to fix your script or check if something like this happens at every edit. Gial Ackbar (talk) 16:24, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Table errors[edit]

Please be careful when fixing tables. Many tables of words African languages got messed up, with the top rows shifted one more column to the right than it should be. Greenwhitedino (talk) 19:49, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, could you show me an example? Liruqi (talk) 03:27, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I dug through your contributions and found this example of the above; your script has erroneously removed a | character from the markup, completely changing its meaning.
I actually came here after seeing a different error in your script - the script has for some reason decided that "bgcolor" is a valid attribute, but "colspan" should be a CSS property. The actual problem on that page is that those tables have been accidentally separated off and should be a row of the table above.
That's the problem with syntax errors: by their nature, a computer often can't trivially tell what was intended, so you need to be very careful about applying automatic "fixes" without human review.
I know you had good intentions, but would strongly advise you to read the Wikipedia:Bot policy before running any similar scripts. There is also a Bots Noticeboard where you could discuss how best to put right the problems from your current script. - IMSoP (talk) 19:53, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For this case you mentioned, colspan should not appear in table attributes, and moved to CSS property by default. It was separated off from the table intentionally, but somehow created an empty table.
It's true that computer could not tell the intention of attributes with syntax errors, I will be more careful in future edits.
This is my first time editing wikipeidia with bots. I will learn more about related policies. Liruqi (talk) 05:41, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
