Speedy deletion declined: Lin Chen (playwright)

Hello Funnyfarmofdoom. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Lin Chen (playwright), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The person won a notable award, the Cultural Medallion, passing A7 . Please stop changing the wikipedia for ICU Dining hall.

Hello Funnyfarmofdoom,

This is about the -ICU Dining Hall- article. I am new at creating wikipedia articles, and I understand you have a job to do, but I am creating a wikipedia of one of my University's biggest assets. I've been asked to create one from the administration, and Im not particularly enthusiastic about this task, and having this article repeatedly changed is not helping. I can guarentee you that its not promotional, and it will be completed before jan 12th, which is my deadline. Please let it live

Declined speedy on Ralph Ketner

Hi Funnyfarmofdoom, I've declined your proposed speedy deletion of Ralph Ketner, since the article does make several claims of notability, specifically that Ketner founded the Food Town chain of stores and the various philanthropic activities later in life. Speedy deletion tags should only be applied to obviously incorrect articles. This one, while unreferenced and needing a rewrite, does not fall under CSD:A7. But it has been nominated for speedy deletion. Can you please tell me for what reason it has been nominated for deletion. Shankarlal Parikh

I've tagged your A1 speedy deletion tag of Shankarlal Parikh as hasty, since you tagged it the minute it was created. It's customary to allow editors at least 10 minutes from the time of creation before tagging it with A1 or A3, with at least an hour of time preferred. This gives them enough time to add any additional content, and doesn't scare them away with a warning that their article is about to be deleted.--Slon02 (talk) 05:22, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

First of all, did you even read the warning on my walk page that links to WP:WMD? i have it there for a reason. Second, I wasn't actually the one who deleted it, I just mark it for review from an administrator. The deleting administrator was User:Fastily. Finally, I can say that it was deleted under WP:G11, which means it was exclusively promotional in nature. I suggest you read WP:SPAM before creating another article. Anthony Cerreto

I don't think either you or Safiel are up to date with your Brazilian slang. The article asserts that he likes "pinto", which is a subtle way of calling him a pedophile, as "pinto" means "young man's (or, more commonly, young boy's) penis". Assuming the latter it's an attack page and needs to be tagged with G10 so it can be stripped more quickly. --NellieBly (talk) 02:33, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Elvis the Dog

Dear Funnyfarmofdoom,

My article entitled Elvis the Dog was recently declined due to reasons being given of 'an attempt to be humorous rather than factual'.

I would like to argue that everything mentioned in the article is all based on facts. The dog in question does resemble a sausage dog, is scared of noises and also used to be called Rufus but is now called Elvis. I can't see how my article can not be called factual unless you actually come to Darlington and see the dog for your own eyes? And surely you do not do this for every article that is written??

Yours sincerely,

Here is the note I sent Bryce: Hello Bryce,

You have concerns that I am attempting to advertise, but that is not my intention. Since I work with government agencies I am sharing some of the challenges that they are experiencing. BLP PROD nomination of Jessie Keane

Hi Funnyfarmofdoom! Thanks for helping to patrol new pages - it really makes a difference. I just saw your BLP PROD nomination of Jessie Keane, and I just wanted to say that I thought it was a bit too fast. It's good to wait at least 10-15 minutes after an article is created to tag it for deletion, as tagging things for deletion too early tends to scare/annoy new users. Also, it wasn't really eligible for BLP PROD as there were already external links in the article, one of which backed up her list of works (although I'm not sure whether it could have been called reliable or not). If you still want to nominate it for deletion, then it can always go to AfD. Also, I know this message has been a bit negative, but don't get me wrong - your help is very much appreciated. All the best — Mr. Stradivarius 01:30, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Actually, ignore the part about the external links - looking at it again I see they were only added to the article after you tagged it, with the exception of her official site (which probably doesn't qualify under the BLP PROD rules). Sorry for the confusion. — Mr. Stradivarius 01:48, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Jean-Michel Cazabat Article

Hello,

I am the Public Relations Director for the footwear designer, Jean-Michel Cazabat. I am trying to create his Wikipedia page and I have received a notice saying that there are copyright issues, citing various articles on Jean-Michel. I attempted to send a 'Talk' message via my page, but since I am new to this system, I wanted to try to connect with whomever may be available to help.

As I stated in my 'Talk' page, there is no copyright issue - the bio and information listed in the article I created for Jean-Michel Cazabat is our company's public bio on his life and brand. Any other articles that use the same content are simply copying our official bio verbatim.

I hope this clears any issues up with this. Please let me know.

Thank you, Liz Auerbach — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lauerbach (talk • contribs) 02:26, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Hello Lauerbach, the reason I tagged that article you wrote for deletion, was because it was copied from another website. The copied text appeared to be copyrighted. In any case, the article is not written in a neutral tone. As Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, all articles should be written in a neutral point of view, citing reliable third party sources , such as newspapers, magazines, or books from other organizations with a strong reputation for fact checking. If you would like to write a new draft of the article, please consider using the Article Wizard. Funnyfarmofdoom (talk to me) 02:40, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

You tagged my page while I was working on it...

Hello!

You tagged my page while I was working on it... Why would you do something like that. First of all page wasn't even finished so you couldn't tell it meets criteria for quick deletion. Therefore I would like to ask you to untag it so I can finish it. I would appreciate it. (Kachihawaii (talk) 03:18, 6 January 2012 (UTC))

It looked like spam to me, and the deleting admin thought it was spam too. Funnyfarmofdoom (talk to me) 22:09, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

I just tagged the article with an A10 speedy. It duplicates existing article Treasure Island (2012 TV miniseries). The well-intended AFD is unneccessary. Though a redirect from the new to old might be worth consideration, such does not require an AFD... simply some housekeeping. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 06:44, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

I never partook in this AfD. Did you leave this on the wrong page? Funnyfarmofdoom (talk to me) 22:11, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Oops. Did so because you had performed edits to the article. Sorry for any confusion. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 22:22, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC36 article

Hi,

please note that "[Editing ISO/IEC JTC1/SC36]"should read [ISO/IEC JTC1/SC36] but I haven't found how to change the page title. Nor the "contest deletion" button.

SC36, just like SC34 is a standards body, not a company. As for SC34, SC36 standards are sold from the ISO secretariat, but this is for non profit.

You state that "the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - ISO/IEC JTC1/SC34".

As indicated on the JTC1 Wikipedia page, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_JTC1)there is a lot of subcommittees, each with a distinct scope.

While SC34 deals with "Document description and processing languages", SC36 deals with Information technology for learning, education and training (ITLET). One of the key principle of JTC1 is that in the area of work of this SC, standards and technical reports will not duplicate work done by other ISO or IEC TCs, SCs, or WGs with respect to their component, specialty, or domain.

Sub committee structure and procedures are identical, which explains why the 2 pages look similar. But they deal with entirely different subject.

Standards issued by SC36 are of a very different nature of those of SC34. Mainly, they pertain to the formal educational domain. Issues related to accessibly, nomadic learning, participation information privacy are dealt with. In addition, standards done by other bodies, such as IMS Global or ADL, are promoted within SC36 as international standards. This is the case for SCORM and Common Cartridge, both referenced within Wikipedia. Work at the SC36 also builds up on standards described in Wikipedia, such as Dublin Core and Learning object metadata (LOM).

It is important that Wikipedia reflects the progression of standard work. Deleting article reflecting how old standards evolve and become internationally accepted, in my opinion, leave stakeholders with obsolete information.

Use of standards is crucial for interoperability and ensuring that schools and universities make sound decision and investment. This is a "credo" shared by all SC36 members (23 participants countries and 21 observing countries).

Hope this clarifies my intention to distinguish between both sub-comittees.

Regards,

Pierre — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pjguay (talk • contribs) 14:18, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your help with the vital work of patrolling new pages. I noticed that you are not marking some of the pages you've reviewed as patrolled. Please do remember to click the 'mark this page as patrolled' link at the bottom of the new page if you have performed the standard patrolling tasks. Where appropriate, doing so saves time and work by informing fellow patrollers of your review of the page, so that they do not duplicate efforts. Thanks again for volunteering your time at the new pages patrol project. I noticed you were using Twinkle to place templates. Twinkle occasionally has a bug where it won't mark pages as patrolled after templating a page, even if the interface says it did. Make sure after the page refreshes that the page was in fact marked as patrolled so that I or other new page patrollers aren't stepping on each other's toes. Thanks! elektrikSHOOS (talk) 05:56, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Norbar Torque Wiki

Hi, just wanted to respond on your recent review of the Norbar Torque Wikipedia page. Thank you for your comments.

Firstly the number one reason for deeming Norbar suitable for an encyclopaedic entry is that they are the World's Leading Torque Specialist as documented on the following websites amongst many others: http://nds.coi.gov.uk/content/detail.aspx?NewsAreaId=2&ReleaseID=422953&SubjectId=2 http://www.uktisoutheast.com/eventdisplay.aspx?id=1720 http://www.andrewsfasteners.co.uk/l_partners.php http://www.toolbank.com/b/NOR http://www.railtex.co.uk/exhibitor-list/norbar-torque-tools-ltd http://www.connectingindustry.com/story.asp?storycode=201262

I decided not to include this statement in the Wiki entry because I felt it contravened the Wikipedia regulations which state the article should not be written like an advert or deemed promotional in any way. However, I am more than happy to include the statement 'World's leading torque specialist' (with references) if that helps to quantify why Norbar should be entitled to a Wiki page. Your thoughts on this point would be very much appreciated.

In addition, Norbar torque has played a pivotal role in the development of torque tools in the UK firstly and now across the world for 75 years, I was attempting to get that message across in the History section, but perhaps I could make this a little clearer? Again if this would help when re-submitting please let me know.

Thirdly, Norbar's role was integral to the development of the Rolls Royce Merlin engine which as its Wiki page indicates was vital to the development of British Aviation in the 20th century. I was planning to edit the Merlin page to explain this and create a reference link back to the Norbar page to back this up. Is this ok?

Finally I thought it worth mentioning that Norbar's biggest competitors in the global torque market are:

All of which have their own Wikipedia pages, two of which are smaller companies than Norbar in terms of revenue, reach and staff and have far less detail or justification for having a Wiki in their wikipedia articles. If you can let me know what these manufacturers have included in their pages that Norbar's is currently missing, that would be much appreciated.

Many thanks, StephenfGraham (talk) 15:43, 24 January 2012 (UTC)StephenfGraham

Adding a statement to that effect (cited, of course) would actually be great to assert why the company is important.

A few other notes:

  • Your article has two references sections. Also, don't use Bare URLs when citing.
  • Wikipedia is not to be used as a source per WP:CIRCULAR.
  • Try to condense the history down a little. It takes up much of the article. Usually it would only be a single section.
  • Infoboxes are a GREAT way to jazz up an article. Try Template:infobox company.

Try to make these changes and then resubmit it. Funnyfarmofdoom (talk to me) 20:30, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Great, no problem at all. Thanks Funnyfarmofdoom I'll make these changes and resubmit. StephenfGraham (talk) 15:05, 25 January 2012 (UTC)StephenfGraham

Hi Nicholas, I've made some edits to Article for Creation/EarthCam, as you requested. As you'll see I've added references to outside sources to verify the claims being made in the article. I believe this is what you were suggesting when you requested more citations be added. Please let me know if this is what you're looking for, and if not, please provide more insight on how I can improve the article. Thank You! Joe Nizza (talk) 22:06, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Dota 2

Thanks for the tag on Dota 2; as the primary contributor to the page, I'm always interested in how it can be improved, of course. Could you tell me what you believe is out-of-date on the page? By my reckoning, it would be minimal, considering that the game is not released yet, so most information would be future tense. DarthBotto talk•cont 05:49, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Whoops, my mistake. I thought it was out based on their steam page. It even lists updates to it. Funnyfarmofdoom (talk to me) 05:59, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi

You left this message at my article

This suggestion doesn't sufficiently explain the importance or significance of the subject. See the speedy deletion criteria A7 and/or guidelines on music-related topics. Please provide more information on why this musical artist or musical recording is worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. Thank you.

Can I please know what is it that you require me to do in order to get this one passed?

This musical group is one of the pipe band in Malaysia (one of a few) and they represent the scene from Malaysia. It would be good to have a reference in the wiki for them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amirulm3 (talk • contribs) 11:39, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

New Page Triage engagement strategy released

Hey guys!

I'm dropping you a note because you filled out the New Page Patrol survey, and indicated you'd be interested in being contacted about follow-up work. This is to notify you that we've finally released both the initial documentation about the project and also the engagement strategy, which sets out how we plan to work with the community on this. Please give both a read, and leave any comments or suggestions you have on the talkpage, on my talkpage, or in my inbox - okeyes@wikimedia.org.

It's awesome to finally get to start work on this! :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 01:55, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Twitchtv logo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Twitchtv logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:08, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation newsletter

Hey Funnyfarmofdoom. I'm dropping you a note because you used to (or still do!) patrol new pages. This is just to let you know that we've deployed and developed Page Curation, which augments and supersedes Special:NewPages - there are a lot of interesting new features :). There's some help documentation here if you want to familiarise yourself with the system and start using it. If you find any bugs or have requests for new features, let us know here. Thanks! Lindowan Reservoir

I am fairly new to editing Wikipedia so your assistance would be appreciated. You removed the copyright attribution of the photo. Was this because it was wrong or unnecessary? I have put it back in the meantime as it is consistent with a number of articles I have already created. Should they all be removed? Braddy55 (talk) 16:07, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
