July 2008[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 13:15, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of AfterLogic WebMail Lite[edit]

The article AfterLogic WebMail Lite has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unremarkable product

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. RadioFan (talk) 12:29, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

August 2009[edit]

Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Because your account was used for promotion of a company, group, product or organization with a username that violated username policy as it promotes (or implies affiliation with) the aforementioned. This includes, but is not limited to: adding spam links, creating promotional pages (this includes user pages), adding advertisements to existing articles, and adding promotional/favorable content about something you are affiliated with.

Use of Wikipedia for promotion of people, products, companies or other groups (even non-commercial or charitable ones) is considered spam and is forbidden. Such actions will result in the blocking of the account involved. Please read Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for our policies about this.

In addition, user accounts are for individuals only, not for companies or groups or other collective editing. Your username should reflect this. Usernames that appear to be promotional (such as those that make reference to a company or product) violate our username policy and are typically blocked to enforce that policy.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this message box.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Tell us what new username you want to use. Please make sure that your new username does not violate our username policy and check that it has not already been taken (click here to search).
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If instead you believe that you have been blocked by mistake (i.e., you have not in fact been using Wikipedia for promotional purposes), please write {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this message box and replace the text "Your reason here" with the reason why. See also Wikipedia:Appealing a block for more information. – B.hoteptalk• 13:09, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Please advise. AfterLogic Corp is indeed WebMail Lite's originator. However, AfterLogic doesn't get any profit from it, 'cause it's published under GPL v2 license, being AfterLogic's open-source initiative. We've added some external news and community links to the article. Also, we've borrowed some vision on writing this article from similar articles within Wikipedia, such as RoundCube or Atmail pages. Could you please tell us if we wrote anything wrong and if there is any chance Webmail's article can be available on Wiki?

Decline reason:

The big box above explains why you were blocked and what you need to do to be unblocked. Please especially read Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations. Also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts for groups of people, only for individuals, and you are talking like this is an account for Afterlogic, not for a specific person. If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

{{unblock|Mangojuice, thank you for the explanation. I'd like to use new username andrey09. I understand the reason why I've been blocked and I'll not repeat the edits for which I was blocked. I intend to make the contributions about e-mail related software, webmail scripts, groupware software etc.}}

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Allowing username change to audrey09 (talk · contribs). Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username. Sorry about the rough start, welcome to Wikipedia.

issues with your article[edit]

There are two main issues with the article. First, you probably have a conflict of interest regarding this topic. So it's probably best for you to avoid writing the article yourself, especially after it's been deleted. Second, the inclusion standards on Wikipedia are based on the existence of independent sourcing for a topic. So what you should be looking for is material published independently that talks about the company or the product in detail. But it can't just be people blogging, it needs to be in reputable publications. So it's a pretty tough standard, and there's no guarantee the other articles on similar companies are actually appropriate. Mangojuicetalk 15:23, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia was rather more lax about these things in 2005 when @Mail was submitted; given that the article has been up 3 years and never proposed for deletion, there's no need to change things now. As I said, you have a conflict of interest. Go WP:RA with whatever source material you can find and make a request for someone else to create a new article. That's the best shot. It would not be good for you to write the article yourself. Mangojuicetalk 13:32, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, that's not appropriate, unless they are a seasoned Wikipedia editor who can be trusted to put Wikipedia's interests first. (I.E. you could ask me, but personally I'm not interested.) What we need here is someone to independently judge whether the company deserves an article. See WP:BESTCOI; it'll describe the kind of behavior you should stick to. Mangojuicetalk 16:17, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I told you already, go to WP:RA. No, I will not recommend anyone specific because all work here is done on a volunteer basis, and recommending someone would be too much like giving them an assignment. If no one writes your article, it's probably because it doesn't really belong on Wikipedia: the point of WP:BESTCOI directing you to WP:RA is that you go through the process there and accept the outcome, in order to avoid the appearance of trying to manipulate Wikipedia for selfish interests.
