DYK for Bruno Madrigal

On 19 February 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Bruno Madrigal, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Encanto character Bruno Madrigal was originally named Oscar, but his name was changed due to the number of real-life Oscar Madrigals in Colombia? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Bruno Madrigal. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Bruno Madrigal), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Your GA nomination of Calutron Girls

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Calutron Girls you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Question from Viragogirl (03:28, 28 February 2022)

Hi I don't understand why the changes we made were accepted and then altered back to previous version. The changes were minor and reflect recent news articles about Vanessa Alexander and the fact her series just came out on Netflix last Friday. We updated the sources to more recent ones in a few places and added Vikings:Valhalla as a notable work. We also removed works listed in the filmography that are of no significance as they are not listed in on the imdb database. Viragogirl (talk) 03:28, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Viragogirl, and thanks for the question! It looks to me like I dream of horses meant to revert just this edit where you removed works listed in the filmography, because she thought you didn't provide an adequate explanation for why you removed the items, and that she accidentally reverted your other edits as well. Your other edits look fine to me.
Really what this comes down to is a content dispute: should the less significant films Alexander was involved with remain on her article? They are supported by a reliable-looking source (the link doesn't work, but it can be found archived here), but I agree with you that they don't seem as significant, especially since I can't find any mention of films such as Granda (2010) anywhere besides that NZ On Screen website. This isn't my area of expertise, so I don't know what the general guideline for inclusion is here.
Right now, you've done the correct thing, which is to follow the Bold, revert, discuss cycle: you made a BOLD edit, someone else disagreed with it, you're discussing it. The next step would be to wait for I dream of horses to respond to your message on your talk page and continue the discussion with her; if you don't reach a conclusion, you could consider asking WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers for input, as they might have relevant advice on the content dispute.
You also observed correctly that you made a mistake in labeling your edits as minor. Take a look at Help:Minor edit- only edits such as spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of the content should be marked as minor, not significant adding or removing of content.
One last note- I'm slightly concerned by your use of "we" in your message above. Per WP:SHAREDACCOUNT, there should only be one person operating your account. This also raises another flag: are you editing for pay or with a conflict of interest? If so, you should disclose this and follow the relevant guidelines, which I just linked. (If this was just a mistake and you're editing simply because you're interested in Vikings: Valhalla, no worries; your edits themselves are generally fine.) Aerin17 (t • c) 05:23, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
Oops- after submitting this, I see that I dream of horses responded and recognized that she made a mistake in reverting your edits- so you're totally good. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions! Aerin17 (t • c) 05:25, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
Hi, User:Aerin17, and thanks for helping me. Do not be concerned about the use of we please unless it is not ok to know the writer. I am not working for money. I was just trying to improve the entry as most of the references to her work are from a site. No one else is operating on this account and the we is a friend who helped teach me to code the box. I will make sure I read what you sent above and correct this too. Apologies. I'm sure you explain these matters all the time and I will do my best to fix this up.Viragogirl (talk) 05:36, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
(Note- I fixed your comment indentation and the typo in my username) No worries! You're off to a good start with your edits, and I did volunteer to answer questions, after all :) I am still a bit concerned about COI, though: unless it is not ok to know the writer- are you implying that you know Vanessa Alexander? If so, that would certainly be considered a conflict of interest. It's okay to edit when you have a COI, but you have to be very careful to do so properly and follow the applicable guidelines. Aerin17 (t • c) 05:53, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
Oh, psst, Viragogirl, you should know that IMDB is not a reliable source for citations. See WP:IMDB. I'll let you work out the citations yourself because you seem to have it under control, but please know that the NY On Screen site is actually considered more reliable than IMDB. Aerin17 (t • c) 06:02, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi, User:Aerin17, and thanks again. Apologies you had to fix the typo - I probably still have it wrong as the reason I had someone helping me is that I am not very good with code! I am so sorry I did not follow the guidelines above and did not realise I needed to disclose that I know Vanessa. The changes are very boring and straightforward and disclose no personal information of hers. I corrected the imdb references where I could. Do I need to undo these changes and do the changes again after disclosing COI or can you look at them and decide if it is ok. I will make no more changes to her article without declaring COI now that I understand. Forgive me. For both not being aware and also my bad indentation and typos outside of my normal word program. Viragogirl (talk) 07:21, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

It'll take me a bit to go through your edits and check all the sources and such- I'll get back to you later today. For now, I'd recommend reading WP:Conflict of interest thoroughly, if you haven't already. It's okay that you didn't follow the guidelines if you didn't know! Just do your best now that you do :) Aerin17 (t • c) 15:24, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Calutron Girls

The article Calutron Girls you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Calutron Girls for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Caeciliusinhorto -- Caeciliusinhorto (talk) 18:01, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Just a quick note to say that I've listed the article as a GA under Wikipedia:Good articles/History#North American history as I didn't think that either of the subcategories under Wikipedia:Good articles/Natural sciences#Physics were really appropriate; if you think there's a better place for it feel free to reclassify. Question from Simonobtv (21:25, 2 March 2022)

I would like to edit the Wikipedia page about me. How do I do this please? --Simonobtv (talk) 21:25, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi Simonobtv, and welcome to Wikipedia! Please read WP:Autobiography. In summary, editing the article about yourself is strongly discouraged, because it is very hard to write neutrally about yourself. If there are changes you'd like to make, you can propose them on the talk page of the article using {{request edit}}. I see that you have already made edits to Simon O'Brien (presenter) (presumably you), and I'm going to undo those as they violate the autobiography policy and are not supported by sources. If you'd like to request that another editor make them for you, feel free to do so, but make sure to provide reliable sources. Aerin17 (t • c) 22:55, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

Question from Xhenis.behluli (14:03, 14 March 2022)

Hello, I changed the page of Universum College with information from the Universum College webpage so copyrights should not be a problem. Can you please help me return the page as it was on my last edit? --Xhenis.behluli (talk) 14:03, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Xhenis.behluli, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm afraid I cannot restore your edits, as they violate several Wikipedia policies. Namely, Wikipedia cannot contain copyrighted material (yes, including copyrighted info from the Universum College website), Wikipedia must be written in a neutral tone, and editors with a conflict of interest must follow specific conflict of interest guidelines. I urge you to please read those three pages I just linked, and I'm happy to answer more questions if you have them. Aerin17 (t • c) 16:01, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

Question from Vaishali Pharma Limited (11:08, 25 April 2022)

Hello, I am here to post my company profile on your esteemed website so people can learn about my company if they ever search here. --Vaishali Pharma Limited (talk) 11:08, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Vaishali Pharma Limited, and welcome to Wikipedia. I'm afraid that you're misunderstanding a few things about how Wikipedia works. For one thing, Wikipedia is not a place to promote your business. Entities may only have a Wikipedia article if they are notable, not because you want to post about them. If people want to learn about your company, they can visit your website. In any case, if you are looking to write an article about your company, you must be careful to follow Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy.
You should also be aware that your username violates Wikipedia's username policy. Namely, you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. In order to continue editing, you will need to change your username or create a new account.
Does this all make sense? If you understand, and you would still like to go through with writing a Wikipedia article about your company, I'll be happy to walk you through your next steps. Be aware, however, that this is a hard process, and it is likely that any promotional article you write will not be approved. Aerin17 (t • c) 16:44, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

Question from Oferzm (15:38, 30 April 2022)

Hi, I would like to create an articale for a singer, how can I do its? thanks --Oferzm (talk) 15:38, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Oferzm, and welcome to Wikipedia! I see you have already started an article at Draft:Maya Kuriel, and that this draft has been declined. Before you put any more work into this, you’ll want to check that the singer is notable enough to be included on Wikipedia. WP:NMUSIC should provide useful guidance. If she is notable according to those guidelines, you’ll need to find several reliable sources demonstrating this notability and supporting the statements in the article. Once you’ve found these sources, I can point you to resources about how to put them in the article, but first you must make sure these sources exist. If you can’t find any, it’s a good sign that she isn’t notable enough to have an article yet, and your energy will be better spent elsewhere. Aerin17 (t • c) 23:00, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Question from NifeAyomi23 (12:42, 1 May 2022)

How can I get a product to advertise as an affiliate marketing? --NifeAyomi23 (talk) 12:42, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

NifeAyomi23, I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, but I'm guessing the answer can be found in the fact that Wikipedia is not a place for promotion or advertising. Aerin17 (t • c) 14:11, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

Question from Elliemuntz (16:56, 9 May 2022)

how do i get a specific artists text to be changed --Elliemuntz (talk) 16:56, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

Question from Louziaa (19:31, 18 May 2022)

hello, how do I do research more effectively? --Louziaa (talk) 19:31, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Louziaa, that's a very broad question! There are a ton of resources on the internet about how to research effectively, and I don't think I could provide you any more useful help than any of those. Do you have a more specific question that I could help you with? Preferably related to Wikipedia :) Aerin17 (t • c) 20:28, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Question from Qenzore Inc (15:14, 7 June 2022)

I have used it heaps but best way to get into it? --Qenzore Inc (talk) 15:14, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

Qenzore Inc, I assume you mean getting into Wikipedia? There are lots of ways to go about it. For instance, your user homepage gives you some suggested edits to try out. You could also look into the Wikipedia Adventure or simply the tutorials at Help:Introduction. Ultimately, the best way to start editing Wikipedia is simply to start. If, in your day-to-day reading of Wikipedia, you spot a page with a citation needed tag or a typo, just be bold and fix it.
Does that all make sense? If you have questions, I'm happy to give more specific guidance. Aerin17 (t • c) 16:12, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

Question from Pawsitivelypowerful (03:16, 19 June 2022)

Hey so I submitted a page for approval and I can't find it anymore. Any idea where I would find that in my history? --Pawsitivelypowerful (talk) 03:16, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

Pawsitivelypowerful, I don’t see anything in your contributions. Do you remember what the page was called? Either you submitted it under another account, or it could have been deleted. Aerin17 (t • c) 04:03, 19 June 2022 (UTC)
Yeah I just realized it was deleted. I guess I have to work on finding secondary sources for it. Thanks. Pawsitivelypowerful (talk) 04:18, 19 June 2022 (UTC)
Guess I'm not sure where to find more secondary sources on an annual event... Pawsitivelypowerful (talk) 04:20, 19 June 2022 (UTC)
I'm not sure how to mark these as finished but I figured this out please ignore this one. Pawsitivelypowerful (talk) 04:51, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

Question from Pawsitivelypowerful (04:26, 19 June 2022)

How do I reorder references without removing and re-adding them? If there is a way? Like the numerical values within the article. I can't think of another way to reorder besides changing numbers. --Pawsitivelypowerful (talk) 04:26, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

ignore this one also. I have figured it out. The only thing I haven't resolved by now is if I can use an article in another language on an English article? I can fluently understand the article in the language its written in (spanish) but do I need to cite it a specific way? Pawsitivelypowerful (talk) 04:52, 19 June 2022 (UTC)
Hi, Pawsitivelypowerful, glad to hear you're figuring things out! It looks like you added the Spanish source totally right. The problem you're facing now is that your draft is written like an advertisement. This is tricky to fix, but you can work on making sure the article is written neutrally, avoids peacock terms, and doesn't look like something you'd read on their website. (FYI, it will still have to be approved by a reviewer to be published, and I am not a reviewer.) Aerin17 (t • c) 17:54, 19 June 2022 (UTC)
I updated the page a bit and used stuff only in those articles or sources. Does that look better? I'm surprised if that was an issue at all how come it was never mentioned the first time it was rejected? None of the wording changed that time (only citations) so that was odd... Pawsitivelypowerful (talk) 18:47, 19 June 2022 (UTC)
Yes, it is better, but I'll be honest- the article still reads a little like advertising copy, and, more problematically, many of your sources don't back up the statements in the article. It might be better to start over entirely. See if you can find secondary sources that are truly independent, not just reprinting press releases (e.g. this one reads like an article, while this and this read like press releases, and this doesn't say enough to be useful at all), and then write an article based directly on what those sources actually say. It's much harder to approach an article the way you did, by starting with what you know and then trying to find sources. It's also possible that this topic simply isn't notable enough to be included on Wikipedia right now. (Side note, to answer your other question- the reason the advertising issue might not have been mentioned the first time is that reviewers tend to point out the most obvious and pressing reason for rejecting, even if there are multiple problems with the draft.) Aerin17 (t • c) 23:24, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

A kitten for you!

thank you for all the help!

Question from AdrianKenya (08:09, 24 August 2022)

Hello, I would like to list my business on Wikipedia --AdrianKenya (talk) 08:09, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi AdrianKenya, please start by taking a look at Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy. In summary, it is highly discouraged to write about yourself or your business. If you still want to write about your business, you will need to follow the conflict of interest guidelines very carefully, and you will need to make sure that it qualifies as notable enough to be included on Wikipedia, or the article will be deleted. Aerin17 (t • c) 23:00, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

Election news: In our mid-year election, serving coordinators Baffle gab1978, Dhtwiki, Miniapolis, Reidgreg and Tenryuu were returned for another term, and were joined by new coordinator Zippybonzo. No lead coordinator was elected for this half-year. Jonesey95, a long-serving coordinator and lead, was elected as coordinator emeritus; we thank them for their service. Thank you to everyone who took part. Our next election of coordinators takes place throughout December. If you'd like to help out at the GOCE, please consider nominating yourself or other suitable editors (with their permission, of course!). It's your Guild, after all!

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Baffle gab1978, Dhtwiki, Miniapolis, Reidgreg, Tenryuu and Zippybonzo.

Question from Vansh19P (15:50, 26 October 2022)

Hi I wanna ask that can I make my own info page on Wikipedia or I just have to write a article on topics and events ? --Vansh19P (talk) 15:50, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi Vansh19P, I'm not sure what you mean by "info page," but it likely falls under what Wikipedia is not. Also, there are many things you can do on Wikipedia besides writing articles, such as copyediting or improving existing articles, and in fact writing new articles is one of the hardest things to do. For more information, you could take a look at Help:Your first article. Does that answer your question? Aerin17 (t • c) 15:56, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Question from Jaysurya Shrivastava (07:43, 13 November 2022)

How to earn money from Wikipedia? I need money for my college fee. --Jaysurya Shrivastava (talk) 07:43, 13 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi Jaysurya Shrivastava, I'm afraid you may be misunderstanding what Wikipedia is. This is a project made up of volunteers, and there's no easy way to earn money here. Aerin17 (t • c) 19:15, 13 November 2022 (UTC)

Question from Sarahadad20 on The Kite Runner (film) (08:44, 27 November 2022)

How lengthy can I expand the articles and is this really necessary to cite each sentence with reliable source? Thanks --Sarahadad20 (talk) 08:44, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi Sarahadad20, and welcome to Wikipedia! The best answer I could give to your first question is than an article should be long enough to contain all the useful information without being excessively detailed, which I know is not particularly helpful, but there's no one-size-fits-all answer. You can read more at Wikipedia:Article size.
As for your second question, it's generally best to have a citation for any statement that is not totally obvious. If you have two sentences that are supported by the same source, it's fine to put a citation after both sentences rather than one after each, but there should still be a citation backing up the information. You can read more at Wikipedia:Citing sources.
Let me know if you have any further questions! Aerin17 (t • c) 17:52, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for responding. It was very supportive and generous of you. I have one more question. How do we know which platforms are recognized credible and reliable under Wikipedia guidelines and which are recognized unreliable. I had been following the below link so far. Is it updated?
Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources
Thanks. Sarahadad20 (talk) 18:58, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
@Sarahadad20, yes, that list is updated, and it's a fantastic reference for whether sources are considered reliable or not. I've used it a lot myself. It's important to note that the list doesn't include every possible source, so sometimes you do have to use your own judgement, but it's a great starting place.
And no worries at all! Feel free to ask as many questions as you have :) Aerin17 (t • c) 23:36, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
