Jamie Moffett born James Moffett, Jr. (May 3, 1976) is an American independent motion picture director and producer. [1]
Biography[edit]
Raised Roman Catholic, Jamie attended elementary school at St. Charles Borromeo in Cinnaminson, NJ and attended high school at Holy Cross High School in Delran, NJ. It was here where he found a love of the arts and began acting. Jamie attended Eastern University where he first majored in Music Composition and later switched to Communications with a concentration in Theatre Sound Design. While attending Eastern, Jamie interned off-Broadway with Obie Award winner Darron West.
Career[edit]
Moffett co-founded The Simple Way, a non-profit organization focused on community development in Kensington, Philadelphia, [2] along with Shane Claiborne in January 1998. He lived in the original Simple Way house for six years, leaving in 2003 to work in motion picture -- the same year he was nominated for a Barrymore Award in Outstanding Theatre Sound Design. [3] Moffett founded Jamie Moffett Media Design & Production, Inc. [4] in 2004, an independent motion picture production company focusing on social justice issues. Through this company Moffett[5] has produced and directed such films as the Another World is Possible series, The Ordinary Radicals and more recently Return to El Salvador. In 2005 Moffett directed the music video "Sweetheart"[6]in Jamaica for the band Soulfége, led by activist Derrick Ashong.
Documentaries[edit]
In 2008 Moffett premiered his first feature documentary film The Ordinary Radicals,[7] following authors Shane Claiborne and Chris Haw on their 11,000 mile "Jesus for President" book tour [8]. The film screened in more than 30 cities and half a dozen film festivals in 2008 and 2009. Moffett's second feature, Return to El Salvador[9], documents the aftermath of a 12 year civil war and the interplay between the Salvadoran people and the US politics and policies that directly influence the Central American country. Narrated by Martin Sheen, the film features interviews by former US ambassador in El Salvador Robert White.
