Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode is the CEO of Murtala Muhammed Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of Africans. She is a Nigerian legal practitioner, business consultant, human rights activist and development specialist with special interest in corporate social responsibility, social impact and women and girls initiatives[1] in Africa.[2][3]

Early Life and Family[edit]

Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode was born in Lagos to late General Murtala Muhammed and Ajoke Muhammed. Gen. Muhammed was Nigeria’s head of state in 1975 until his assassination in a failed coup[4][5] in 1976. Her mother, Dr. (Mrs) Ajoke Muhammed, a dental therapist by profession, is an active environmental sustainability and preservation crusader[6] and is currently the vice chairman of the Murtala Muhammed Foundation.[7] Muhammed-Oyebode was raised partly in Lagos were she attended Queen's College, Lagos before proceeding to Queen Anne's School, U.K for her A-level and subsequently the University of Buckingham, U.K. where she obtained an LL.B (Hons) Degree. She has a Master’s degree in Public and International Law from King's College London (University Of London), U.K specialising in International Law of Armed Conflict and the use of force. She attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989. She went ahead to obtain an MBA in Finance from the Imperial College London in 1996.

Career[edit]

Early in her career, She worked in an international law firm and financial institutions developing practical experience in corporate and litigation matters[8] and gaining specialist expertise in new ventures, business re-engineering, management, operation audits, business advisory and financial linkages. [9][10]

In 1991, Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode founded Asset Management Group Limited,[11] a Nigerian-based consultancy firm which provides both financial, business and project advisory services focused on the entire real estate development value chain.[12] She has in various capacities including her current role as the Group Chief Executive Officer led the organisation to become a client driven, award winning, International property,[13] real estate development and management company with a reputation for delivering landmark projects.[14][15]

She also serves as the CEO of The Murtala Muhammed Foundation[16] which she founded in 2002.[17] She also sits on the boards of various other organisations.[18]

In honour and to keep the legacies of her late father and former Head of State, Gen. Murtala Muhammed.[20] Muhammed-Oyebode founded the Murtala Muhammed foundation[21] in memory of her father and to keep his legacies which stood strong during his time as Head of State.[22] The Nigerian-based non-governmental organization is dedicated to engendering socioeconomic change through encouraging discourse and debate on issues pertinent to Africa’s development and programs specially focused on citizens, women empowerment, with specific emphasis on medium term disaster relief and management, healthcare development, education, gender based violence, child rights and household food security.[23][24] With several partnerships across the world, the Murtala Muhammed Foundation has grown effectively to an authority in its thematic areas.[25][26][27][28][29]

Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG)[edit]

In the wake of the rise in insurgency and the kidnap of over 200 girls from their hostel by Boko haram terrorists on April 14, 2014 in Chibok community, North East, Nigeria, Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode has been actively involved in advocating for the release of the kidnapped girls. She leads the Lagos chapter[30] of the movement geared towards sensitizing and galvanizing the Nigerian Government, concerned and well-meaning citizens towards speedily doing everything possible to rescue the Girls and returning them safely to their families and friends.[31][32] MMF has worked with the Office of the National Security Advisor (ONSA) to expand PTSD treament, especially in response to individuals who have PTSD because of Boko Haram terrorism.[33]

Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode currently sits on the board of some organizations including Lekoil, (an Africa focused oil and gas exploration and production company listed on the London Stock Exchange(LSE) with interests in Nigeria and Namibia),[34] House of Odin-owners of BoConcept Nigeria Ltd,[35] Adunmadan Ltd,[36][37](A luxury retail store) Cambridge Growth Partners, House of Zuliyana - Owners of Pandora Stores in Nigeria and Murtala Muhammed Memorial Botanical Gardens where she serves as a trustee & Member of Governing Council. She is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Member of the Nigerian Bar Association.
