Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on December 13, 2008.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that 1998's Hurricane Karl was one of four simultaneous hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean at one time, the first such occurrence since 1893?
Current status: Delisted good article

Todo[edit]

Any impact in Bermuda, Azores, or UK? More on forecasting would be nice (it's worth noting it was originally only forecast to peak as a TS). I think its record (4 simultaneous hurricanes) should be more emphasized, perhaps converting the Impact/naming section into Impact/Naming/Records. Watch out for dull wording like passive voice. One small thing. You say Karl remained a compact cyclone after peaking, but in the same sentence you talk about how it gradually lost tropical characteristics. Typically, extratropical transition causes TC's to become bigger. What was the case with Karl? All in all, a nice job. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 22:22, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • No impact (if there was any, it would be in the article )
  • I incorporated the bit about the four simultaneous hurricanes into a Impact, naming and records section.
  • The storm didn't get any larger according to the public advisories.
  • I'll give it a copyedit later.–Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 22:52, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you wanted to pursue the size issue, the extended best track does show an increase of size (of 50 percent) between the 24th and 27th. Thegreatdr (talk) 15:14, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?[edit]

Similar to Lisa, Karl did not impact any landmasses. It was one of four simultaneously-active hurricanes during the season, yes, but that in itself does not give us a reason to keep an article on the storm. It is already in poor shape without any copy edit to remove unnecessary information, such as what it wasn't (3rd sentence, MH). TropicalAnalystwx13 (talk) 03:28, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 04:15, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Meh. I'm not a fun of axing good articles (not that it is worthy of one if had more information) and this storm did form in an odd place, but still. YE Pacific Hurricane
Agree, merge this article, too.--12george1 (talk) 12:44, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
