Revision as of 06:09, 17 September 2020

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. KidAd talk 18:56, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    • no Declined There was a single IP editor making unsourced (though probably good-faith) edits, and had yet to be given a warning; I've since warned them about sourcing. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:38, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Automated comment: One or more pages in this request appear to already be protected. Please confirm.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 16:29, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Ryan Phillippe

Full protection: Persistent disruptive editing; how many years has the pencil award business been going on at this bio? 2601:188:180:B8E0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 03:32, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Ad Orientem (talk) 04:23, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Tetris Attack

Full protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Basically a genre warrior, who shows up the instant protection is lifted, with the same stupid edits. Same as every other time protection has been added. Thanks. — Smuckola(talk) 05:59, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected for a period of 1 year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Ad Orientem (talk) 19:41, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Leeds United F.C.–Millwall F.C. rivalry

Temporary semi-protection: The same anonymous user keeps removing content without any reasoning, 4th time now. I've asked why. No response. Maybe a little protection would dissuade them. TheLostBoy (talk) 13:49, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    • Comment This is all about whether or not to include a photo of a badge taunting Leeds for having been supported by convicted paedophile Jimmy Savile? Yes, there are sources saying that the taunt occurs, but doesn't it border of goading to insist the photo be included here? [1] OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:31, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Note: This sounds like a content dispute, but I am loathe to protect the version that includes undue weight on a BLP issue. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 15:52, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Note: You should probably gain consensus before adding that back. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 15:54, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's a rivalry page. The content of the image shows the rivalry and is well-sourced, and can be backed up by other refs from Express, Telegraph, Metro and others. The same user is removing the image without reason. I'd leave it removed if there was a valid reason for it to be gone. TheLostBoy (talk) 16:37, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Does it really add anything to the page? The chant is already briefly mentioned (with a reference) in the text. Adding an image as well seems WP:UNDUE. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:47, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Note: ::::Well, that makes it a content dispute-- which needs discussion and consensus on the talk page. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 22:44, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – persistent addition of unsourced birthdate to BLP article. Joeyconnick (talk) 16:22, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

List of video games considered the best

Semi-protection: Persistent non-policy-compliant edits to a page with very strict sourcing criteria. This page is essentially a honeypot for casual IP address editors to add their favorite game. Article was semi-protected for a year by Courcelles in 2018, then for a year by Sergecross73 in 2019, and since the last year-long semi-protection expired, nothing but unproductive edits have piled up in the intervening month. See Talk:List_of_video_games_considered_the_best#Interesting_note_on_revision_history and https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&page=List+of+video+games+considered+the+best . Think this page will never be safe to have not semi-protected, hence asking for indefinite rather than another year. SnowFire (talk) 19:55, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Pending-changes protected indefinitely. Ad Orientem (talk) 20:06, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Witchcraft

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Perennial target for vandalism, and reversal of meanings / alteration of content without addition of sources. Controversial page subject to POV pushing. Every time I check in I find cleanup is needed due to IP and SPA changes that weren't caught at the time. Pending changes would also work. - CorbieVreccan 20:13, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Lady A

Lady A (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism.

Numerous anonymous ips are making numerous "minor" edits over and over and running this article pushing a pov one sided view of the current name change case. Can the page be protected for a while until this does down a little, before being completely forgotten please? Plus, in the leade really? Thought it was an encyclopedia not a tabloid2A00:23C4:201:5F00:48DE:423E:637:9334 (talk) 22:56, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Canada women's national soccer team

Protection User keeps ignoring MOS:DEADNAME and insists on renaming a transgender individual to their dead name, when the individual has requested to be known by their new name in media, with sources provided. There is unanimous consensus at Quinn's wikipedia page to use the new name, but the editor refuses to accept this and continually reverts it back to their incorrect name. I don't want to accuse anyone of homophobia, but the outright refusal to accept the new name is an example of it. 2607:FEA8:85E0:253:5960:D31:F672:ADAF (talk) 01:10, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent target of IP Socks over the last two years: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/A bicyclette/Archive. Mztourist (talk) 04:12, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined The SPI is not yet closed. I am also dubious about indefinite protection for a page that has never been protected before. That is not commonly done. I suggest this be discussed with the closing admin at the SPI. Ad Orientem (talk) 05:00, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ad Orientem I urge you to reconsider this given that the page has been frequently targeted by IP socks over the past 2 years. If you are unwilling to give indefinite protection at least give it a few months protection. I am tired of having to repeatedly take these POV-pushing IPs to SPI. Diamante (musician)

Indefinite semi-protection: It seems the subject or their current management will not relent. The anon from Southern California continue to return to the article to remove an early work that is not longer for sale. Either indef protection to unconfirmed editors or indef ECP. Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Israel–Hamas war

At present we have "On 24 May, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel must immediately halt its Rafah offensive.[1]"

I suggest changing it to include a longer, semantically-complete, quotation, to read: "On 24 May, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel must immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.[2]"

As the Guardian article points out, and reports judges as arguing, the last comma is critical to the meaning of the ruling. Hunc (talk) 10:49, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
