Ohio Valley Mall is a one-story enclosed shopping mall in Richland Township, outside St. Clairsville, Ohio. It was opened in 1978 and was developed by the Youngstown, Ohio-based Cafaro Company, which continues to own and manage it. The mall currently has four open anchor stores which are Boscov's, Dunham's Sports, Marshalls, and Michaels. It contains more than 100 stores and services. The mall currently has two vacant anchor stores which were once Macy's and Sears.

The Ohio Valley Mall opened on October 4, 1978. The mall opened with five anchor stores which were JCPenney, Kaufmann's, L.S. Good, Montgomery Ward, and Sears. Opening tenants at the mall included Abbey's Restaurant & Lounge, Aladdin's Castle Arcade, DiPomadorro's, Foot Locker, Foxmoor's, Hallmark, King's Jewelry, Lerner, Merry-Go-Round, National Record Mart, Ormond's, PearleVision Center, Ponderosa Steakhouse, RadioShack, Rite Aid, Rogers Jewelers, Spencer's, The Limited, Thom McAn, Waldenbooks, Wendy's, York Steak House, and Zide's Sporting Goods, among others. In 1979, Kroger opened across the street and Bonanza Steakhouse opened across the street in 1980. Sam Goody also opened in 1980.
In March 1982, L.S. Good closed and Stone & Thomas opened in its space in August of that year. Carmike Cinemas opened in 1982 and KB Toys opened in 1983. In April 1983, Montgomery Ward closed and was replaced by Kmart in November of that year. Foxmoor's closed in 1984, while Hills opened that year. In 1986, York Steak House closed and Window Works opened in its space in 1988.
Toys "R" Us opened across the street in 1986. In 1987, Vanity opened. Abbey's Restaurant & Lounge moved to Wheeling, West Virginia, in 1988, and was replaced by Tilt, not to be confused with Tilt Studio, in 1992. Also, in 1988, National Record Mart closed, while Shoe Dept. opened that year. Payless Shoesource and Victoria's Secret opened in 1989.
In 1990, Aladdin's Castle Arcade and Ormond's closed. Rex Electronics opened in 1992. In 1993, Lerner closed and KB Toys moved into its space that year. Kroger closed in 1994 and TJ Maxx opened in its space in 1997. In 1996, Merry-Go-Round and Thom McAn closed.
Stone & Thomas moved in 1996 into a larger location within the mall. Also, in 1996, Zide's Sporting Goods closed and was replaced by Hibbett Sports in 1998. Burlington Coat Factory opened in 1997 in the space Stone & Thomas occupied prior to moving. Also, in 1997, Rite Aid and Window Works closed. Things Remembered opened in 1997 in the space KB Toys occupied prior to moving.
In 1998, PearleVision Center closed and LensCrafters opened in its space in 2000. DiPomadorro's also closed in 1998. In October 1998, Stone & Thomas was converted to Elder-Beerman due to the latter acquiring the former. Garfield's Restaurant & Pub opened in 1999. Also, in 1999, Hills was converted to Ames due to the latter acquiring the former.
The former Rite Aid and the former Window Works were merged and renovated in 1999 to add Old Navy, which opened that year. Also, in 1999, Gap, Kitchen Collection, and PacSun opened. Burlington Coat Factory closed in 2000 and was replaced by Steve & Barry's in 2005. Also, in 2000, Ponderosa Steakhouse closed and a mattress store was slated to open in its space in 2004, but these plans never came to fruition. Regis Salon opened in 2000 and Cracker Barrel opened across the street in March 2001.
Also, in 2001, TJ Maxx closed and was replaced by H. H. Gregg in November 2011. Christopher & Banks opened in 2001. Also, in 2001, Ames closed and Sibs Flea Market opened in its space in 2004. Wendy's closed in 2004 and was replaced by The Children's Place in October 2013. In 2005, Deb opened.
Kaufmann's was converted to Macy's in September 2006 due to the latter acquiring the former. In 2007, JCPenney moved to Triadelphia, West Virginia,[2] and Levin Furniture opened in its space in 2009. The Limited closed in 2007. Also, in 2007, Rex Electronics closed and was replaced by The Salvation Army thrift store in August 2009. KB Toys closed in early 2008.
Also, in 2008, Foot Locker closed and Finish Line opened in its space in 2010. Steve & Barry's closed in late 2008 due to bankruptcy and was replaced by Crafts 2000 in 2009.[3] Also, in 2009, Bonanza Steakhouse closed. Old Navy moved to Triadelphia, West Virginia, in late 2009, and Fun Zone opened in its space in 2010. Also, in 2010, Waldenbooks closed due to bankruptcy and was replaced by Books-A-Million in 2011.[3]
The Cafaro Company announced in 2012 plans to renovate the mall's interior to add a new anchor store.[3] Also, in 2012, Sibs Flea Market closed and Rural King opened in its space that year. The mall's Sam Goody store is one of the last remaining Sam Goody stores in the country.[4] Levin Furniture closed in late 2012[3] and in February 2013, it was announced that it would be replaced by Boscov's.[5] In March 2013, PacSun closed and Payless Shoesource moved into a different location within the mall.
Fun Zone closed in April 2013 and MC Sports opened in its space in August of that year. Also, in 2013, the former PacSun and the space Payless Shoesource occupied prior to moving were merged and renovated to add a new a store space, which Victoria's Secret moved into that year. Gap closed in 2013, Shoe Dept. moved into its space, and was renamed Shoe Dept. Encore that year. Also, in 2013, Books-A-Million and Kitchen Collection moved into different locations within the mall. The former Levin Furniture was renovated in 2013 to include the spaces Books-A-Million, Victoria's Secret, and other tenants occupied prior to moving.
Also, in 2013, Macy's received upgrades. The Salvation Army thrift store closed in 2013 and was replaced by Ulta Beauty in September 2015. In October 2013, Boscov's opened in the former Levin Furniture.[6] Rapture Vapor opened in 2014. In April 2014, Justice opened, rue21 opened in May of that year, and Yankee Candle opened in June of that year.
Woodbury Outfitters opened in 2015. Also, in 2015, Zales Jewelers left the mall, but returned in 2018 when Rogers Jewelers closed, and opened in its space. Crafts 2000 closed in July 2015 and was replaced by Pat Catan's in September of that year. Also, in 2015, Deb also closed and New Dimension Comics opened in its space in January 2016. Hallmark moved in 2016 into the space Shoe Dept. occupied prior to moving.
In April 2016, the former Bonanza Steakhouse was demolished to add Aspen Dental, which opened in December of that year, Sport Clips Haircuts, which opened in January 2017, Ohio Valley Nutrition, which opened in February 2017, and Tony’s Spa, which opened in March 2017. Buckle opened in July 2016 in the space Hallmark occupied prior to moving. In September 2016, ICR Equipment Rental, Sales & Supply opened in the space next to H. H. Gregg. Elder-Beerman and Kmart closed in March 2017. Also, in March 2017, Carmike Cinemas was converted to AMC Theatres due to the latter acquiring the former.
Vanity closed in March 2017 and was replaced by Home Decor by Caroline in September 2022. In April 2017, MC Sports closed due to bankruptcy and its space was used by Spirit Halloween that year. The former Elder-Beerman was subdivided and renovated in April 2017 to add Marshalls, which opened in September of that year. Also, in 2017, H. H. Gregg closed due to bankruptcy and Levin Furniture and Mattress opened in its space in October of that year. RadioShack also closed in 2017 due to bankruptcy and was replaced by Ohio Valley PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) in May 2018.
Also, in 2017, Things Remembered closed and Connie's Creative Collective opened in its space in October 2021. Tilt also closed in 2017. Also, in 2017, Woodbury Outfitters closed and was replaced by Honda Direct Line in 2018. The former Tilt and a portion of the former Elder-Beerman were merged and renovated in October 2017 to add Tilt Studio, a 25,000 square foot arcade with more than 100 arcade and video games, 2-level laser tag, mini bowling, Himalaya Ride, black light golf, J.P. Pepperoni Snack Bar, and party rooms, which opened in April 2018. In June 2018, Toys "R" Us closed due to bankruptcy and its space was used by Spirit Halloween that year.
The former MC Sports was subdivided and renovated in November 2018 to add the Belmont County VA Outpatient Clinic, which opened in March 2019. In early 2019, Kitchen Collection closed and its space was used by Hickory Farms from November to December 2022. Yankee Candle closed in March 2019 and I Adore CBD opened in its space in November of that year. Also, in March 2019, it was announced that Chick-fil-A would open on the mall perimeter. Half of the former Kmart was subdivided and renovated in March 2019 to add Dunham's Sports, which opened in October of that year, and Five Below, which opened in June 2020, while the other half of the former Kmart was demolished to add Hampton by Hilton, which opened in April 2021.
Also, in March 2019, the former Ponderosa Steakhouse was walled off to advertise for Hampton by Hilton. It was announced in April 2019 that Sears would be closing. In May 2019, Ohio Valley PDR closed. Payless Shoesource closed in May 2019 due to bankruptcy and was replaced by Toys N More in early 2020. In June 2019, Pat Catan's closed due to Michaels acquiring the former in 2016, and the subsequent announcement that the latter would be closing or converting the remaining Pat Catan's stores to Michaels stores.
Oil and Gas Safety Supply opened in the former Toys "R" Us in June 2019. In July 2019, Sears closed and its space has been used by Spirit Halloween on a seasonal basis since that year. Michaels opened in the former Pat Catan's in August 2019. In January 2020, it was announced that Macy's would be closing as part of a plan to close 125 stores nationwide. Chick-fil-A opened on the mall perimeter in March 2020, while Macy's closed that month.[7]
Also, in March 2020, Levin Furniture and Mattress closed due to bankruptcy and Ferguson's House of Furniture opened in its space in October of that year. Regis Salon also closed in March 2020 and was replaced by Volume One Styling Salon in May 2022. In September 2020, Justice closed due to bankruptcy and Daily Thread opened in its space in January 2023. Christopher & Banks closed in early 2021 and was replaced by Vibe Selfie Museum in May 2022. Also, in early 2021, Zales Jewelers closed and its space was used by Hickory Farms from November to December 2023.
The former Sears was used as a COVID-19 vaccination clinic from February to May 2021. In July 2021, ICR Equipment Rental, Sales & Supply closed and Harbor Freight Tools opened in its space in October 2022. Garfield's Restaurant & Pub closed in August 2021 and was replaced by Coaches Burger Bar in August 2022. From November 2021 to January 2022, the former Sears was used by Hickory Farms. Toys N More closed in early 2022 and T-Shirt Station opened in its space in November of that year.
In September 2022, Vibe Selfie Museum closed and was replaced by Southern Caliber in March 2024. Volume One Styling Salon closed in December 2022 and Mane Focus Salon opened in its space in January 2024. In early 2023, I Adore CBD absorbed Rapture Vapor. Buffalo Creek Country opened in May 2023 in the space Zales Jewelers occupied prior to moving. In July 2023, RetroVideoPlus opened in the former Kitchen Collection.
Connie's Creative Collective closed in September 2023 and was replaced by L & J Gifts the following month. In November 2023, The Olive Branch Christian Gifts opened in the space Rapture Vapor occupied prior to being absorbed by I Adore CBD. L & J Gifts closed in December 2023. In January 2024, RetroVideoPlus was renamed Pixel Heart Games. Southern Caliber closed in May 2024.
