Australia and the United States first met on 2 August 1997 in Brisbane , Australia.[1] They have played each other seven times with the US Eagles winning five of those encounters.[1] They have met at three separate Rugby World Cup 's — first at the 2002 Rugby World Cup in Spain , and also in the 2006 and 2014 tournaments. At the 2006 Rugby World Cup they faced each other in the pool stages and the play-offs with the United States winning both matches.
