Black Box Diaries is a documentary directed by Shiori Itō, which premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.[1][2][3] The film documents Itō's own sexual assault investigation and case in Japan.[1]

The documentary is produced by Hanna Aqvilin and Eric Nyari.

The film had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on January 20 as part of the World Cinema Documentary Competition. In May 2024, MTV Documentary Films acquired US distribution rights to the film.[4]

Reception[edit]

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 100% of 33 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 8.3/10.[5] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 87 out of 100, based on 10 critics, indicating "universal acclaim".[6]
