On May 31, 2012, Guinness World Records(GWR) certified the world record for most expensive hot dog, at $145.49. The "California Capitol City Dawg", served at Capitol Dawg in Sacramento, California, features a grilled 18" 3/4 lb. all-beef in a natural casing frank from Chicago, served on a fresh baked herb-and-oil focaccia roll, smeared with white truffle butter, then toasted on the grill. The original hot dog is topped with a whole grain mustard from Meaux,France, garlic-herb mayonnaise, sauteed chopped shallots, organic mixed baby greens, maple syrup-marinated/fruitwood smoked uncured bacon from New Hampshire, chopped tomato, expensive moose cheese from Sweden, sweetened dried cranberries, basil olive oil/pear-cranberry-coconut balsamic vinaigrette, and ground peppercorn. A GWR adjudicator observed as Sacramento's Brian Wheat, bass player from the rock band Tesla, was the first customer to order and purchase the new menu item. Capitol Dawg owner Mike Brown who created, prepared and served the pricey hot dog to Wheat, then accepted the official GWR world record certificate. Proceeds from the sale of each $145.49 hot dog are being donated to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. The previous GWR world record for most expensive hot dog was held by a hot dog stand in Canada, who sold their specialty sausage for $100. |
