I have seriously moved the contents of the previous page "Drainage system" to a new page Drainage system (Geomorphology) while converting the present page Drainage system to a disambiguation page in an effort to improve Wikipedia. Thanks

Not sure why that guy wanted to delete the page, considering I gave references and it was about the inventor of a program that HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of people use, thanks anyway.KAOSv.s.CONTROL (talk) 16:37, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm surprised you listed this for speedy A7. The article at the time included significant notability claims, making speedy unsuitable. Thanks for tagging, but I've declined the request. --Dweller (talk) 23:07, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

deletion?

How is this advertising, if there was someone who wished to write an artical of somesort for school or a company, this artical is full of facts which would help them achieve this, could you tell me what aspects are wrong and make this an example of advertising? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tmm2008 (talk • contribs)

I am a bit new to edit wiki pages... sorry to make it reads like advert... However, you can find information about this program in many downlod/freeware sites, I can't see any difference from this page from pages for other download managers. What about these pages: Free_Download_Manager, GetRight, Orbit_Downloader? I can rewrite it if you think it reads like an advert. I was just following the page content style from those pages... Hello. I changed your speedy deletion tag on this page from db-spam to db-corp. It was clearly not promoting the company at all. Because speedy deletion has very little oversight, please make sure you're using the tags correctly. A great essay to read about the subject is WP:WIHSD. I agree the article should be speedied, just for different reasons. You've essentially confused a new contributor who could be very valuable contributor with the proper direction. It would be hard to explain to them how they are promoting. However, now that I've changed it to db-corp, I can explain why they don't meet notable requirements or even make a claim to notability per WP:COMPANY. I hope I dont come accross rude, I don't intend to be, and I apologize if I do Thanks.--TParis00ap (talk) 22:49, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You were right, sorry about my db-spam confusion. RT | Talk 17:51, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, thanks for the link to WIHSD - that's made a lot of things more clear, I'll try to be better in the future RandomTime 10:23, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sandoman is not unnoteworthy!

Hi. I think that you made a mistake in the proposal to delete the article "Sandoman" because the character is really well known around here. Rajhanz (talk) 14:45, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Randomtime. I want to inform you that you were unwittingly part of an experiment of newbie treatment in which I participated under a different name. The purpose of WP:NEWT is to determine how experienced users would be treated if they were new users and created sub-standard but viable articles. The alternative account was LestWeBeScattered; you can find a description of my experience at WP:NEWT#Articles by Olaf Davis in case you are interested. Also, I want to apologise for having deceived you and used your time in this way, diverting it from real work on the encyclopedia. If I can offer my time and services for anything you need in return, feel free to ask at any time. Cheers, Olaf Davis (talk) 22:16, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Very interesting, I remember looking up some information after the fact for that, it was a mistaken tag. Yes, I think there is definitely prejidustice towards new users in NPPs, but I'm not sure what we can do about that. Thanks for your time, and I don't object at all for mine being used like this. By the way, the main reason I was so quick to speedy (before quickly changing my mind, may I add) - was because of the tone it was written, the stubbiness of it, and the fact that it looked slightly WP:NPOV breaking, a potential WP:COI with the user-name LestWeBeScattered, which I picked up religious tendencies for, and linked that with the religious subject of the article. RandomTime 22:36, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply. I'm glad you've taken the experience in the positive light it was intended. I can completely understand the tendency to see an article with lots of problems and be therefore less likely to give it the benefit of the CSD doubt. Still, I the potential to do harm by upsetting new editors with deletions which stray outside the letter of the guidelines is sufficient to advise caution.
Funnily enough it hadn't even crossed my mind to connect the article's subject with the username - I picked the former fairly randomly from WP:AFC and the latter is just from a verse I happen to find pretty. But still, even if I had picked the user name because I was a Christian and was writing about pastors for the same reason, I don't really see that that would constitute a COI. Olaf Davis (talk) 22:29, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Having said all that, I don't want to sound like I'm telling you off over a mistake which you quickly corrected. Just my thoughts on your thoughts above... Olaf Davis (talk) 22:30, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Technological Wiki deletion

Hi Randomtime, I would like to know in what way can I inform to every people about this platform. I am the Sysop of this wiki, and I would like can spread its existence. I though this is a good way due to the platform is based on MediaWiki software. We are not trying to promote any enterprise / association , just the platform usage. Please, tell me how can I do to do it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Malagutidomp (talk • contribs) 14:48, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly read Conflict of Interest - promotion flys in the face of this, even promotion of a free software platform, if a platform is good - then in time it will become notable, and then be added to wikipedia. I've done some editing to the page, to tone it down and try and make it as neutral as possible, feel free to improve it from there, and defend yourself on the AFD page RandomTime 19:39, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thanks, Should I remove the AfDM template ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Malagutidomp (talk • contribs) 11:11, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, please leave it until the end of the AFD, where an admin will close, I'll link to this discussion on the AFD page RandomTime 18:09, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I submitted this page for deletion as it's not really notable for wikipedia, the article is just a list, and wikipedia is an encyclopedia. A Category may be more suitable. To create bullet points, just use the * symbol, and leave a line break between each item.

It's okay if you ignore me; I don't normally use that username anyway. That was my only time I used "CoughSyrupped." You might see me on other usernames, but probably not know it because I will be talking about something else. --70.179.178.5 (talk) 13:38, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not notable

User talk:Eddster created Peach Glen, Pennsylvania and you proposed deletion as not notable.

I agree, not notable, but Eddster continues to create a great many such articles in Adams County, Pennsylvania and York County, Pennsylvania, so I am looking for help in stopping this pattern of creating many basically useless articles. In a few cases, unincorporated places may be notable because of their history or nearby bridges or the like, and I created one myself, but if they are complete orphans, there is no point.

What would you suggest we do? Can you help? --DThomsen8 (talk) 15:05, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Page Triage newsletter

Hey all. Some quick but important updates on what we've been up to and what's coming up next :).

The curation toolbar, our Wikimedia-supported twinkle replacement. We're going to be deploying it, along with a pile of bugfixes, to wikipedia on 9 August. After a few days to check it doesn't make anything explode or die, we'll be sticking up a big notice and sending out an additional newsletter inviting people to test it out and give us feedback :). This will be followed by two office hours sessions - one on Tuesday the 14th of August at 19:00 UTC for all us Europeans, and one on Wednesday the 15th at 23:00 UTC for the East Coasters out there :). As always, these will be held in #wikimedia-office; drop me a note if you want to know how to easily get on IRC, or if you aren't able to attend but would like the logs.

I hope to see a lot of you there; it's going to be a big day for everyone involved, I think :). I'll have more notes after the deployment! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 20:13, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages newsletter

Hey all :)

A couple of new things.

First, you'll note that all the project titles have now changed to the Page Curation prefix, rather than having the New Pages Feed prefix. This is because the overarching project name has changed to Page Curation; the feed is still known as New Pages Feed, and the Curation Toolbar is still the Curation Toolbar. Hopefully this will be the last namechange ;p.

On the subject of the Curation Toolbar (nice segue, Oliver!) - it's now deployed on Wikipedia. Just open up any article in the New Pages Feed and it should appear on the right.

It's still a beta version - bugs are expected - and we've got a lot more work to do. But if you see something going wrong, or a feature missing, drop me a note or post on the project talkpage and I'll be happy to help :). Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 00:09, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page Curation update

Hey all :). We've just deployed another set of features for Page Curation. They include flyouts from the icons in Special:NewPagesFeed, showing who reviewed an article and when, a listing of this in the "info" flyout, and a general re-jigging of the info flyout - we've also fixed the weird bug with page_titles_having_underscores_instead_of_spaces in messages sent to talkpages, and introduced CSD logging! As always, these features will need some work - but any feedback would be most welcome. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:18, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page Curation newsletter

Hey Randomtime. This will be, if not our final newsletter, one of the final ones :). After months of churning away at this project, our final version (apart from a few tweaks and bugfixes) is now live. Changes between this and the last release include deletion tag logging, a centralised log, and fixes to things like edit summaries.

Hopefully you like what we've done with the place; suggestions for future work on it, complaints and bugs to the usual address :). We'll be holding a couple of office hours sessions, which I hope you'll all attend. Many thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 11:16, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page Curation newsletter

Hey Randomtime. I'm dropping you a note because you've been using the Page Curation suite recently - this is just to let you know that we've deployed the final version :). There's some help documentation Wikipedia:Page Curation/Introductionhere that shows off all the features, just in case there are things you're not familiar with. If you find any bugs or have requests for new features, let us know here. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 11:59, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page Curation newsletter - closing up!

Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. If you've got ideas for features Page Curation doesn't currently have, stick them here.

Again, it's been an honour. Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 12:22, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a newsletter

This is just a tribute.

Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.

In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 11:18, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Malphas

Hi! Thanks for drawing my attention to Malphas. I've declined the speedy deletion, but have reverted the article to an earlier state. It looks like it was hijacked earlier this year to describe a band; this has now been corrected. Stephen! Coming... 12:05, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
