Hello, welcome to my talk page!

 • If you want to leave a message, please do it at the bottom as a new section, for better formatting. You can do that by simply pressing the plus sign (+) or "new section" on the top of this page. And don't forget to sign your messages with four tildes, like this: ~~~~.
 • I prefer to keep discussions unfragmented. So if you leave a comment for me here, I will most likely respond to it on this same page–my talk page–as an effort to keep the entire conversation in one place. By the same token, if I leave a comment on your talk page, please respond to it there. Remember, we can use our watchlist to keep track of when responses are made. At the same time, feel free to send an alert to me on this page about a comment you have left elsewhere. (I will break this rule sometime, if I want to get your attention quickly)
 • I am busy in real life and may not respond swiftly to queries.
 • If I have reviewed an FLC for you, I have watchlisted the page, and will return within a reasonable time to Support, Oppose, or otherwise address your nomination. Reminders are unnecessary. Thanks.

Sortability on head coaches lists

There was a question about sorting on head coaches lists at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of New York Islanders head coaches. I do not think that it is possible. Could you give us an opinion please? Thanks in advance, Dabomb87 (talk) 19:48, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Chris, I really like this article. I see in the last paragraph before the tables you mention that some were ineligible to be President. Seeing as this is the case for most of them, I think it would be worth making a note of those who were still eligible. If none are, then that paragraph can be reworded accordingly. Good work. Grsz11 22:25, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Regarding your suggestion, I am not exactly sure who is eligible to be President. The term "natural born citizen" is very unclear and the constitution never explicitly explain it.—Chris! ct 22:30, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ha, yes, that's very true as well. Grsz11 22:40, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE: List of NBA head coaches

I'm practically the same thing as List of NFL head coaches, except that it has the teams, and a little bit more information. I also wasted 10 hours approx. doing that, so you better have a perfect reason why this article cannot be made into one. -- L.A.K.ERS 19:55, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not stupid. ;b Anyways, I just won't know how to write the prose when the lists are separated. This is my current plan: I write A–F, you write G–M, and Dabomb87 "could" write N–Z. Also, since I don't really care who nominates with me (of course we will definitely be nominators), you could choose whether or not to include Dabomb87 as a nominator. So yeahh...contact me ASAP about the prose, and I hope you could write it on your sandbox. Happy editing. -- L.A.K.ERS 23:49, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sports Personality main list of topic

Hi, you've commented/supported on the previous SPoTY lists so I am guessing you are aware of the general structure etc. I was wondering if you could look at List of BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. New FL criteria discussion: Final phase

Hello, I think we've hammered out a good revised Featured List criteria here. FLC nominations and reviews

Hi, Chris. You may not be aware, but the new Featured list criteria was implemented Sunday 5 April, 00:56 (UTC) following two weeks of discussion at Wikipedia talk:Featured list criteria#New criterion discussion.

I've gone through the nominations and have noticed you have !voted Support, Oppose or Neutral at the following nominations:

 1. Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of places of worship in Crawley (List of places of worship in Crawley)
 2. Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Chicago Blackhawks players (List of Chicago Blackhawks players)

Please could you take the time to revisit the articles and candidate pages, and check them against the new Featured list criteria, and confirm/revise your !vote; any !vote made against the old criteria that is not confirmed against the new criteria will be ignored when the nomination is closed.

Additionally, the following nominations have received reviews from you, but no indication whether or not you support or oppose their promotion to WP:FL; if you could revisit these too, that would be much appreciated as the nomination will not have to be kept open any longer than necessary.

 1. Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Silver Slugger Award winners at third base (List of Silver Slugger Award winners at third base)

Finally, please accept my apologies for the brusqueness of this message; the same wording is being sent to everyone who has outstanding reviews, with only the names of lists being changed. Regards, Matthewedwards :  Chat  04:50, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

BHOF

I think we should add the players' positions, as in List of members of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Dabomb87 (talk) 22:15, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I've thinking about that, too. Do you think they need references?—Chris! ct 22:17, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Probably. I will find them. Dabomb87 (talk) 22:17, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
For NBA players, maybe their basketball-reference profiles will work. For non-NBA players, finding a ref will be more difficult.—Chris! ct 22:21, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe we should add notes about each person, like in alumni lists. Dabomb87 (talk) 22:19, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean?—Chris! ct 22:21, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
See List of United States Military Academy alumni, it would be like the "notability" column except it would be called "Achievements" or "Notes". It would take a while, but would make the list more complete and interesting for readers. Dabomb87 (talk) 22:23, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, but won't that constitute original research since we don't know which accomplishment compel the BHOF to induct a player?—Chris! ct 22:28, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(outdent) Well, they wouldn't necessarily be accomplishments that made them Hall-of-Famers, just general things, such as AP All-America and NBA awards. Dabomb87 (talk) 22:45, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok—Chris! ct 22:46, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

1998–99 NBA lockout

Honestly, I hadn't been thinking of GA before you posted on my talk page. The thought interests me greatly, but there are a few things I want to add first, since it is a little short at the moment. At some point I'll put it up for a peer review, which I always do with pages I work on for FLC. This would be my first run at GA, though, so I'm uncertain about what is expected. I see that you have some experience at this. Are there any tips that you can offer on what is expected, and how to build an article to that level? Giants2008 (17-14) 00:34, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure the postseason is technically part of the season. I'm going to undo your edit, since I'm 99.99% sure that the season is not technically over. Also, I only italicized Western since we don't know what's going to happen for the conference championships. -- L.A.K.ERScall me Keith 01:30, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, the regular season is over but the postseason is not over. And there is no need to specifically italicize Western since we use color and symbol to note conference championships, not italics. If you still object, start a discussion on WT:NBA.—Chris! ct 01:35, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Don't revert yet. On the key, it says that Italics means Season in progress. The seaosn is still in progress for the playoffs, so that is why I italicized. -- L.A.K.ERScall me Keith 01:39, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Height/weight" footnotes

I saw that you recently made this change to the NBA retired infobox. Charles Oakley now has "{} {}" floating at the top of the article. How do I fix that? I tried filling in the height and weight fields in the infobox, but that didn't work. Zagalejo^^^ 22:31, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I guess the problem is that I didn't make the parameters optionable—Chris! ct 22:39, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey -- the error was still occuring so I removed the footnotes and it seems to have fixed the issue. If you can figure out how to add it back without the error triggering, then please feel free to do so. Zodiiak (talk) 23:38, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Can you show me a diff? I am not sure what you mean.—Chris! ct 23:50, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, someone reverted my edits apparently not realizing why I removed the height/weight footnote coding, but please goto the Michael Jordan article for example and look at the template box. Look under the height/weight and you'll see that it is triggering some weird error. The only way to have it fixed (As it seems), is to remove the height/weight notes at the Template:Infobox NBAretired page. Zodiiak (talk) 01:29, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(outdent) Hm, look like the parameters is still not optionable. I am sure there is another way to fix it, it is just that I don't know. A quick question - how are you able to change the font of the title in the upper header? I thought that couldn't be changed with HTML, as it wasn't a part of the article main body. Thanks. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email guestbook complaints 01:58, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

VTA map commentary

Disagree. VTA's system is very simple, and it would be a waste to redraw it Tube-style, especially because San Jose is pretty featureless. Unless you include the freeways, there's no way to know where VTA actually goes. (The same criticisms apply to my quick-and-dirty BART map that's FP nominated, albeit less so-- since the "other" BART map isn't too clear either.) CountZ (talk) 02:45, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to nominate this page for removal, but I thought I'd run it by you first. I think this page fails 3b since the list (the bulk of the page) recreates content from List of NBA champions. Since there isn't much else to it, would it be possible to merge it with the champions list, and just add a small section about it, maybe a "trophies" section, and to balance things out, a bit can be aded about the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy (although I'm not suggesting it be merged too). -- Scorpion0422 03:51, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to nominate it. I can help merge it.—Chris! ct 03:54, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Helicopter prison escapes

Hello Chris. I've got a table question for you. I'm improving a list of Helicopter prison escapes and most of the time there is only one person, in the Escapee field, who escapes in the helicopter so it is nice to sort the table so you can find a specific Escapee. But sometimes there is several people who escape by helicopter. So my question is how do you handle the formating in a sortable table for the escapes with several people? Do you sort just the first person, don't sort that field, give a default sort symbol like a dash? If you have the time any advice would be great! -- Esemono (talk) 22:57, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In that cases, I don't think the column should be sortable at all. Anyway, that's my opinion. If you bring it to FLC in the future, it might be a good idea to ask reviewers what they think.—Chris! ct 23:29, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Basketballbox for NBA Playoffs articles

I've been testing some changes at the said template to display an "OT" indicator separately from the "team, score" cell. This is similar to the similar indicator at the ice hockey template. Tell me if you approve or disapprove, it is relatively easy to implement if it'll be used, but the template/articles won't be affected if the changes are done. You can see the template here and the mock-up here. –Howard the Duck 05:51, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a little gap between the OT indicator and the venue. Lemme know if this works on your end. I'm cross-testing this first on other browsers. –Howard the Duck 06:23, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I tried implementing it but there was tons of screw-ups elsewhere so I reverted it. For the meantime, the old style would be used until I debugged it. –Howard the Duck 08:22, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I've finally finished debugging and the template shouldn't screw up by now. –Howard the Duck 10:03, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Game sevens

I'm not immediately finding any sources that explicitly say that. I don't think it's correct. Randomly poking around basketball-reference, I found the results of the 1970 playoffs, and it seems that two division semi-final series (the equivalent of today's conference semi-finals) went seven games. Zagalejo^^^ 19:46, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll see what I can do. There are some oddities, though. In 1947, one of the semi-final series went six games, while the other was over in two games: [3]. I don't know what that's about. Zagalejo^^^ 20:04, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, here's a brief history of the playoffs that I pieced together from a couple of sources. It's kind of complicated. I'm not sure how much of this you want to include.
 • 1947-1948: Totally different set-up to what we're used to. (It's apparently modeled after the ice hockey playoffs of the time.) In the first round, the second-place finishers of each division play against each other in a best-of-three series, while the third-place finishers do the same. In the second round, the winners of those series play a best-of-three series against each other, while the first-place finishers play against each other in a best-of-seven series. In the finals, the winners of the two second-round series play against each other in a best-of-seven series.
 • 1949: A more familiar set-up, in which there are four best-of-three division semifinals, two best-of-three division finals, and a best-of-seven league championship series.
 • 1950: This year, there are three divisions. One team (presumably the one with the best record) gets a bye between their division's finals and the league's finals, while the winners of the other two divisional finals duke it out in the third round to secure the other spot in the finals. Overall, the playoffs follow a 3-3-3-7 format.
 • 1951-1953: Back to two divisions, but now with a 3-5-7 format.
 • 1954: The playoffs begin with three-team round robins in each division. These are followed by two best-of-three division finals and a best-of-seven league finals.
 • 1955-1957: Back to 3-5-7 format.
 • 1958-1960: Now there is a 3-7-7 format.
 • 1961-1967: Now there is a 5-7-7 format.
 • 1968-1974: 7-7-7
 • 1975-1983: 3-7-7-7
 • 1984-2002: 5-7-7-7
 • 2003-present: 7-7-7-7
Most of this isn't explicitly spelled out anywhere - I figured most of it out by looking at the records in the NBA Encyclopedia -- but see The First Tip-Off, p. 211-212, for an explanation of the system used from 1947-1948. Zagalejo^^^ 05:09, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, very detail, thanks. Just one more request, could you give me the exact citation, so that I could use it in the article? Thanks—Chris! ct 05:16, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 • Rosen, Charley (2008). The First Tip-Off: The Incredible Story of the Birth of the NBA. Mc-Graw Hill. pp. 211–212. ISBN 0071487859.
 • Anderson, Corrie and Rob Reheuser, et al (2006). Sporting News Official 2006–2007 NBA Guide. Sporting News Books. ISBN 0892048549.
Technically, there were no division/conference series in 1947 and 1948. With the way things were organized, two teams from the same division could theoretically meet each other in the finals. I'll try to think of a way to reword that sentence. Zagalejo^^^ 05:44, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I edited that paragraph. However, I'm not sure if I should go into more detail with regards to the 1947 and 1948 playoffs. BTW, I did find a source that explicitly says the 7 game Conference Finals began in 1958: [4]. Zagalejo^^^ 06:29, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Aha! We can use this to cite all of that paragraph. [5] Or maybe not. It's from AuthorHouse, so it probably won't be considered a reliable source. Drat. Zagalejo^^^ 06:56, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of extant papal tombs/archive1—thanks for your input, but I beg to differ that this is a "matter of style". I knew it had been reviewed, but Jordan's retirement should have been in that section all along, because that probably hurt the NBA as much as the lockout itself. Hi Chris

There's a problem with your recent edit to List of Emperors of the Han Dynasty, at least on my monitor (which is about 13 inches wide). The Emperor Guangwu image is in the right place, so is the gilt-bronze dragon-head handle image (i.e. both can be seen as still hovering to the left in the "naming conventions" prose section). However, the Story of Jin Midi image is now completely divorced from its relevant prose text section "regents and empress dowagers" and is instead found hovering to the left of "naming conventions", where it is not relevant at all (and where it might even confuse readers as to why it is there). Could you fix this, please?--Pericles of AthensTalk 22:43, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
