ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:56, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome

I noticed you have been editing some health-related articles recently. A bunch of us hang out at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine, and you're welcome to join us. It's also a good place to ask questions about finding good sources for medical content or writing style. Feel free to put it on your watchlist or stopping by to say hello some time. Shōgun (novel) lead

Hi 5ive9een, might I suggest you take a look at WP:LEAD? Starting off with "Australian author James Clavell’s novel Shōgun (1975) begins at the start of 17th century feudal Japan, fictionalizing incidents and personages effecting the Edo Period’s advent." is not a correct way to start off the article.

And try to use straight apostrophes: ' and not ’! Hope this helps. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 19:33, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You restored errors of fact 5ive9teen (talk) 19:36, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I changed the wording, I haven't "restored errors of fact". Please undo your revert, this is not a proper lead. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 20:31, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is English your secondary language? Because this is grammatically incorrect. In 1990 it had sold 15 million copies worldwide? No, "by 1990". Set almost completely in the months prior? What does that mean? Shōgun details how Lord Toranaga (...) set the stage to become shogunate? He set the stage (WP:IDIOM) to become a political position? No, he became a shogun, not a shogunate. Blackthorne's unceremonious nautic arrival? What does that mean? Please undo your revert. My revision was objectively better. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 20:37, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see you have edited the article since my message and haven't changed the incorrect lead. If you won't, I'll do so. And again, please use straight apostrophes, like " and ', and not . soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 05:43, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A decorator is someone who decorates. Please note that WP:COMPETENCE is required. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 18:05, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted back to the most stable revision. I urge you strongly to stop your disruptive editing. Your edits are not helping the article, please understand that. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 18:11, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You continue all the same. I've issued you another warning. Please stop. You are not helping. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 18:59, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look at the diff.
  • Use straight apostrophes. Third time I'm telling you this
  • No reason to make piped links, [[Edo period|Edo period’s]]? No, just [[Edo period]]'s
  • There is no relation between being the third novel and selling six million copies
  • "Set in feudal Japan almost entirely in the months before the pivotal Battle of Sekigahara" is vague, "almost entirely" in Japan? "almost entirely" in the months? Two months, twelve months? You can just state "set before the pivotal Battle of Sekigahara"
WP:COMPETENCE is required and so is WP:COMMUNICATION. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 19:09, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please keep discussions in one place.

FYI, Portuguese are Western Europeans. A book that ends after an event does not only include those that preceded the conclusion, and when commas serve no purpose except adherence to a nonexistent rule, leave ‘em out 5ive9teen (talk) 20:37, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for replying, but out of all my messages, that doesn't seem to be the most urgent to address. Commas, really? For the European region, see Western Europe, Southern Europe and Northern Europe. "Western" Europe is a more Cold War-dated term, what would you consider to be "Southern" Europe and "Northern Europe"? Portugal is in the South and the UK is in the West. Northern is mostly understood as Nordic or Scandinavian.
Regardless, I am not getting through to you. You again made the lead worse (and add unnecessary details). There is no relation between being released and selling copies and I've asked you three times, stop using curly apostrophes. I can't keep edit warring when you will only reply after so many messages. I've asked Sergecross73 to take a look at your edits. WP:COMPETENCE might be an issue. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 20:56, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
