The school was originally situated on Bath Lane in the centre of the city and moved to its current site in Denton Burn in 1922. The school is built directly over the Roman [[Vallum]].

In recent years, St. Cuthbert's High School gained Science School status and for a long time has been a beacon school in the field of English and Modern Foreign Languages.

In [[2006]] St Cuthbert's High School celebrated its 125th Anniversary with a special evening hosted by Bishop Kevin Dunn.
