Palghar is a beautiful coastal town on the outskirts of Mumbai.
Palghar is a beautiful coastal town on the outskirts on Mumbai. The arabian sea coast is just 8-10 kms away from the town. And to its east it has some small mountains of the sahyadri range. The main occupation of the people of Palghar is farming and trading. Most of the rich landlords of Palghar made their money trading grass to the dairies in Mumbai. It has a good number of schools and a college. Maharashtra's biggest fishing center,Satpati,is located off Palghar railway station.

Geography:
The arabian sea coast is just 8-10 kms away from the town. And to its east it has some small mountains of the sahyadri range.

Occupations: The main occupation of the people of Palghar is farming and trading and working for companies based in Bombay. A large part of the population commutes to Bombay daily to make a living. There is also a good number of small and medium scale chemical,textile,pharmaceutical factories. Maharashtra's biggest fishing center,Satpati,is located off Palghar railway station. There are farms growing chickoos,coconuts,palm dotted all around villages around Palghar. Rice is grown on agricultural lands during the monsoon.

Demographics:
Palghar is surprisingly cosmopolitian. Being a border town between Gujarat and Maharashtra and being close to Mumbai, it has a good percentage of population of people from other states besides Maharashtra, like Gujarat,Rajasthan,Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Most of the rich landlords of Palghar made their money trading grass to the dairies in Mumbai. Grass trading is still a major occupation of many families in Palghar.
