The Chinese family name Mok (莫) is pronounced in Mandarin "Mò" (4th tone), in Cantonese "Mok" (6th tone), and in Hmong Moua, Mua, or Muas.According to a Study of Mu Ying's Name record, descendants attribute the name of the city as their surname after antediluvian ruler 0f Zhuan Xu(a legendary monarch in ancient China) build the City MoYang (莫陽城) located at Hebei, northern province of the People's Republic of China.
