Geneva Gay is an American author,educator, and speaker. She is an emeritus professor at the University of Washington-Seattle.[1] Dr. Gay is nationally and internationally known for her work in multicultural education and curriculum design. Dr. Gay serves as a consultant for the Teaching Diverse Students initiative through what is now known as Learning For Justice.[2] The initiative was formerly known as Teaching Tolerance. In 1994, Dr. Gay was the first recipient of The G. Pritchy Smith Multicultural Educator Award given by the National Association of Multicultural Education.[3] The award was originally called "The Multicultural Educator Award."
In 2001, Dr. Gay published her renowned book titled Culturally Responsive Teaching.[4] The book was recognized with an outstanding writing award from the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.[5] Dr. Gay has authored and co-authored several other book publications, and numerous journal articles.[6]
Awards
The American Educational Research Association awarded Dr. Gay the Distinguished Scholar Award in 1990.[7]
