Courtney Gripling is a fictional character on Nickelodeon animated series As Told By Ginger, voiced by Liz Georges. She takes her role as "The Most Popular Girl at Lucky Junior High" very seriously. Albeit extremely rich, arrogant and well-liked at school, Courtney isn't actually the typical evil girl who hates the main character (Ginger Foutley, in this case) and that puts her aside the popular girl stereotype. She may be self-absorbed and vain, but she's not wicked. Deep inside, Courtney gives the impression of being a very good girl, but she has to maintain her position, so she has been looked as a total snob when she really isn't. You can see that in the first episodes, she's quite prouder and more big-headed than in the later ones, because she unconsciously begins to show her real personality and to demonstrate less egoism and more compassion and humanity. Besides, she doesn’t feel anymore worried about proving who she is, like she was at first. Courtney completely disappeared during the high school episodes.

Courtney has taken a shine on Ginger Foutley. Her fascination with her started as an experiment to see how the other half lives and eventually blossomed into a real friendship. Courtney looks to Ginger as someone she can turn to when she needs advice from someone other than her mindless followers. While her other friends, Miranda Killgallen (Cree Summer) and Melissa "Mipsy" Mipson (Sandy Fox) virtually worship the ground that Courtney walks on, Ginger seems to do just fine living independently from Courtney's shadow. In fact, Courtney is secretly envious of Ginger's backbone and the tight bond that she shares with her best friends Dodie Bishop (Aspen Miller) and Macie Lightfoot (Jackie Harris), since Courtney is aware that they would stick by her no matter what, whilst Miranda and company would only be there as long as Courtney's reign of popularity endures.

Apart from that, Courtney has slightly a crush on Darren Patterson's popular older brother Will (Wilburt), although she also did like Senator Ricci's son Michael.

Friends

Ginger Foutley: Courtney's friendship with Ginger started out as strictly professional. Ginger was Courtney's only connection to the real world. She counted on Ginger to tell her how things work outside the gated community she lived in. Eventually this friendship blossomed into something real. Courtney began including Ginger in parties and sleepovers- but sometimes, these situations turned into social experiments to see how Ginger the geek would manage.

Miranda Killgallen: Miranda is Courtney's best friend and right hand woman. Miranda was always the one Courtney would consult with on anything. But Miranda usually had her own agenda. As Ginger Foutley became closer to Courtney, Miranda had to ensure that she wasn't replaced by the red-headed geek.

Mipsy Mipson A member of Courtney's inner circle and likely the most popular in her crowd after Miranda. She hates Ginger for the same reason as her.
