He advocates for access to abortion in instances of rape or incest but withdraws his endorsement from the practice when a stage in the fetus' development is reached that allows them to “feel pain”.<ref name=SE1/> He maintains and recognizes the legality of [[abortion in Massachusetts]] as a result of democratic practices and the will of the people being expressed.

Doughty has been a regional employer of a few hundred employees for decades in the State of Massachusetts and seeks to make Massachusetts attractive to other corporations of a wide variety of quality jobs across many sectors of the economy.

Doughty has stated that candidates from both parties have been the recipients of his vote. Having voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Presidential race and Trump in the 2020 Presidential race.<ref name=SE1/>

His father was a Christian preacher and eventual convert to the LDS Church. Doughty attended [[Brigham Young University]] where he graduated in 1987 with a degree in economics<ref name=HS1/> then continued his education at the [[Harvard Business School]] where he received an MBA in 1989.<ref name=HS1/>
