In the past year-and-a-half, Spears' personal travails have far overshadowed her music career. Britney Spears' fifth studio album is the latest studio album by American pop singer Britney Spears. It is her first studio album since In the Zone in November 2003.

Production

With her new single, "Gimme More," having just hit the airwaves, Britney Spears' long-in-the-works comeback album is set for a November 12 2007 release worldwide, November 13 2007 in the U.S via Jive. The Danjahandz-produced "Gimme More" debuted August 30 2007 on New York station Z100's Web site; at its outset, Spears announces, "It's Britney, b*tch," atop club-friendly electro beats.

No other firm news has been confirmed by Jive about the as-yet-untitled album, which is expected to feature contributions from J.R. Rotem and Sean Garrett. It's Spears' first studio release since 2003's "In the Zone."

In the past year-and-a-half, Spears' personal travails have far overshadowed her music career. But she is rumored to be making an appearance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas, where she has previously made headlines by kissing Madonna and performing with a giant snake draped across her body. Acordoning to People , Spears is to also perform a new song called Cry along with Gimme More. [12] [13] [14]

Producer Ne-Yo said that Jive Records wished to avoid the topic of Spears' ex-husband, as "we don't need no songs about Kevin." He stated the songs he is writing will be "songs about all the controversy, then, you know, aside from all that, they'll be just regular quality songs. Songs about love, songs about hate, songs about whatever."[15] He also wrote many potential tracks for Spears and told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show on August 29, 2007 that "[Britney has] gotta remind people why they love her in the first place. She's gotta get their minds off her personal life and back on music."[16]

In January 2007, anonymous insiders at Jive Records accused the album of being unfinished and unfit to sell, though Jive itself has strictly denied those accusations.[17][18]

In December 2006, Sean Garrett spoke about the upcoming album and called it "incredible." He said the seven tracks he had produced were "exciting, aggressive, and fun." He added that her music was "definitely getting back to the basics and trying to make the world dance and sing to her beat."[6] In April 2007, he further commented that, "Her new album is like 'Toxic' times 10. It's going to be a lot of fun and really exciting."[19]

In March, music producer Timbaland stated he would work with Spears on her album once she was out of rehab, as long as she was "serious".[20] Nothing ever materialized.

Producer, Sean Garrett commented in June 2007, "It's uptempo, out of control...it's wowzers, produced by me and Bloodshy. I can't give the title yet, but the record is done and definitely what people want to hear from her."[21]

In an interview in the May/June 2007 issue of Scratch, Nate "Danja" Hills announced he produced a track for Spears that sounds like music from a video game.[2]. According to him, the album is "about feeling good, celebrating womanhood" and not about the recent problems in her personal life.[3]

On June 13, 2007, Spears asked the members of her official fan club to pick the title for the album, via a poll posted on her official web site.[22]

On August 30, the rapper and producer T-Pain confirmed on MTV.com that he produced three songs for Spears' new album, titled "Boyfriend," "Cold as Fire" and "One of a Kind."[23] Later that same day, "Gimme More", Spears' first single was premiered on radio and "Cold as Fire" was leaked on to the internet.[24][25][26]

Spears' collaborator Ne-Yo has just confirmed that he still has two songs for her, which in his statements, she likes. [27]
