Happy New Year Summer, all! I've got an eye on actually doing some article writing soon, although I doubt that it'll actually come to fruition.

About Me

Hello, I'm Sarah, and I'm a 23 year old editor from Leeds, England. My username comes from the Tintin book King Ottokar's Sceptre, a series of which I was a fan during my childhood. I'm a native speaker of British English, which is regrettably the only language I can speak with any degree of understanding. I know an odd smattering of French and German, having taken (but not done particularly well) both subjects during my secondary education. Currently, I am studying at the University of Leeds.

I'm interested in all forms of media, and can appreciate most forms of them, from nearly all genres of music to most genres of literature, film, and television. As of recently, I have become increasingly involved in progressive political activism, mostly transgender, LGB and feminist activism as a queer lesbian trans woman. My editing tends to fall into one of two areas, and I'm particularly interested in expanding Wikipedia's poor coverage of transgender issues and helping to reduce the amount of cisgender, heterosexual and male systemic bias on the encyclopedia. However, I do understand the importance of not letting my queer politics getting in the way and compromising the neutrality of our queer coverage.

I contribute mostly using Safari on Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite, but may use other browsers in public locations. I also have a blog, but I update it rarely and I'm more active on Twitter.

Wiki

From January 2006 to August 2006, I was an administrator of Wikipedia. I currently possess the automatic rollback ability, which I have possessed for several periods of time since its introduction in January 2008, the "reviewer" right, which allows me to mark any pending edits to some articles as legitimate, and the "autopatrolled right, which marks all of my edits as legitimate. I also have contribute to Wikiquote and the Wikimedia Commons sporadically. You are free to look at my logs of my tenure as an editor and administrator.

I value the quality of Wikipedia articles over the quantity. I support merging related articles that aren't particularly well-written or not notable and deleting articles that cannot be improved. I feel that Wikipedia is sometimes too optimistic with regards to article quality and keep some articles that have little chance of improvement. I often do what I think is best for the encyclopedia. I also attempt to be neutral, but in favour of countering systemic bias, with any topic I edit on Wikipedia, despite my political leanings; I feel this is the only way to contribute in areas full of institutional bias.

If you like this design, use it. Most of the page is taken from the Portal skeleton. The small links were inspired by Kyoko, and the icons at the top were inspired by Riana. Conversely, I am always available to do a userpage redesign for you if you ask.

FA creation process

This is my process for creating good and featured episode articles, modelled after The Stolen Earth:

Handwritten notes for Confidential and...
...the BBC7 podcast
  1. Before transmission: Create article
  2. Transmission time: Watch the media in question.
  3. The night after transmission: Listen and watch to companion media to media, and take notes. (See right and below)
  4. The morning after transmission: Start editing synopsis
  5. A day or two after transmission: Add production details
  6. A few days after transmission: Add ratings
  7. A few days after transmission: Visit review sites and include reviews in one fell swoop.
  8. Copyedit and remove original research inserted by other editors
  9. As time progresses, steadily add new information while continuously copyediting:
Add some reviews, a cast member's theory about his character, and some filming locations
    Add some more filming locations
    Add new review
  10. After the FAC, keep adding information when you can find it:
    Add some microformats
Add information from a new book by writer of the episode
    Add public reception
    Add info from DVD commentary
Add info from an analysis book
    Add new interview
Add more filming locations and group them into a reference class
Add new section about public hype
Add new review, minor information, and group another reference class
Done? There may still be improvements to make!
