Hi Pincrete

Thanks for the message about reverting my reversion on Godot. It's so civilised to get a message of explanation!

To be honest I reverted the edit because I felt that the editor who removed the Laurel and Hardy reference didn't 'get the joke' - but you're right, its relevance to Godot is pretty tenuous. Fair enough. Keep up the good work etc. Gravender (talk) 17:36, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Belated

[edit]

Hello Pincrete, belated greetings and apologies for having not turning up to see off the idiotic sock-puppet accusation by Malagurski's groupie. I presume he was up to something like he and the gang of pals always are (Assume good faith unless tedious experience has taught you better, as they say). I hope his little enterprise got seen off in the manner it deserved.

I'm afraid domestic circumstances became too pressing for me to be able to carry on wasting time on the futilities of coping with people like that and there's no prospect of me being able to return to the fray for a long while. I'm very grateful that you still have the energy and determination not to give up on the endless struggle between good and nonsense. Very best wishes, and thanks for all your efforts. Your point of view

[edit]

Hello. I would like your opinion on a few issues, except for the "oligarch" in the Evangelos Marinakis entry.

  • Do you think it is correct that the following should be in the introduction of the entry:Vangelis Marinakis is more widely recognized by the general public due to his involvement in the field of football. As a result of his involvement, his name has been connected to allegations of match-fixing, referee interference, and illegal violence. He was acquitted in all cases in which he was involved. In 2018, he was implicated in the high-profile case of the Noor1 ship, which carried 2.1 tones of heroin. The case closed as no evidence was found against the accused.
  • And if so, why isn't there something similar in these too: Ivan Savvidis, Dimitris Melissanidis, Giannis Alafouzos?
  • For me no article should have these in its introduction. What are they trying to do with the entry of V. Marinakis? To show that he is a criminal and a drug dealer, while the others are innocent pigeons; I would like your opinion, if of course I don't embarrass you.

Montigliani (talk) 10:34, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Montigliani Briefly, firstly, the lead of an article should always be a summary of the body, in this instance although all these topics are covered in the body, this doesn't seem to be a very NPOV summary of the coverage. Second observation is that the other businessmen are fairly irrelevant. Put at its crudest, why aren't Joe Biden's lies covered as much as Donald Trump's? Well either because Biden doesn't get 'caught out' as often, or he simply doesn't lie as often/outrageously. We can't approach it from the PoV that our coverage should be 'equal', though it should apply equal criteria, and since I don't know these other people, I can't really usefully comment as to whether that is the case.
In more detail, "Vangelis Marinakis is more widely recognized by the general public due" more widely recognized than whom? Other businessmen? Other 'press barons'? Who? "As a result of his involvement, his name has been connected to allegations of match-fixing, referee interference, and illegal violence". How are allegations a result of his ownership? Do all owners get accused? It may be true that his name has been linked to these 'crimes', but it isn't necessarily true that they are the result of his ownerships/involvements.
Overall, it reads like a news article about him, rather than a WP article. Simultaneously, it appears that allegations which have been rejected by courts are given prominence, but 'special pleading' is allowed at the same time that these allegations are simply the result of his 'public prominence'. I hope these reactions are helpful, to be honest, I had hardly heard of Marinakis before a few days ago.Pincrete (talk) 11:06, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
While he has been found not guilty, you are judged that these should be in the introduction; then those that are confirmed convictions, why are they not in the introduction of the corresponding articles?
