The fourteenth federal electoral district of Mexico City (Distrito electoral federal 14 de la Ciudad de México; previously "of the Federal District") is one of the 300 electoral districts into which Mexico is divided for elections to the federal Chamber of Deputies and one of the 22 currently operational districts in Mexico City.[1]

It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative session by means of the first-past-the-post system. Votes cast in the district also count towards the calculation of proportional representation ("plurinominal") deputies elected from the fourth region.[2][3]

District territory

[edit]

Under the 2022 districting plan, which will be used for the 2024, 2027 and 2030 federal elections,[4] the fourteenth district covers the northern (urban) portion of the borough (alcaldía) of Tlalpan.[5][1]

Previous districting schemes

[edit]

Under the 2005 districting scheme, the 14th district covered the whole of the borough (delegación) of Tlalpan, with the exception of its northernmost portion, which made up the 5th district. It was one of the city's few rural electoral districts.[6]

Between 1996 and 2005, the district covered the westernmost third of the borough of Iztacalco.[7]

Notes

[edit]
  1. ^ An amendment to Article 52 of the Constitution in 1928 changed the original provision of "one deputy per 60,000 inhabitants" to "one deputy per 100,000";[8][9] as a result, the size of the Chamber of Deputies fell from 281 in the 1928 election to 171 in 1934.[10]
  2. ^ Elected for the PRD but switched to the Citizens' Movement in February 2022.[36]
