This picture was taken facing 149-153 Delaware Avenue. The first section of townhouses shown were built during World War II, and these were renovated in 2008.[1] The second section of townhouses in the distance with the darker hue were also built during World War II, but have not been renovated recently. Most of the townhouses in the community do not seem to have been renovated too much in recent years, but many are still in fairly good condition. The renovated section from 149 to 153 Delaware Avenue shows that modern updates and improvements can be done in a way that still retains the classic look of the community.
A historical marker at Mooncrest Drive and Old Thorn Run Road says the following: "Mooncrest - Designed and built in 1943 by the federal government as defense worker housing. Mooncrest residents produced armor plate, munitions, and ships at the nearby Dravo Corporation during World War II. Operated by U.S. Air Force after 1945; homes sold to private investors in mid 1950s. Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission 2004".
