Adminship

My RFA withdrawal :(

Hello Mysekurity, it is my apologies to bring you that I've withdrawn my RFA. Due to the lack of experience, I would go under admin coaching first before trying again later. I would thank you for your vote in this RFA whether you voted support, oppose or neutral for me. I appericiate your comments (if you do have) you made and I hope to see you here in future. --Terence Ong 05:59, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

I convey my greetings to you on my completion of one year as a wikipedian. Come here, we shall have a party tonight. The biggest laddus have been ordered. --Bhadani 15:23, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Beat ya

Sorry for beating ya. :-) Moe ε 22:32, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you most certainly did ;). I was thinking maybe we—you and I, or a bunch of people—could create a WP:BITE-conforming talk message to leave for new users who nominate themselves that wouldn't be overly harsh, but get the point across. I've spoken to three users recently about waiting a little while before trying to run for Adminship. If you want to start a draft, or if you want me to, just let me know, and we'll work from there. Thanks and see ya around. -Mysekurity 22:42, 24 March 2006 (UTC) (my message was longer, though ;-P)[reply]

P.S. Why is your talk page semi'd? It's been almost two weeks... do you want to try without it?

Sure, I would be happy to work with you (and others if needed) to send new users about adminship requirements. When do you want to get started?
Yes, your message was longer and more informative than mine :-( *egotistically* I could do better than if I wanted. :-D Yeah, so much vandalism to both my user page and talk page landed it with the semi-protection. After two weeks, I'm ready to take on the onslaught of comments now. :-) Moe ε 22:50, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Responding to one thing at a time; I'm heading out in a little while, so maybe we could work on something tomorrow, or if you want to get it started tonight, go for it. Check out my response at Code Napoleon's page, and I'll send you an e-mail that I think worked pretty well. I think the key is to be polite and humerous, but still convey the point. In any event, I'll work on it tomorrow, and send something off to ya. As for the semi-protection, as a sysop, just say the word and I'll turn it off or something. I have my page move-protected so that nobody can put me "ON WHEELS!" or the like. If you continue to recieve vandalism, drop me a line and I'll re-protect it. Happy editing, Mysekurity 23:08, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Tomorrow it is. :-) I don't have e-mail enabled so I guess I'll enable it now. (I never did before because I didn't the vandals that wanted revenge on Wikipedia to send me messages via e-mail). About the protection, I would like it un-semi-protected and move protected if you don't mind doing that for me. Talk to you later! Moe ε 23:27, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks buddy! :-) Moe ε 15:28, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

Hi Mysekurity, and thank you for taking time to vote on my RfA. I understand that my last 6000+ edits were not sufficient to convince you that edits like some of my early ones would never be repeated again, but I sincerely hope that at some point I would be able to convince you of my transformation. Looking forward to working with you in future. Regards, deeptrivia (talk) 03:20, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I completely understand your lack of trust in me provided some comments I made last year. I assure you that those were an aberration, and do not reflect the way I felt towards Islam even at that point, or the way I behave with people normally. When I mentioned my last 6000 edits, I intended to refer to the quality of those edits, not the number. I am sorry that you found the same note on many other user pages, that was because I wished to convey the same message to those editors. If you could spare some time, I request you to kindly go through all my edits since November, and let me know if you find any edit objectionable. You will find a couple of hundred edits on various new stubs/templates/other constructive edits on articles related to Sufism, which has deeply influenced my thinking. Thanks, and I hope you'll forgive me. deeptrivia (talk) 06:20, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your message! Allow me to admit that although it wasn't templated, I copied and pasted the message on talk pages of several users. I'll definitely try to improve the quality of my edits as much as I could, and will try my best to acheive the standards you have for supporting candidates for adminship. Cheers :) deeptrivia (talk) 06:38, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

Admin coaching

Hi! While User:Titoxd is on a Wikibreak, he gave me permission to do some leg-work concerning Esperanza admin coaching. I was curious how your coaching with User:Wikizach is going. If it is finished (or even if it isn't), would you be able to take on another coachee? Don't feel guilty if you don't have the time- I perfectly understand, and wouldn't want anyone feel overworked. Thanks for all your time! EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 04:14, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I just noticed you are also coaching User:Sreed1234. Unless one of the two are completely finished, it's probably not a good idea to overload a single coach with more than two coachees. Let me know, and thanks for all your support of the program! EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 04:20, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response. I wasn't active in Esperanza when the program was initiated, but the point seems to be users who want to be admins getting help and suggestions as far as what they need to do to pass an RfA, what policies they need to know thoroughly to be an admin, etc. As for non-admins chipping in, there are a couple who have coached in the past who are not admins, Jaranda and D-Day, so that is certainly not without precedent. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks again for your response, and I'll let you know if I assign you a coachee. EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 16:29, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Curb vs Kerb

I'd written a long-winded response to your accusatory "fettish" comment, but I have neither the will nor patience to argue with you. Going over the early versions of the article, I deem that this dif is the first major contributor, and clearly writes using Commonwealth spelling, and as such, I must format the article using the Commonwealth dialect. Happy editing, Mysekurity [m!] 21:28, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
I do apologise for my use of the word fetish. I meant it in the sense of "excessive or irrational devotion to some activity"[1] and I didn't intend for you to take offense at it. I've just been noticing a lot lately that editors are replacing links to redirects -- not double redirects, just plain fully-functional single redirects. According to Wikipedia:Redirect#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken this is completely unnecessary. So I was honestly wondering why you, and the other editors, do it. Hey! you're welcome!

Common Criticisms of Mozilla Firefox is jsut a vanity article by jealous people too stupid to understand proper HTML, or hate pages that render properly in every browser but Internet Explorer. It not only contains NOTHING of the truth, but it does not cite sources, and it is biased.

As for being a Pansexual...well, i just consider myself open to anyone willing to be in a relationship with me.

To be honest, i don't know why i've stuck around wikipedia since joining last year...even the administrators are breaking their own rules in front of each other and everyone else... oh well.

That's my point of view.

Hey there, ClockworkSoul! I know I haven't talked to you in a while, but I was wondering if you could help me with something. For some time now, I've been displeased with my username, and wanted to change it up to something different. I'd gone over to Essjay's page, and the ever-so-kind Talrias chipped in that I might want to talk with you, regarding your name change. I've seen several cases like yours; Lifeisunfair --> David Levy, and a couple others that I can't remember right now. Despite my seive of a mind, I'd still like to ask for your assitance in helping me chose a new name. Talrias suggested that I have a "name the admin" contest, but I'm not sure how many people would turn up, as I haven't exactly been active for the last few months. In any event, if you'd get back to me on this subject, it'd be greatly appreciated, and I'll thank you evermore. -Mysekurity [m!] 22:09, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

A "name the admin" contest would be great for you. :) Unfortunately, you won't be able to carry your edits over, but that's really no big deal. First, take a look at my old Name the Admin Candidate page, which might give you some leads. The next hurdle is publicity, of course. While I had the benefit of an RfA, you have the advantage of a much larger user base than I. I recommend that you do the following:
  1. Place a notice and cheerful request for some publicity on the Esperanza talk page. They;re always looking for a projects like this one to help the community morale.
  2. Choose at least ten people you know might be interested, and leave them a note regarding the contest on the user page. Make sure that one of those people is User:Can't sleep, clown will eat me, because for some odd reason everybody has his page on their watchlist.
  3. Finally, a quick note on the Administrators' noticeboard would not be inappropriate, and may be helpful as well.
I'll be happy to help in any way you need, so feel free to drop me a line! Good luck! – ClockworkSoul 22:35, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You actually could carry your edits over, so long as you don't have more than about 20,000 (just make sure not to make the account until a bureaucrat does it for you on Wikipedia:Changing username. Ral315 (talk) 08:02, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

VandalProof 1.1 is Now Available For Download

Happy Easter to all of you, and I hope that this version may fix your current problems and perhaps provide you with a few useful new tools. You can download version 1.1 at User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof. Let me warn you, however, to please be extremely careful when using the new Rollback All Contributions feature, as, aside from the excessive server lag it would cause if everyone began using it at once, it could seriously aggitate several editors to have their contributions reverted. If you would like to experiment with it, though, I'd be more than happy to use my many sockpuppets to create some "vandalism" for you to revert. If you have any problems downloading, installing, or otherwise, please tell me about them at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs and I will do my best to help you. Thanks. Why did you move it without posting something on the talk page? If you look through the history, you'll see it has been moved twice in the last month. I am personally pretty indifferent to how the article is named and think that it is now at the proper name (MMORPG), but there are many comments in the archived talk about it and a few editors along the way who have moved it (generally without asking anyone either). So, could you post your rationale on the talk page? --Habap 13:33, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I ran your JS and quickly fixed those bugs using JS console, so it was no problem. Since your JS worked for me, it should be running now for you.
