Rono, formerly known as Awkward Bong, is the stage name of Ronit Sarkar, a Mumbai-based singer-songwriter known for his distinctive voice and creative vision in the Indian indie music scene.[1] His music spans genres like indie pop and folk, characterized by introspective lyrics and unique musical arrangements.

Career

Rono gained prominence with his indie hit 'Main Aur Tum[2]' and has since performed at major music festivals including Bacardi NH7 Weekender (Pune 2015)[3] and Vans New Wave Festival (Bangalore 2015, Delhi 2016). His artistic journey extends internationally with notable experiences at the RTX Project Artist Residency in Sri Lanka (2016) and the International Writers Camp in the Netherlands (2017).

Recognition

Rono's talent has garnered attention from various media outlets such as Vh1 India's Music Diaries, Rolling Stone India[4], and IndiEarth. His work has been featured in Ennui.Bomb's "Stupiditties" indie compilations[5] and utilized in advertising campaigns for brands like Tinder.

Currently, Rono continues to innovate, focusing on creating new music and developing immersive visual elements to complement his evolving soundscapes. His recent projects include the EP 'Postcards'[6][7] and singles like 'All Afternoon'[8], which have received positive reviews and acclaim within the indie music community.
