The French language is not widely spoken in Croatia, as Croatian is the official and predominant language of the country.

The decline of demand for traditional French chanson since 1990s has affected the status of French in Croatia.[citation needed] English is most commonly spoken foreign language, in terms of tourism, trade and the still dominant American culture which outperformed the popularity of French culture. Despite the limited presence of the French language in the country, France and Croatia have signed an agreement almost 30 years ago in order to promote and enhance cultural cooperation.

In general, there is an existing, but niche enthusiasm towards French culture and products (such as Baguettes, Brie cheese, Renault cars).[citation needed] In fact, due to an increasing interest in French language learning globally and in Croatia as well, some educational institutions and language centers in Croatia offer French language courses for students and individuals interested in acquiring language skills for travel, work, or cultural reasons. These courses are more common in major cities and tourist destinations where the demand for foreign language education is higher.[1]

There is an institution named Alliance Française‎ of which is also present in Croatia.
