Writing an article for a 92 year old[edit]

My mother, 92, asked me to post about books she has written about cancer to memorialize her work. I got tagged as COI, but she is not able to add the content (lack of computer knowledge), so can I act on her behalf to add an article about her books?Pottsy108amy (talk) 01:28, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pottsy108amy. Please take a look at Wikipedia:The answer to life, the universe, and everything, Wikipedia:Notability (people) (particularly this part), Wikipedia:Notability (books) and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not a blog, web hosting service, social networking service, or memorial site for more detailed information. Basically, whether a Wikipedia article about your mother or her books can be created by anyone is going to depend on if she or the books considered to be notable per Wikipedia's standards for inclusion. Please note that Wikipedia defines "notability" in a very specific way and this is somewhat explained in the pages I linked to above. If you still have questions after reading through those pages, feel free to seek assistance here or at the Wikipedia:Teahouse, and someone will try and answer them for you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:38, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

CAPTCHA[edit]

I am saying that CAPTCHA is a little inappropriate because if someone spells it wrong, everyone cares. I am very upset with CAPTCHA and I hope it doesn't affect peoples editing again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.66.95.167 (talk) 09:11, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Does Wikipedia ever use CAPTCHAs before editing or signing up for an account? I've never come across this.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 09:50, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ianmacm, the WP admins have occasionally turned on CAPTCHA verification for all IP users (or maybe for all non-autoconfirmed users) during times of intense vandalism. 73.127.147.187 (talk) 06:16, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I meant to put this reply below; it's out if place, sorry. 73.127.147.187 (talk) 06:17, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ianmacm: AFAIK Wikipedia uses CAPTCHA in two places: 1) when non-autoconfirmed editors try to add a new external link (including reverts) and 2) on the signup page, to prevent automated systems from creating many accounts. 173.66.95.167, if the CAPTCHA's are problematic for you, I'd say you create an acccount (which also has other adventages) or request one, if CAPTCHA's are completely unsolvable for you, and then work your way towards autoconfirmed status (which requires being registere for 4 days and having made at least 10 edits). Reliable Source[edit]

Hi Everyone. I'm trying to locate a reliable source that will allow me to introduce content into the article Henny Penny. It can be found here: Season 6, Episode 26 of the Golden Girls. The last episode of the season. As you can see, it clearly states a reference to "In Popular Culture", but I'm having difficulty finding reliable sources, since WP won't allow cross referencing or IMDB: [[1]]. I did find these, but they are not considered reliable either: [Penny], [Feathered Friends]. My question is: in the section [Popular References] on the Henny Penny WP page, every content line is sourced by YouTube clips referencing lyrics. If my sources are deemed "unreliable". Why couldn't I simply source a YouTube clip from the Golden Girls showing the scene where they put on the play? Thanks! Maineartists (talk) 13:14, 3 April 2022 (UTC) My apologies. For some reason the "Fine Feather Friends" link is coming up "Page Not Found". It can be found here: [Golden Girls Fashion] and clicking on Season 6. Thank you.[reply]

Maineartists I don't edit a lot of TV related articles but I do know that when writing a plot summary of a book, film, or TV show, no source is needed as the plot can be confirmed by watching/reading the subject itself. Seems to me that as long as you can cite the specific episode nothing else is needed. 331dot (talk) 13:17, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, 331dot. I seem to remember that plot summaries do not require inline citations; so I'm not quite sure if that applies to this particular content inclusion. Most "Popular Reference" now require each line to be sourced. I thought as well simply stating the Season and Episode was enough, but I guess not. Hoping others will have ideas. BTW, I really like your work at WP. Maineartists (talk) 13:54, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Note that WP:POPCULTURE says Cultural references about a subject (for example how it is presented in a movie, song, television show, etc.) should not be included simply because they exist. Rather, all such references should be discussed in at least one reliable secondary or tertiary source which specifically links the cultural item to the subject of the article. This source should cover the subject of the article in some depth; it should not be a source about the cultural item which merely mentions the subject. ColinFine (talk) 15:05, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. I know this, ColinFine. I'm not sure that applies to my content. You'll need to actually look at the section. The listed references are songs lyrics that merely mention "Henny Penny" with YouTube clips. From what you have supplied, the entire section should be scrubbed. At least the Episode of Golden Girls completely devotes an entire story line to the Fairytale. I think this constitutes allowance for entry. I'm quite sure the reference "Fine Feather Friends" complies with your requirement. If not, a simple Google search of the episode would also comply with your demand. Could you please find one that suits what you believe WP would allow rather than citing WP policy? Thanks. Maineartists (talk) 15:31, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not here to argue off topic whether or not this is content for entry in a "Popular Culture" section. I would like to know why WP allows content to be added here: Golden Girls Season 6: Henny Penny Episode 26 without a source, but will not allow the entry to be placed in the section at Penny In Popular Reference? I did place a source that was secondary: Golden Girls Fashion: Season 6 "Henny Penny" that describes in detail the episode. But it was also reverted. Thanks. Editing the TOP of a long wikipedia page from a mobile phone without editing the whole entire thing[edit]

Is there a way to edit ONLY THE TOP of a long wikipedia page from a mobile phone without editing the whole entire thing? Editing the entire page of a long article from a mobile phone will crash my browser. Thanks, and please {{ping}} me when you reply. --Jax 0677 (talk) 14:15, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Jax 0677: If the preference to allow editing the lead section (Gadgets -> Appearance) doesn't work in mobile, you could either switch to desktop mode (superior unless you have a small phone; I never use mobile mode on my phone) or try to edit a different section, then edit the URL to "action=edit&section=0". —Kusma (talk) 14:31, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Mobile mode will never load a full page to edit in source mode in my experience. I'd suggest this is being done in desktop mode, where the above is the best solution. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 17:17, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My edit got deleted.[edit]

Hello I have owned 3 horses of the breed Dølahest for many years and have bred a foal. The information on the Wikipedia page about the breed is incorrect in many ways and I edited it to be factually correct. However my edit was deleted because I didn't source my information and reference it. Because I am a primary source as an owner and breeder. Also everything I wrote can be found on the website nhest.no which is the Norwegian horse registration authority for all breeds in Norway and on links from there to the breed specific pages. I do not know how to reference facts that I know from experience to be true and the website is in Norwegian which not many people can read. The English information in book is wrong and keeps being repeated over and over because incorrect printed sources are used as references from the past to make new horse books. I can find links to each Norwegian document on the breed standard etc but now my edit has been removed do I need to write it all over again or what? I'm thinking the best thing is to hand write it and completely delete and start again. I tried to keep a lot of the original work to save time and just correct the wrong information. What to do ? Its very weird looking to write on the edit page which is probably one reason nobody has done it before and with everyone having to do it in their second language I guess nobody has bothered previously. Kind Regards Sara Lowe — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.69.157.8 (talk) 14:55, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This edit was reverted because it introduced original research. Most people here probably aren't experts on Dølehest horses, but introducing changes like this would require a reliable source, as the reverting editor Em-mustapha pointed out in the edit summary.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 15:15, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, re the website is in Norwegian which not many people can read: note that WP:NONENGLISH sources are okay, as long as they are still a reliable source. Umimmak (talk) 17:21, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You may retrieve your edits by using the "view history" button. Once you have done that, use the Norwegian site as your reference. If necessary, rewrite your contribution to make sure that it contains only information from your reference and nothing from your personal knowledge that is not in the reference. Also make sure that your contribution is not written so as to give the impression that it is from your personal knowledge. And THANKS! we need your expertise, because an expert can generally do a better job at interpreting a reference to produce an encyclopedic article. -Arch dude (talk) 17:34, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
All info on WP must be verifiable by all readers. This is why your own knowledge is not "acceptable" without a published source, as odd as that might seem. 73.127.147.187 (talk) 06:22, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How to undo a bot-initiated archiving of a DRN?[edit]

Because of a lull in exchanges, a bot archived a DRN that was in progress and had not reached a resolution or been closed by the moderator. The moderator has been away for three days or so and another editor suggested the DRN can be "un-archived". I'm willing to wait for the moderator's return but would prefer to reinstate the DRN now so that I can add comments. Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thanks. User:Allreet, User:Randy Kryn, User:Casualdejekyll - There is a hidden magic Do Not Archive Before date in a DRN case. If there is no discussion for 48 hours AND the date has been passed, a bot archives the discussion. I have copied the dispute out of the archive back to the noticeboard, and have extended the Do Not Archive date. But my question for the moderator is: Is this case still in progress? If so, what are the next steps for the editors? The bot was expecting some activity from someone, and the editors seem to have been expecting some activity from someone. Draft decline vs reject[edit]

When a draft is submitted but not moved into mainspace, I have seen two things that may be at the top:

  1. A "Draft declined on ... by ..." message on the top with a button to submit it again.
  2. A "Draft rejected" with a red STOP sign on the right and no submit button.

What are the differences between these two? I.hate.spam.mail.here (talk | contributions) 22:16, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Declined means that the reviewer thinks that an article is possible, if it is suitably improved. Rejected means that the reviewer does not believe that the article can be made acceptable, usually because they have determined that the subject does not meet the criteria for WP:notability. See WP:WikiProject Articles for creation/Acceptance criteria. ColinFine (talk) 22:48, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Production companies[edit]

Is there an SNG for production companies (i.e. film companies, record labels, podcast networks) that I've missed somehow? I'm asking because I'm looking into improving a few pages for podcast networks (I was recently working on Luminary (podcast network) and QCode), and notability has come up as an issue a few times. Particularly, for Talk:QCode#Notability, Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Bald_Move, and now Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/All_Things_Comedy. I've been on both sides of the keep/delete argument and I'm legitimately interested in following Wikipedia guidelines, but I've been unclear what the guidelines are in this case. I know that notability generally isn't WP:INHERITED, however, there are instances like WP:NENTERTAINER where a person can be notable because they played a major role in multiple notable productions. Is there something similar for production companies where a production company is notable because it has produced multiple notable shows? I'm also curious what the differentiation is between a company and its products. I voted to delete Bald Move on the basis that the coverage was only of its podcasts not of the company itself, but in the end the page was kept. I'm not sure if that's because the coverage was deemed an appropriate amount of coverage of the company or if it was deemed okay to have coverage of the podcasts instead of the company. Can I demonstrate notability for a production company by providing sources that discuss the company's shows? I've also noticed a lot of pages for production companies end up essentially becoming list articles that contain wikilinks to their shows. Sometimes these lists contain short paragraphs for each show such as WNYC Studios and Maximum Fun while other times they adopt a list or table format such as All Things Comedy or Parcast. Would WP:NLIST apply in these cases or would it be appropriate to move the page to something like "List of Parcast shows"? TipsyElephant (talk) 15:21, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not particularly experienced in this area, but wouldn't Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) be applicable? A production company is not its productions, it's just a company. -- R. S. Shaw (talk) 20:37, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why is there a rule in Russian Wikipedia that is Russian racism?[edit]

There is a rule in Russian wikipedia, which is a Russian racist thing, that implies that Ukraine is not a country, but just a part of Russia - it shows that it is correct to say not "in Ukraine" but "on Ukraine". According to the rules of the Russian language: "on *some territory*" refers only to areas of the country, not to a separate country. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GoldNotGod (talk • contribs) 15:43, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Because that's the correct idiomatic expression in the Russian language? I don't speak Russian, but it's like that in Czech: "na Ukrajině", and "na Slovensku" as well. – filelakeshoe (t / c) 🐱 16:16, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's difficult to say whether such a point is some sort of ideology (although I would say that the term "racism" is here rather carelessly used) or just some peculiarity of grammar. I do know that in the German language, when you go to a country, you go "nach" most countries--nach Deutschland (Germany), nach Frankreich (France). But there are a few countries--their names are grammatically feminine, and you do use the article "die" before them--when you go to those countries, you go "in" those countries--in die Schweiz (Switzerland), in die Turkei (Turkey). I don't think it reflects any common attitudes or national ideology. Uporządnicki (talk) 18:29, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Band name error[edit]

Hello-

When you do a search for the band Mista on Bing, the Wikipedia page shows band the name as "Moist" which is incorrect. At first I thought it was some sort of prank, but there is actually another band named Moist. But please correct the name to Mista for the 4 membered band.

107.206.188.134 (talk) 02:08, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has articles on both Mista (band) and Moist (band). I can't see any obvious issues with the name of either, though Mista (band) could do with more sources. If Bing is getting the two bands confused, you need to raise it with them - we have no control over what external search engines do. AndyTheGrump (talk) 02:13, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The text paragraph followed by "Wikipedia" is taken from Wikipedia. The heading "Moist" is added by Bing, probably based on some non-public search algorithm. Below the Bing box there is a link "Suggest an edit". Suggestions go to Bing, not Wikipedia. We have no control over Bing. Our article Mista (band) does not mention Moist. It seems uncontroversial to me, and I can make the change in you like. However, consider the guidance at WP:COI, the article shouldn't be written from the perspective of your org (I'm not saying it is, I haven't checked). Help with a timeline[edit]

Display error on SVG, don't know how to correct...[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

See Flag of Solomon Islands, File:Flag of the Solomon Islands.svg, and https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/74/Flag_of_the_Solomon_Islands.svg . Only in the third one do all 5 stars display for me. In every rendering and in every article it is used EXCEPT the raw image file, it only shows the top 3 stars. The last one shows that the five stars are intended to render. How can this be fixed? If it is happening to me, it is happening to someone else, so this is likely something that needs to be fixed in the image itself... --Jayron32 14:52, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the Commons file history, a version of the flag with three stars was uploaded in 2014 (and replaced an earlier version with 5 stars). If the 5 star version is correct, a version of it should be re-uploaded on Commons. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:16, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The three-star version is the five-star version. The way SVG graphics are rendered, it looks like in many renderings, the bottom two stars get "chopped off". This is a technical issue with the SVG graphics; if it can be fixed to stop happening, that would be best, since normally SVG graphics scale better for all displays; unlike things like jpgs and other bitmap graphics, which don't necessarily scale nicely. Maybe an old .svg version needs to be restored, but I'm not a very experienced Commons user, and someone more experienced than me probably needs to help with that. --Jayron32 15:21, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jayron32: That flag .svg is used all over the place and looks OK in all the cases I've looked at. Is it possible the issue is in your browser and you need to clear your cache? See WP:BYC Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:04, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Michael D. Turnbull: It appears that the correct version was reuploaded to commons yesterday. Based on the user having been here for a while I would assume it was simply a mistake (although I don't know much about how SVGs work so maybe they intentionally removed those stars). ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 13:18, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Blaze Wolf Ah, yes! I looked at the file history but didn't spot that the current version had only just been uploaded. The five-star version seems correct according to external sources, so I don't know why that file on Commons has been 3-star since 2014.... Most of those in the commons:Category:SVG flags of the Solomon Islands have five stars. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:35, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I just want to be clear, it wasn't that a "Three star version was uploaded". It was that "A five star version was uploaded that in many contexts, but not all, displayed as three stars". As noted, it looks like this has been fixed now. --Jayron32 13:53, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Table coloring[edit]

I'm trying to get rid of the No. column in List of ATP number 1 ranked singles tennis players#ATP No. 1 ranked singles players. (Who cares if McEnroe was the fifth first-time no. 1?) However, when I delete e.g. "!1 || scope="row" style="text-align: left;"|", the blue background color disappears too. What gives? Clarityfiend (talk) 03:24, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Just going to point out that someone might care about that column since it was added at one point; so, you may have to resolve any disagreements over it via talk page discussion. Maybe asking about it at WT:TENNIS might be a good idea just to see whether it's a WikiProject convention or just unique to that particular article or one particular person. For example, that also seems to be the table format used for List of ATP number 1 ranked doubles tennis players. As for your question about the coloring for the players in the table, I think it might have to do (and this is just a guess) with your deleting of the syntax ! which is I believe is needed to tell the software to add a new row to the table. Try only deleting 1 || scope="row" style="text-align: left;"| and see whether that gets things where you want them. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:33, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Not worth the bother of starting a discussion, though. Clarityfiend (talk) 10:47, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, it was added in 2009 [3], the article has around 6000 edits since then with nobody trying to remove it as far as I know, it's in all similar tennis articles (men and women, singles and doubles), and also in other sports, e.g. List of world number one male golfers#Number one ranked men and List of world number one snooker players#List of players. I would have opposed removal and would be very surprised if it got consensus. Don't assume nobody cares about something just because you don't care. Completing Wiki's Template: Non-free use rationale logo/doc and uploading image Wiki file: RAAF25SQNCrestFromRAAFBrandManager15Feb22.png[edit]

Dear Wiki Help Desk

I have endeavoured to read and properly understand the Wiki pages related to the above and as a result:

1. What follows at 3. below is my attempt to correctly complete in draft form the relevant headings on Wiki's "Template: Non-free use rationale logo/doc", the template which Mr Martin Fisher of Wiki's Volunteer Response Team suggested (by his email on 5 Mar 22) suggested I complete in order to insert the RAAF's official unit badge (aka squadron Crest) for No. 25 Squadron onto Wiki's No.25 Squadron RAAF webpage.

I request your advice as to whether my draft info for each heading is acceptable to successfully complete and submit the "Template: Non-free use rationale logo/doc" (See headings and and answers at 3. below.)

2. As a separate exercise I have also uploaded onto Wiki the official image provided to me by the RAAF of 25 Squadron's unit badge (ie its official Crest) by using Wiki's main upload file and selecting "The copyright holder gave me permission to use this work only in Wikipedia's articles" option (as per the Other Information heading below) but after doing so there was a warning which said "This media file, which you just uploaded, has been listed for speedy deletion........."

File:RAAF25SQNCrestFromRAAFBrandManager15Feb22.png
No. 25 Squadron RAAF Unit Badge

Any advice or help re the success of my uploading would be appreciated.

3.My proposed answers to the required headings on "Template: Non-free use rationale logo/doc" are:

Proposed heading for NFCC template

Article = No. 25 Squadron RAAF

Use = RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force)Wiki's "Template: Non-free use rationale logo/doc"'

Purpose = Official RAAF Unit Badge (aka squadron Crest) of No. 25 Squadron RAAF

Used for = Official RAAF Unit Badge (aka squadron Crest) in-Service and public identification of No. 25 Squadron RAAF

Owner = All Royal Australian Air Force badges, current and historic, are protected as defence emblems under section 83 of the Defence Act (Australia) 1903. As such use of a defence emblem by any person requires written authorisation of the (Australian) Minister for Defence or his/her authorised delegate.

Description = Official RAAF Unit Badge (aka squadron Crest) of No. 25 Squadron RAAF.

History = It is currently and has been the official RAAF Unit Badge (aka squadron Crest) of No. 25 Squadron RAAF since at least 1960

Source = The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF)

Portion = The entire Unit Badge (aka squadron Crest) of No. 25 Squadron RAAF) as provided by the RAAF is used to convey the meaning intended and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the intended image.

Low resolution = ?

Replaceability = Because it is a non-free, copyright protected logo, there is almost certainly no free representation. Any substitute that is a non- derivative work would fail to convey the meaning intended, would tarnish or misrepresent its image, or would fail its purpose of identification or commentary.

Other information = On Tuesday, 15 February 2022, the RAAF Brand Manager, Department of Defence, Canberra, ACT, Australia) considered and formally approved as an appointed delegate of the Minister for Defence (Australia) pursuant to the Defence Act (Australia) 1903, Wiki User Shellac41's request to insert the official RAAF Unit Badge (aka squadron Crest) of No. 25 Squadron RAAF onto Wiki Encyclopedia's No. 25 Squadron RAAF. The delegate's written authorisation was ″to display he 25 Squadron badge in its entirety and original form on the Wikipedia entry for the squadron only″ with the added comment that: ″A screen resolution file of this badge, suitable for the requested use is attached for this single purpose.

Thank you, Wiki User Shellac41 (talk) 08:14, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, there can be multiple restrictions on the use of images. On Wikipedia, the most relevant one is copyright, which (very roughly speaking) means the right of an author or copyright holder to restrict the diffusion of a creative work they made. There can be other non-copyright restrictions, but those are usually less important for us; for instance, article 83 of that Australian piece of legislation forbids wearing military emblems (and supplying them, and...) unless authorized to do so, but Wikipedia publishing a photograph probably does not violate that ("emblem" means a physical badge/uniform/etc, not a web page).
There are two ways to include images in Wikipedia articles in a copyright-compliant way. The first one is to have an appropriate license (more on that later). The second one is to use a copyright law exception (fair use in the US, though most jurisdictions have something similar, where you can reuse some material in a context of critical commentary/education), and furthermore the image with very tight self-imposed constraints.
It seems you tried first to go through option 1 (obtain a license) but failed, because the text you copied here is not an appropriate license. We do not accept licensing with strings attached, such as "for page X only" or "for Wikipedia use only". Per WP:COPYOTHERS: If you want to import media (...) you can only do so if it is public domain or available under terms that are compatible with the CC BY-SA license. CC BY-SA means, in simple terms, anyone can reuse it for any purpose as long as they cite the source, do not imply endorsement, and obey non-copyright restrictions (so for instance, having the file on Wikipedia as CC BY-SA would not allow cosplayers to wear the emblem on a costume, because that would violate a non-copyright restriction). Going forward, I would suggest you still try to have your contact release an appropriate license, but make sure they have understood what this means. (The first three paragraphs of Wikipedia:Requesting_copyright_permission are a good explanation.)
If that fails, then we fall back on option 2 (which means, publishing the image regardless of the copyright holder’s consent). For that purpose, the details you listed above are mostly appropriate, except that
  1. "Source": you can fill in more details (instead of "RAAF", "RAAF brand manager, email from (date)")
  2. "Low resolution": should be "yes", and the image should be downgraded to low resolution. The RAAF presumably agrees to whatever resolution they provided, but we have a self-imposed rule (WP:NFCC 3.b) that requires non-free images to be bad, so that reusers cannot conveniently use them. There is no hard-and-fast rule, but basically it means the lowest resolution possible that still allows to discern the features of the represented object.
  3. "Other information": We do not care about the RAAF’s licensing text (since we are not relying on that to put up the image)

How do i write biography of someone[edit]

Talk page archiving[edit]

A few hours ago, Lowercase sigmabot III added five discussions to my talk page archive [4] but did not remove them from my talk page. @DanCherek: I haven't found a cause. Maybe it was just some temporary glitch. Try reverting the archive and see what happens in the next bot run, probably tomorrow. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:16, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for advice from an experienced editor[edit]

Symbol redirect vote2.svg Courtesy link: AccessiBe

I have been watching a corporate page for some time now to make sure no one tries to use Wikipedia as a vehicle for promotion. I feel that this particular company is dishonest and does damage to a cause I get a lot about. I did my best to try and clean it up and they sort of went to war with me. Still, I don't really know the finer points of Wikipedia policy so it wasn't easy. We went back and forth for a while until I got some help from more experienced editors who went in and cleaned their page up considerably. Anyway, this company has recently added a "products" section that has no citations that reads a lot like promotional material. It feels wrong but I don't know how to properly address it, or if it needs addressing. The page is Accessibe. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:3D08:F17E:500:D9CB:E494:6788:4B4 (talk) 13:49, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Folks!! An RFC has just closed at Talk:Asquith Xavier. Can somebody please have a squint at it and decide what the consensus is. Thanks. scope_creepTalk

@Scope creep: The RFC closer should have noted the consensus. Did that not happen? RudolfRed (talk) 18:37, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Scope creep: I'd recommend listing this at WP:ANRFC, where you're likely to (eventually) attract an experienced closer. When legobot removed the RfC tag, that wasn't really a "close". Others can continue contributing or even re-add the rfc tag. WP:RFCEND has more info. Firefangledfeathers (talk | contribs) 19:14, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Were any changes recently made to the Wikipedia font?[edit]

Were any changes recently made to the Wikipedia font? When I read an article, the font appears normal. When I go to edit an article ... and I am in the "edit page" mode ... there is some strange, new font. Is this something new? Or perhaps I inadvertently changed some setting in my personal account, somehow? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 18:17, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't noticed any font change. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 20:05, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely a change (on my computer). The new font (in the "Edit Page Mode") is very small ... much harder to see. Plus, it's a different style font, altogether. Is there a way to adjust my settings, to get the "old" font back? Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 20:29, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have code to change the edit styling in User:PrimeHunter/vector.css so I don't know whether the default has changed but maybe you can use some of the code to get a look you like. You can preview your CSS with code to see how it looks without saving. Toggle the "<>" code editor icon at the top left to view the CSS page like a wiki page and not a CSS page.
