Autopatrolled is a user right given to prolific creators of clean articles and pages in order to reduce the workload of New Page Patrol. Articles and pages created by autopatrolled editors are automatically marked as "reviewed" or "patrolled" in the system. This removes those pages from new article lists and feeds designated for manual review and patrolling. It does not change how an editor creates articles, nor any aspect of the experience, user interface, or the ability for an editor to create or modify pages. It provides the user with no additional technical abilities. The differences with the article creation process between users with and without the autopatrolled user right is outlined and detailed below:

• Normal process: An editor without the autopatrolled right creates a page. The page is listed at Special:NewPagesFeed as "unreviewed", and is highlighted at Special:NewPages in yellow and not marked as "patrolled". A patroller, as part of the New Page Patrol process, reviews the article for issues such as violations of Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, copyright violations, biography of living persons violations, conflicts of interest, and advertising. After this manual review is completed, the reviewer will mark the page as "reviewed" or "patrolled".
• Autopatrolled process: An editor with the autopatrolled right creates a page. The page is automatically listed at Special:NewPagesFeed as "reviewed", and automatically listed at Special:NewPages as "patrolled" and not highlighted in yellow. A human patroller does not need to review the page, as it has already been marked as "reviewed" and "patrolled" automatically by the MediaWiki software.

Additionally:

• New articles are normally hidden from search engines until they are patrolled. But when an autopatrolled user creates an article it is immediately eligible for indexing by search engines.
• Non-article pages – for example templates, user essays, and Files – may also be patrolled though the mechanisms are not identical to articles.
• Autopatrolled was formerly referred to as autoreviewer, which is still the technical name of the user group.

Obtaining the right

You can request the right at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled or from an administrator who is familiar with your work. Administrators may also assign the right to themselves. Autopatrolled is typically given to trusted editors who regularly create articles and demonstrate familiarity with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially those on biographies of living persons, copyrights, verifiability and notability. A suggested standard is the prior creation of 25 valid articles, not including redirects or disambiguation pages, but the right is not normally given to very new editors regardless of the number of articles created.

• Autopatrolled does not give one the ability to mark pages as reviewed, or patrolled; one must apply for the new page reviewer right at PERM in order to do this.
• If you know an experienced editor with a reliable history of creating "clean" articles, feel free to request the right for them.
• Administrators may grant the user right to anyone at their discretion if they feel that the user's page creations are prolific; this reduces the workload of patrollers. In these cases, they are free to assign the user right without a formal request or discussion beforehand.
• Administrators may also decline to grant the right at their discretion, even if the numerical requirements are met, if they believe that a user's page creations could benefit from going through the new page patrol process.

There are currently 4,555 users with the autopatrolled right.
