A new source on Cerebral Folate Deficiency[edit]

Good evening, David! I came across a new review article about Cerebral folate deficiency - in your opinion, is this review good enough to be cited/quoted in the CFD article? Review: PMID 30916789 Hope you are doing fine! Cheers from Russia, ---CopperKettle 14:52, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

Definitely a valid ref, and provides info to improve the CFD article. David notMD (talk) 16:37, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

Minimal Niacin dose for intramuscular injection enough for a flushing[edit]

Thank you for your edits of Niacin. There was a minimal dose specified to produce flushing. However, it was not specified whether it was an oral dose or IM/IV dose. Probably the oral one. If so, we should clarify that. Do you have a good source at hand? Also, it seems that for IM/IV path, even doses as small as 10 mg are enough to produce flushing. Don't you know where can we find the source for that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maxim Masiutin (talk • contribs) 20:00, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

In a country where I live (Republic of Moldova), nicotinic acid is only available in pharmacies, as a separate substance, in injectable form only. The oral form is only available in small doses as a vitamin-B complex together with other vitamins. In Russia, situation is the same - the main form is injectable, albeit the tablets of nicotinic acid are avaialable as a serarate substance, the injectable form is more widespread. That's why I have asked to you emphasize on the form of niacin. By the way, I have substantially edited the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CYP4F2 today. Could you please review it, maybe you may have some ideas on how can I improve it? Thank you very much in advance for your feedback. -- Maxim Masiutin (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:38, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

Myles Moylan[edit]

Thank you for replying to me. I don't have an obituary but I previously submitted a piece that was published in the Tuam Herald newspaper on July 22nd, 1876 to congratulate Tuam man, Major Myles Moylan, on his 'providential escape' at the Battle of the Little Bighorn less than a month previously. His brother and nephews who were living in Tuam at the time were mentioned by name. It wasn't acceptable as proof that Myles was from Tuam. The Tuam Herald piece is attached to Myles's brother John on Myles's Findagrave page <Findagrave ></https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/169515151/john-moylan>. Riboflavin DYK?[edit]

Hi David and congratulations on doing most of the heavy lifting to get riboflavin to GA status.

Do you usually propose a DYK when you take articles to that point? I like to do them with my (few) new articles and since science is underrepresented at DYK, I think it would be a good idea here. As to suggestions for the hook, maybe something about it being one cause of the yellow color of urine would attract attention? Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:08, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

Michael D. Turnbull I have done DYKs for most of my GAs (see my Talk page for list), and coincidently was thinking that urine color change wold draw views. I will keep you posted on progress. David notMD (talk) 15:35, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

about wikipedia page question[edit]

So my wikipedia page got deleted. I'm confused. I copied it to be just like my writer friend's page and did the same formatting and worded it along the same lines. She showcases her work/books/movies. I did the same thing with published article links to various magazines etc. Do I have to get someone else to write my page for me? I guess that's my question. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Diannaippolito (talk • contribs) 19:32, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

Diannaippolito: First, you composed in the wrong place. Drafts get created as drafts (seeWP:YFA), not on User pages, and are then submitted to Articles for Creation (AfC) for review. Second, WP:BLP requires that all fact statements be properly referenced. Third - other stuff exists. Among the six million plus articles in English Wikipedia, tens of thousands merit deletion. Autobiography is frowned upon but not forbidden. See WP:AUTO. You can attempt to write about yourself, but all information must cite reliable source references. It's truth plus verification. Listing your published stuff is useful, but in Wikipedialand, DOES NOT confirm notability. What is essential is to have published articles to cite that are about you. In Wikipedialand it is even possible for a book to be article worthy but not the author. Hope this all helps. David notMD (talk) 21:00, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Riboflavin[edit]

Updated DYK query.svg

On 29 December 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Riboflavin, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that consuming the vitamin riboflavin in large amounts will cause urine to have a bright yellow color? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Riboflavin. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Riboflavin), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Saulo Oliveira S.[edit]

The article Saulo Oliveira S. must not be deleted as long as some wiki editors are confusing the email name of a fan (prince contact) with a possible member of the biographer's team, which is not true. There is no conflict of interest and the page is not autobiographical. About the page is orphaned, improvements will be made in the next few hours to adjust the link. It is intended to improve the page by adding even more reliable sources. Therefore the page will be improved and should not be deleted.

Please remove the page from the delete possibility. The work to build an article is arduous and this has been a personal journey of writing and learning, for someone with no connection to the artist, and it is being improved every day. Thanks for the understanding of everyone in the community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Princeofrockcontact (talk • contribs) 14:19, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

Princeofrockcontact Once nominated at AfD the process must go forward. After 7-10 days an Administrator will review all the comments and reach a decision. See Help:My article got nominated for deletion!. You can add one Keep comment at the AfD, but the best path to saving the article is adding better references first, and then stating that in your AfD comment. While at AfC the draft was Declined several times because the references remained weak. Moving it to mainspace did not correct that problem. This may be an instance of WP:TOOSOON, in that Saulo has not been written about at length because his music output to date is modest. Lastly, "Prince of Rock contact" is an unusual User name choice for a person who professes to have no connection to the artist. You were asked to either confirm or deny a conflict of interest on your Talk page. David notMD (talk) 14:39, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

Katherine Hoover[edit]

Hello David,

The University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music Sibley Music Library has asked to be Katherine's archives. Much of Katherine's Career predates the internet such that print copies are only available in obscure archives at this point. Still there are 4 or 5 dissertations written about Katherine's works that are available electronically from those Universitys. Is it true that dissertations and theses are generally in the public domain?

Regarding: A woman's voice : the clarinet concerti of Musgrave, Hoover, and Gotkovsky Author: Nancy King Sanders:

  • It is documented by OCLC
  • It has been published as a google book

You deleted an subjective statement that has been printed in several dissertations or thesis and published from interviews. The thesis documents the passive statement.

What am I doing wrong? AjAirFlex (talk) 05:18, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Creation of Wikipedia page[edit]

Hi @David notMD! Thank you for your help. As you can probably see, I am really working hard on trying to figure out the next step about being part of the Wikipedia community which is getting a page approved. So can I not use an individual's website or company's site for secondary information? I asked this in the tearoom and I thought I used it correctly in this way. I can delete all the information pertaining to him in this way, as there are enough other notable sources to carry the page. I am just wondering when it's appropriate to reference an individual's personal website or company page as secondary information because I see this done on so many pages on Wikipedia. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I really thought I had got it this time. I cut so much info out and studied Wikipedia rules! Thank you for your help. I will go into the tearoom now as well to continue to ask advice about it.MediaExpert1979 (talk) 18:16, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Logic[edit]

Use of symbols in page names[edit]

Hello David - do you have any views on the use of symbols such as β in page names. Would you know if there is a guideline somewhere? My own feeling is that the page name ought to be readable to a general reader who may well know the term beta-carotene for example but not the symbol usage. Some pages use a symbol and others don't. Many thanks --Iztwoz (talk) 08:48, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

Iztwoz Wikipedia: Article titles and Wikipedia:Naming conventions (technical restrictions) suggest not using symbols, which I would take to not using non-English letters. When I enter a Greek letter in the Search Wikipedia space, I get English names. Example: μ lists M titles. David notMD (talk) 15:30, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for that. Shall go ahead and make changes. Best --Iztwoz (talk) 16:28, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

Multifaceted Femme Fatale[edit]

Recent deletion problem aside, I like the edit you did to the section "Multifaceted Femme Fatale" on Jan 26. It was my first substantive edit other than plot summary work. How did you see my addition so quickly, was it on your watchlist? I've subsequently changed the title to "Complex Femme Fatale"; "multifaceted" seems like a resume key word, or something. -- Pete Best Beatles (talk) 15:53, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

I check in as a Teahouse host several times a day, and if there has been an interaction with a new editor, I sometimes check on that person's Contributions to see what else they have been doing. For example, Arunpawargere asked a question at Teahouse which led me to find out that this editor is opposing two proposed article deletions, and is at times editing logged in to an account and not logged in - a serious error that can lead to being indefinitely blocked. So I left a note on Talk page to only edit logged in. Same editor may be paid by the companies in the articles, but has not answered to being paid or having a conflict-of-interest. Undeclared paid editing is another serious transgression. David notMD (talk) 16:00, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

Were any volumes published during the perion of Le Musée Napoléon?[edit]

Yes .... this is why one of the 3 titles of the publication is Le Musee Napoleon. If the period of this title is 1804 to 1814, then much of the publication is from this period. Thanks for your interest. I've put comments on your editing at the place of your explanation on my talk -- is that how it's done? George-Amherst (talk) 20:42, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

Months of effort working so long day and nights to help get the word out about a fantastic drug, HU308, destroyed without good explanation.[edit]

It would help a heck of a lot if editors had KINDLY guided me. My IQ is over 160. I hold 3 separate undergrad degrees in psychology and languages and a doctor of law. Yet I cannot understand the abrupt manner of writing of editors who say I called any of the companies MY company as if I owned it. there is no link to what they are talking about. whatever it was is gone now thanks to their assumptions that I have a conflict of interest. What I have a conflict with is editors that don't educate to explain and force educated men and women to guess what they are talking about. How would you like me to provide you legal counsel they way you guys provide me assistance? I could be abrupt and short and disparaging as well as totally speak in legalese and make assumptions you understand what I'm saying.

How on earth someone got the idea I have a conflict of interest because as a psychologist I fight alzheimers and study anything that stops inflammation of the brain. For that I and a great product under research for over 30 years are put in wikipedia hell and it is disparaged as not a notable drug. I think you all are insane. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MightyMaven (talk • contribs) 14:08, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

MightyMaven Wikipedia has set a standard for medical/health references that prohibits content based in in vitro work, animal research and individual clinical trials. I deleted most of the content at HU-308 because the references did not qualify. At that time (Nov 2021) I stated clearly my reasons on the Talk page of the article. If there are references that meet WP:MEDRS standards, i.e., reviews, systematic reviews and meta-analyses published in journals of good reputation, then information can be added back. As a research biochemist (PhD, MIT; post-doc Sloan-Kettering), when I first started editing articles at Wikipedia I too was using references that did not meet that standard, and had a lot of my efforts reverted.
