How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

in friendship

Thank you for being around, wizard of categories, and for your good Quaker wishes! - Happy new year, in friendship! - One of my pics was on the Main page (DYK) and even made the stats. - In this young year, I enjoyed meetings with friends in real life, and wish you many of those. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:11, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: Thanks very much. I should have sent out New Year greetings this year, but I was feeling pretty desultory on the day itself, so I decided to be lazy instead. :-)
Currently I'm waiting out the worst of this latest variant, hoping that it passes before too much longer, and trying to decide what orchestral concerts I want to partake in this year. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has some attractive options, as does the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. And I'll always support the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra in whatever they try to do. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:25, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
thank you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:02, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Offensive and incorrect characterizations of the performers[edit]

The blog post cited is offensive and misinterprets the film and the way the performers are depicted and identify. That is why the revision was made. 68.237.60.251 (talk) 20:08, 8 January 2022 (UTC)

Gary_Williams_(singer)[edit]

Hi there! Forgive me if this isn't the right procedure, but although I have edited a few pages and created one on Wikipedia, I am never quite sure what I am doing! There is a page I have worked on for Gary_Williams_(singer) and I have noticed an edit on there that doesn't have a citation and seems potentially derogatory. I don't know how to challenge it in the correct way. I can see you have done a few edits to this page, so wondered if you could help or have a look.

It's the last line in the Broadcasting section that reads:

Williams has done corporate work, mostly instructional videos, modelling himself on the Alan Partridge persona.

His corporate work has no citation. I can see his has a profile on Fiverr where he works but I don't know if this is sufficient. Also the reference to comedian Alan Partridge could be considered derogatory and since it has no citation, it seems like opinion, and I assume should be removed.

Sorry to bother you, but maybe you can help. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bosents (talk • contribs) 14:38, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

@Bosents: I don't necessarily see the reference as derogatory, but either way: if you don't see a reference, there's no reason you can't remove the line yourself once you've done sufficient investigation. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:28, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

--Bosents (talk) 19:11, 9 January 2022 (UTC)Ok. Thanks.

article " Santorin " , the player of a kind of an unknow sport[edit]

Hie, I'm french, and I'd type " Santorin " looking for the greek island of this name, and I found this Player with the same name . 1° there no cross-reference in the entry of the article on the island, or to a page of namesake " Santorin" . 2° by curiosity I read the article about this player, and nowhere there is a word about the sport he use to practrise ! ! ! Which sport ? ! 3° I try to write that in " discussion" but for some reasons, it's complicated for this article, and so I write that at the end of the article, hoping that a person would changed the article and write down the name of the sport, and made cross-reference to the greek island.... Tks for all. --Christofol (talk) 18:18, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

Italic titles[edit]

There seems to be a reason why you are doing something here but twice you appear to have un-italicised the title with your change. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:11, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

@Philafrenzy: Would you happen to have more information on which two? I'm removing a template which has been superseded by a change in infoboxes for some while now - any place I remove it should keep an italicized title due to the infobox in use. I'll take a look and see what's causing the issue. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:21, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
@Philafrenzy: Thanks. I've fixed the infobox in both cases and removed the hatnote, so everything should be in order (basically, the infobox contained "title of book" as the designator at the line "italic title", which doesn't generate a response from the article). They look OK to me from this end, at least. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:20, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
OK, why does "italic title =" exist? Philafrenzy (talk) 18:35, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
@Philafrenzy: If I understand the documentation correctly (not having created the infobox myself), it's so that if there is a reason that the display title should default to something other than fully italic, it can be noted there. If it's not filled in, the infobox defaults to generating an italic title much like the {{italic title}}, superseding it for those pages. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:39, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
How can you see if an infox template has the italic switch? For example Template:Infobox game has an obvious on/off ith |italic title=yes. But looking at Template:Infobox person I can only tell by looking at the title of the infobox example itself. I'll remove the italic template when I see it. Can you point me to a reference to the change so I can reference it in the edit summary when I remove the template. Sciencefish (talk) 08:59, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
@Sciencefish: See the hatnote at the top of Template:Infobox magazine, for instance; the template tells you when it's designed to automatically italicize the title of a page. There's a handful that do - infoboxes for magazines, books, plays, journals, television series, and films, for instance. So I'd check the infobox template page for information before moving. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 13:03, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

Help[edit]

Hey, can you help me create a discography page for YNW Melly as I keep up with him a lot and can't edit his normal page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Trippletripple223 (talk • contribs) 12:07, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

@Trippletripple223: Sorry, I'm no good with discographies. You might want to ask over at Wikipedia:WikiProject Discographies for more information. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 13:05, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
