Creators Media is a digital media company. Its brands have a combined total of over 18 million uniques a month and cover everything from films, television, popular culture to video gaming and MMA sports. Creators Media began in Berlin, with the launch of entertainment news site moviepilot.com, which acted as a social media agency for film studios, including 20th Century Fox and Sony, using audience analytics software to conduct digital marketing campaigns across social media.

On December 5, 2016 Movie Pilot rebranded to Creators Media, Inc., a parent company that houses publishing brands Movie Pilot, Champions, and Now Loading.[2]

History[edit]

Movie Pilot was launched by co-founders Tobi Bauckhage, Jon Handschin, and Ben Kubota in 2007, a Berlin-based film website that also offered social media consulting services to film studios. Using an open-posting model that invites readers to write their own content, moviepilot.de grew to more than 6.8 million unique monthly views by October 2014 (Google Analytics).[3]

Since its launch Movie Pilot has expanded into other publishing verticals like Now Loading, a site for gamers, and Champions, an MMA fan site. In December 2016 Movie Pilot announced a formal rename of the company to Creators Media, Inc., a parent company that houses all their media brands.

Now based in Venice, Los Angeles, Creators Media, Inc. employs approximately 100 employees worldwide.[4]

Contributor platform[edit]

Movie Pilot’s publishing power came in part through an open posting platform model that affords fans the opportunity to create their own content similar to Wordpress, but with distribution to a network of millions. As the platform grew and fans expressed their desire to expand their writing into other genres, like gaming and MMA, Creators.co was launched in February 2016. Creators.co is the open web platform where fans create, communicate, and collaborate on all things entertainment and pop culture. [5]

Creators Media rewards contributors with access to press events, celebrity interviews, and a revenue sharing model for creators who have gone through a verification process. [6]

Media brands[edit]

Moviepilot.com[edit]

Movie Pilot is the first publishing brand created by Creators Media founders Tobi Bauckhage, Jon Handschin, and Ben Kubota. Started in 2007 in Germany, Moviepilot.com covers entertainment news around movies, films, and popculture. According to Quantcast, Moviepilot averages more than 60 million views per month and more than 15 million unique views, second only to IMDb for film websites.[7] Movie Pilot also posts select stories through their multi-channel Facebook platform; their 15 channels total more than 32 million likes on Facebook, with "Moviepilot Horror" and "Moviepilot Vampires" tallying the highest marks (5.66m and 4.25m, respectively).[8]

NowLoading.co[edit]

Now Loading is a millennial focused gaming publisher. It runs off of the same fan-focused creator model that Moviepilot.com was built on in 2012, gathering content from both staff and fans.

Champions.co[edit]

Movie Pilot's MMA vertical, Champions, provides coverage of UFC fighting. Through the creators.co platform used by Movie Pilot and Now Loading, UFC fighters are regular contributors to the site.
