Lebanese Arabic userboxes[edit]

In this template page, for example, the navbox in the bottom refers to North Levantine Arabic. Is there a way to change it to Lebanese Arabic, with the code apc-LB? Nehme1499 12:43, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

TemplateData for userboxes[edit]

There is no WikiProject Userboxes in my homewiki, so I come here to ask your opinion. How do you think, would adding TemplateData to userboxes make them easier to discover and use? If so, where is the best place to put it: on the template page, on the documentation subpage or a separate subpage? Thanks in advance for your comments. Donation userbox[edit]

I was impressed with the OP at this Help desk request, who, in the context of asking their question, mentioned that they donate monthly to Wikipedia. I wanted to respond to them that aside from their original question, they could also add the "donation userbox" to their user page, and headed over to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Galleries/alphabetical to find it. Surprise: no such userbox in the gallery! (A generic search did turn up just one user template: Template:User wikipedia/DonorWM; maybe just improve/expand that one, and promote it to template space?)

Can we help out this user (and may many others) have a userbox to mention their donations? I'm thinking something with some basic text, with a param that lets you alter it, e.g., 'I {{{text|donate}}} to Wikipedia!', with examples like, |text=donated, |text=donate regularly etc., or maybe the more sober text at the user template?

Artwork: I looked at Commons, but couldn't find much interesting artwork at Commons, but there was this 'Donate to Wikipedia' button (seems a bit old skool to me), and a few others. (Maybe the WMF logo is good enough.) It would be kinda cool, to be able to have a clickable button, image, or string right in the userbox that would link them straight to the wmf:donate page. If you come up with something, please let Cannizaro394 know about it, or ping me and I'll notify them. Thanks! Mathglot (talk) 20:37, 25 September 2023 (UTC) (subscribed)[reply]

@Mathglot: This userbox seems to be similar to what you're looking for.

There are other userboxes related to the topic of Wikimedia Foundation donations at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Wikipedia/Miscellaneous. Also, Template:User wikipedia/DonorWM is already in template space.

'self promo'[edit]

Questain on the rules of adding ones userboxes to the gallery. So, i've used UBX maker to make three Userboxes. and I've added two to their respective places on the "music gallery" Place. (Example HERE where I added my King Nothing Metallica Userbox to it's place. But, i do have a question; is that breaking Wikipedia's rule's on Conflict-of-editing? Since those say not to add things if I am involved/have/done something important regarding that thing (so if I worked at a KFC, I cant go edit and say "KFC is the best ever!!"), and while I don't have any connection to Metallica or the Beatles, I do enjoy them both. AND I made those UBX's, so I'd be editing something created by me. So does that break any rules? (Sorry for shitty framing and grammar, I just didn't know how this questain should be written.) Holo Boxes[edit]

I boldly made a bunch of Userboxes, but I'm not sure if they are alright... they are at this section of the second Interests Page, I got the logo at Wikimedia Commons, I didn't upload it, it was already there, but I just want to make sure they are ok! —Nanami73 talk 12:08, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

They seem fine, don't worry. It's fine to use images from Wikimedia Commons that you didn't upload. That's why it's there, after all. -- KomradeKalashnikov (talk) 20:37, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What determines the featured options for the {{User in region}} userboxes?[edit]

It seems that each region that can be passed to {{User in region}} template has a subpage of Wikipedia:Userboxes that lists the most common variations of that userbox. For example, Wikipedia:Userboxes/Location/US-HI. It seems to me that option 56, which shows "This user is from _", is one of the most useful variations and should be clearly advertized on those subpages. But since I assume there are like a thousand of them I hardly want to edit them all. So... is there a way to show that option on all of those subpages or is editing them one at a time the only way? Userboxes and international spoilers?[edit]

I've been considering to make a new userbox related to an animated series, Super Wings in particular, because a few days ago I've seen that cartoon TV stations in China have aired the first half of the eighth season. However, I'm concerned because this particular season is not aired in everywhere else yet at the time I'm writing this (including in South Korea and United States, even though I think it'll be aired in the former quite soon judging from the patterns in Korean Wikipedia), so I'm not sure if I can create this new userbox without risk of bringing international spoilery stuffs now. What do you guys think? Please answer kindly, thanks. Starry Windy 04:45, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Starry Windy! Per WP:SPOILERS, we include spoilers in articles frequently, so there's certainly no rule you couldn't in a userbox as well. However, many people here, as anywhere, dislike spoilers, so you might want to hold off just to be nice to them. Also consider whether the userbox has relevance to your Wikipedia editing or not. It'd be a bit harder to code, but you could consider some option that'd initially hide the spoiler part. Hope that helps! Cheers, {{u|Sdkb}}talk 15:30, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Racist userbox[edit]

I think User:UBX/No Turkey in EU should be excluded from the Wikiproject. It does not represent Wikipedia politically and can be interpreted as racist. If someone wishes to use such userbox they shall create one custom under their userpage. VectorVoyager (talk) 10:47, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

VectorVoyager Nothing about this userbox immediately strikes me as anything more than a political position. The userbox makes no mention of race or ethnicity, and while Wikipedia is supposed to be politically neutral, individual users are allowed to express their personal beliefs and positions through userboxes. Doing so allows users to be more transparent as makes it easier to make their personal biases known. There are numerous userboxes listed at WP:UBX/POLITICS that allow individual users to express their political positions. Obviously, a userbox that reads like "This user does not want Turks in the EU" would not be allowed as it would indeed be racist. However, the userbox in question is regarding the country of Turkey, not the people that live there. - ZLEA T\C 21:16, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Mseingth2133444 (Did I mess up? Let me know here) 23:46, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That said, the wording probably could be more clear, but "Turkish" links to Turkey and not Turkish people. - ZLEA T\C 21:19, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This probably wasn’t done with racist intent. Unless it’s some kind of dogwhistle, it can stay on Wikipedia. HaytchT (talk) 21:39, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This userbox is not racist not even close. Catfurball (talk) 21:41, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Need Help Using a Portion of an Existing Image[edit]

I have tried different ways of leveraging Template:Easy_CSS_image_crop and Template:CSS image crop to use a portion of a Wikipedia image in a userbox, but struggling. For example, I just want to use the head portion of this photo.

Examples:

Thanks in advance if anyone can help! WidgetKid (talk) 20:59, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You should be able to use the Wikimedia Commons crop tool to crop it and upload the image to Commons. From there, you can use it the same way you would use any other image in a userbox. -- KomradeKalashnikov (talk) 13:31, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Outdated Userboxes[edit]

Hi there,

there are quite a few outdated userboxes. Two I noticed were the Firefox Aurora userbox (discontinued a decade ago) and the MSN userbox (discontinued in the 2010s)

Is anybody willing to help me go through these userboxes and remove them (from the pages, NOT wikipedia)? HaytchT (talk) 21:38, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
