Welcome to the fifth Bugle edition of 2016!
As far as we're aware, this is the first ever bi-monthly edition of the Bugle. The reason for this is rather prosaic though: we wanted to reset the monthly schedule so that future editions are published early in the month. As a result, we'll return to monthly editions from July onwards.
A benefit of this double edition is that the regular article news section is huge, with nine new featured articles, five new featured pictures, and 13 new A-class articles! While there's a stronger-than-usual emphasis on World War II among these articles, their topics also include a medieval ruler of Egypt, New Zealand's first Victoria Cross recipient, and an Australian World War I soldier who became famous for his success in looting. The new featured pictures are also highly diverse, and include a penguin and the inventor of the organisation chart.
TomStar81's regular World War I timeline is also a double edition, and provides a summary of the dramatic events of May and June 1916. Tom has also brought us an op-ed on one of the key events of this period, the Battle of Jutland which was fought from 31 May to 1 June.
The book review section features a review by Hawkeye7 of the second volume of the official history of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, as well as a round-up of some recent reviews of books which were published on other websites.
Finally, readers might also be interested in Parsecboy's recent article on the Wikimedia blog in which he shares why he writes about warships.

- The contest department completed its 106th round of competition in April. Another very hotly contested month, there were a total of 84 articles being submitted by 11 editors. First place went to Sturmvogel_66 with a mammoth 240 points from 26 articles, while Kges1901 came second with 120 points from 22 articles. For their efforts, Sturmvogel received the Chevrons and Kges earned the Writer's Barnstar. AustralianRupert, Djmaschek, Ian Rose, Peacemaker67, Zawed, Parsecboy, TeriEmbrey, Tomandjerry211 and Lineagegeek also fielded entries.
- The contest department completed its 107th round of competition in May. During the month there were a total of 55 articles being submitted by nine editors. First place went to Parsecboy with 88 points from eight articles, while Kges1901 came second with 82 points from 14 articles. For their efforts, Parsecboy receives the Chevrons and Kges earns the Writer's Barnstar. AustralianRupert, Djmaschek, Ian Rose, Zawed, Sturmvogel, Lineagegeek, and Zawed also fielded entries.
