Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Bob80q and Ruffnready were blocked for abusing multiple accounts in October 2017. Since then, the user has returned as an IP (listed) and now as a registered account (Pignetti). Pignetti admits on his talk page to creating a new account as his previous ones were blocked permanently. He shows the same editing patterns as the prior activity, to include tone and edit summary text. Billcasey905 (talk) 10:09, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Additional information needed - @Billcasey905: In order to facilitate and expedite your request, please provide diffs to support your case. Please give two or more diffs meeting the following format:
  1. At least one diff is from the sockmaster (or an account already blocked as a confirmed sockpuppet of the sockmaster), showing the behaviour characteristic of the sockmaster.
  2. At least one diff per suspected sockpuppet, showing the suspected sockpuppet emulating the behaviour of the sockmaster given in the first diff.
  3. In situations where it is not immediately obvious from the diffs what the characteristic behaviour is, a short explanation must be provided. Around one sentence is enough for this. Sir Sputnik (talk) 21:52, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Since the IP is stale and the requested evidence doesn't seem to be forthcoming, I'm closing this without action. Sir Sputnik (talk) 00:52, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

VMI boosterism focusing on the exact same points for ~8 years (see previous blocks for similar evidence); please realize this may also be User:Strgzr1. Both have been blocked in the past for similar boosterism and sockpuppetry...it's possible the two are related: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]. Requesting this IP be blocked and pages indef WP:ECP'd due to long-term disruption:

comment I think this is User:Strgzr1, not User:Bob80q. Same issue, just on the other side. I am certain they are different people, as their internet conflict spans multiple sites, including senior military college message boards. Billcasey905 (talk) 16:27, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
"please realize this may also be User:Strgzr1." At this point, it's a distinction without a significant difference. Buffs (talk) 14:10, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Clerk note: The IP's edits match up with known sock Realsnappy18; since this IP seems particularly stable, blocked for three months. Skydweller also made similar edits. I do not see compelling evidence that Spruancefan is related,  Blocked and tagged. Closing. GeneralNotability (talk) 14:15, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

Same edits to same pages as Bob80q and other sock accounts and ips, with focus on The Citadel-related issues and on adding unsourced squadron details to several US aircraft articles that follow Bob's unique formatting style. Requesting a DUCK block, but also a Checkuser to see if there are any other recent sock accounts, if that is possible. BilCat (talk) 01:43, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused here. I'm assuming this should have been filed under Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Bob80q. Was that your intent? -- RoySmith (talk) 02:16, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@BilCat see above question. -- RoySmith (talk) 02:19, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oops! Facepalm Facepalm Yes, it should've been filed at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Bob80q. My bad. How do we fix it? Ask for a merge? BilCat (talk) 02:22, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No sweat, I'll take care of it. I just wanted to make sure that's what you had meant. -- RoySmith (talk) 02:39, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK, now that we've got that squared away, could you provide some pairs of diffs showing which edits were repeated between the accounts? -- RoySmith (talk) 02:45, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can show similarities between the registered accounts. A lot of the edits weren't identical, but Bob has a unique style. A lot of the edits were done through IPs, and I generally reverted those per WP:DUCK. There may have been some range blocks, but I don't have a record of those, or which admin blocked them. I'm working on providing diffs, but it may take a few hours. BilCat (talk) 04:31, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This edit by Special:Contributions/Pignetti shows the similar style that Bob uses, as seen here and here today. Francis M. Beaudette and The Citadel are also common articles edited by Bob and his socks, including IPs, but I don't have specific diffs to compare. I'll keep looking. Pinging @Jpgordon:, @GeneralNotability:, and @Bbb23:, who are admins who maynbe familiar with the case. @Billcasey905: and @Buffs: have interacted with Bob's socks on several occasions, and may have some relevant diffs. • CU yields nothing useful; you'll need to go completely by behavioral evidence. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 05:12, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Marking request as checked based on the above comment. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 11:00, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I did my own behavioral investigation. 99% of the edits by 449th CO intersect with the master and their socks. Edit summaries, when used, are similar ("updated status ..."). And there are the diffs provided by the filer. Blocked, tagged, closing. Bbb23 (talk) 14:54, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note to future people working this case, there's some overlap with Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Strgzr1. I don't think they the same sock farm, but it's worth taking a look at both. -- RoySmith (talk) 15:36, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
