With regards to the deletion of Kloreen by and three others by the same user. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 17:46, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Note. Page creator DudeWithAFeud was WP:INDEFfed in November 2015. Narky Blert (talk) 18:38, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete – phonetic misspelling, possibly a joke, per my rationale at the RfD for kloreen. ComplexRational (talk) 18:28, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, I find phonetic misspellings useful. If you are looking for Bromine, but you've heard it and don't know how to spell it, this is a reasonable guess. -- Tavix (talk) 18:44, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm...I can dig that, but this (or more so chlorine) is not very uncommon and -ine seems like the usual spelling. Are there any rhyming words in English that end with -een? ComplexRational (talk) 19:36, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I guess there are no rhyming words for chlorine at all; however, there are words like queen and teen (as well as adjectives like green) that end with -een. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 19:55, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    Doreen. Narky Blert (talk) 21:17, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Narky: What do you want to say? This does not rhyme with bromine. Did you just want to give another -een example? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 11:56, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
They were providing an example that rhymed with "chlorine" (like you mentioned). Also, I think you pinged the wrong user ("Narky" instead of "Narky Blert"). Paintspot Infez (talk) 03:59, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Typing "brom" into the search bar lists "bromine" as the second result in the autocomplete menu. --Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝) 19:04, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • If the searcher assumes "Bromine" sounds like a frat bro wanting his stuff back, it's not going to click that Bromine is actually the article for "Bromeen". -- Tavix (talk) 20:55, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • That is, however, a legitimate alternative pronunciation according to the infobox. Double sharp (talk) 02:28, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • ...I'm not understanding how that is rationale for deletion. That just proves that the "Bromine" is most likely the page readers are looking for if they type in "Brom", which in no way addresses the existence of the nominated redirect, especially if someone attempts to look up or link to the title of the redirect. In respect to the utility of redirects on Wikipedia, the "delete" rationale provided in this comment is a red herring. Steel1943 (talk) 20:08, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Tavix. Plausible phonetic spelling. Steel1943 (talk) 20:04, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Previous discussion found here. — J947 (user | cont | ess), at 22:39, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • @J947: Wow, I forgot about that behemoth of a listing, let alone that I was its closer. Either way, old RfD now posted at the top as well. Steel1943 (talk) 00:32, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - It it useful? It is. Does it do any harm? It does not. This is a perfectly reasonable guess for how to spell the specific element. We should keep in mind that a large number of non-native English speakers use Wikipedia and that redirects can be particularly helpful for them. We should leave this alone. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 02:57, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Perfectly plausible phonetic spelling. Thryduulf (talk) 10:32, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep sufficiently plausible that someone might spell it this way. LEPRICAVARK (talk) 12:50, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per above. As said above, a totally reasonable phonetic spelling. Also, yeah, the search bar isn't the only way to find a page. Paintspot Infez (talk) 03:46, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. In case you don't know, not everyone finds articles with Special:Search. Don't force your information-seeking behavior on everyone else. Nyttend backup (talk) 16:15, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. signed, Rosguill talk 00:38, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This phrase isn't mentioned in the article...neither is Bill Gates. I don't know if I can find any history between Hawkins and Gates on the Internet, either. I'd say delete unless someone can find a reliable source proving he said or was called this at some point. Regards, SONIC678 20:56, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - Google search for this exact string brings up nothing related to Hawkins. Not sure what the intended meaning is. Hog Farm (talk) 22:29, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Yes, I agree. I'm also bewildered by this. They're both notable individuals, but they don't appear to have, as stated above, any particular connection other than both being famous during similar time periods in the Anglosphere. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 02:42, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per everything above me. Utopes (talk / cont) 03:30, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Whilst I understand from other sources that these 2 people were the 2 killed in 1980, the article does not say so (and anyone following these redirects will not learn that) and so unless there is notability and a change to the article then WP:NOTMEMORIAL applies. The result of the discussion was keep. Nomination withdrawn. (non-admin closure) Hog Farm (talk) 22:30, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Minor fictional region no longer mentioned in its target article. No merges have occurred, so no WP:ATT issues. A Google search indicates real-world usages of this term, but they mostly appear to be non-notable country clubs. Hog Farm (talk) 02:39, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Keep Well, we're down to very minor details, but Tolkien's whole approach was to work from names up to stories, so details are significant, and redirects are cheap. Tolkien lived at Sarehole and walked along Green Hill Road to visit his grandparents, the likely origin of the name. I've added a footnote with citation. Ben Nyaumbe[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to Man bites dog#Man bites snake. signed, Rosguill talk 20:49, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what the appropriate venue for this is. It went through an AfD in 2009: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ben Nyaumbe, which was closed as "merge to snake". I can't believe that the original content would survive an AfD in 2020, and am somewhat shocked that it was kicked down to a redirect rather than deleted outright as recently as 2009 (seems more like 2007 or earlier Wikipedia behavior). No mention of this term at any target, nothing encyclopedic to retain. Plantdrew (talk) 02:07, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:47, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Man bites dog#Man bites snake (!) - IMO a better target than one proposed in the AFD. I've added the information and a citation. The story was picked up by, among others, Reuters, the BBC and several national newspapers around the world, and was "improved" along the way. Definitely WP:BLP1E, but IMO worth noting somewhere. Narky Blert (talk) 14:58, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. Participants agree that this is sufficiently unhelpful to warrant removing it, given the missing word gives it an extremely ambiguous meaning. ~ mazca talk 18:10, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Unlikely search term that does not necessarily mean "fear of germs", I would suggest deletion. signed, Rosguill talk 20:32, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. The lack of the word "of" makes it sound more like propaganda. Also Fear of germs already exists. OcelotCreeper (talk) 22:06, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - This is clunky and unhelpful. 'Afraid of germs' and the like provide a notable contrast. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 02:44, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. I would parse this as referring to a specific type of germs that by their nature cause fear through some mechanism other than phobia. Thryduulf (talk) 10:37, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've decided to reconcile this failed RfD by nominating the pages by element. This one is one of the strangest typos I've ever encountered. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 17:34, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete as WP:NONSENSE. Narky Blert (talk) 18:09, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. I find it impossible to believe someone looking for "lithium" would type this. --Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝) 22:42, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. As evidenced by the little article that was at this title upon creation [1] this is indeed an OCR artefact that there are quite a few ghits out there for. – Uanfala (talk) 23:16, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy keep, because Uanfala has demonstrated that the nomination failed to pay attention to the context for this redirect's creation. Nyttend (talk) 22:38, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak keep. A surprisingly large number of Google results for uthium, all in a context that make it fairly clear the lithium is the intended meaning. Still not 100% convinced this is a plausible search term, but enough results on Google this seems to be a common scanner error. Hog Farm (talk) 02:20, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. This is a surprisingly common OCR error, see Talk:Lithium/Archive 1#Uthium. Double sharp (talk) 05:14, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. Redirect is expecting us to know it is referring to Coronavirus. OcelotCreeper (talk) 22:01, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - Corona is not a good shortened version of coronavirus, as it is ambiguous. Hog Farm (talk) 22:31, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong keep for now. The internal search results in this scenario are not very usable. See for example this search page. Without the redirect, our article about the pandemic in Italy is way down the list. We can revisit this in a year or so, but right now the pandemic is the primary topic by a very long way. These are shorthand terms that get searched up very frequently, and I don't think that I can imagine searching up Corona in norway and not looking for the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in Norway in this moment. — J947 (user | cont | ess), at 22:48, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Coronavirus in Italy already exists, people are not currently so lazy, they can't get themselves to type a few extra letters. OcelotCreeper (talk) 01:13, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Assertions, assertions. — J947 (user | cont | ess), at 22:22, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see why we should delete the lowercase versions; they are still quite highly used, presumably through URL searches. The high results for Corona in Sweden are likely the result of external links. — J947 (user | cont | ess), at 21:13, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all since Corona is vague, the target article is not about eyes or beer, their target is akin to having extreme WP:RECENTISM issues, and there's no guarantee that these will get nominated again. Let's nip these in the bud while they have been thrown on the table for display (RfD). Steel1943 (talk) 00:42, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all - While it's true that the 'cornoavirus' is often referred to as just 'corona', the vagueness is a major issue. I find the above arguments pretty persuasive. Deletion is the right call. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 02:49, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Snowball. Consensus is clear to be delete. OcelotCreeper (talk) 03:49, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete (in addition to other reasons already given) as ambiguous. Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS, 2002–2003) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS, 2012–2013) were also coronavirus outbreaks. Narky Blert (talk) 06:18, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. In addition to the other virus outbreaks Narky Blert mentions, the beer, car, gastropod and chocolate company (at least) could also plausibly have ...in country articles. Thryduulf (talk) 10:44, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete or Snow delete, would they survive creation today? Hell no. >>BEANS X2t 11:06, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete overly vague search term. LEPRICAVARK (talk) 12:56, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:21, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. "Coronavirus" seems to be more frequently used than mere "corona" when referring to SARS-Cov-2 or COVID-19. IMHO, "corona" is too colloquial for an encyclopedia. -- Puisque (talk) 02:14, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Tentative delete. The arguments above are all persuasive, but if there are any geo-located articles concentrating on Corona (beer), we ought to retarget any of these that would make sense. Nyttend backup (talk) 16:09, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment – see a related discussion. Still no one has rebutted my argument above however: I don't think that I can imagine searching up Corona in norway and not looking for the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in Norway in this moment. — J947 (user | cont | ess), at 22:20, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. The redirects go where everyone would expect they should and they're clearly useful (receiving about a dozen or more hits per day). Corona in these contexts is obviously a somewhat informal term, but it's widely used and unambiguous – no other coronaviruses are called that, and none of the other things called corona are remotely plausible in a phrase like Corona in [Country]. Of course, this use of the word may start to get obsolete once it's all over, and it might be that one day the redirects will be seen as unlikely, but that day is not now. On a lighter note, it's exactly the situation described in https://xkcd.com/2275/ – "It's like, you know the giant spider downtown that sits on the buildings and sometimes eats cars? I think technically it's a mutant T. annexa wolf spider, but everyone is just calling it "the spider" and we all know what they mean." – Uanfala (talk) 02:21, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Adding that the first two can be deleted: Corona in sweden and Corona in norway are redundant given that we've already got the correctly capitalised Corona in Sweden and Corona in Norway. – Uanfala (talk) 12:10, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep the last three redirects. Plausible n cheap. --Soumyabrata stay at home wash your hands to protect from coronavirus 08:59, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, reasonable search terms, currently unlikely to be ambiguous. Discuss again next year. —Kusma (t·c) 10:10, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

First off, who types leathal instead of little? Second, leathal instead of little makes it sound like an action or horror movie. I suggest speedy delete per R3. OcelotCreeper (talk) 18:27, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Speedy delete per WP:R3. Agree with nom, tagged redirect for CSD. Hog Farm (talk) 19:03, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Hog Farm: Thanks. I wanted to tag this instead of nominating it, but the only times they were accepted were when other more experienced Wikipedians also said speedy delete too so I don't eventually want to get blocked for failing tagging things for CSD improperly (As in I don't want to tag articles improperly so much, it becomes disruptive). Hugbunter[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was speedy keep. Withdrawn by nominator. (non-admin closure) — J947 (user | cont | ess), at 23:34, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

By having this and the actual name HugBunter as redirects, it lead to HugBunter only being a search recommendation when both of these were nominated March 11th, even when I typed HugBunter in the search box with the B capitalized, which also makes more sense having looked at the page history of HugBunter and Hugbunter. I suggest we delete Hugbunter so the actual name, HugBunter, can appear in the search box. OcelotCreeper (talk) 17:21, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. If a title makes a good redirect, a no-caps version of the title also makes a good redirect. You might not remember the precise capitalisation, or you might simply be lazy. The result of the discussion was retarget to Right-to-left mark. signed, Rosguill talk 20:32, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Retarget? I'm wondering if this would be better as a redirect to Right-to-left mark, but I don't know much about this field, so I wanted to come here and get extra input instead of being bold. The current target covers mechanisms for encoding right-to-left text (this is the purpose of the right-to-left mark) and links the right-to-left mark as a see also at one point, so it's obviously relevant. I'm just not sure whether a "mark" and a "marker" are close enough to be treated simultaneously, which in this case is what a redirect would do. Note that we have no corresponding LTR marker redirect or article. Nyttend backup (talk) 14:28, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak retarget "RTL mark[er]" is a plausible abbreviation guess by a non-expert, but the usual acronym is RLM (and correspondingly LRM for the left-to-right mark). –LaundryPizza03 (d) 15:53, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Retargeting. Is just a marker full stop, not a reference to the whole BiDi script book. Once at arrived the RLM page, a reader is where they may expect to be, and can read&click as wished. -DePiep (talk) 18:51, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was Keep Afgjanistan, delete Afeganistao, no consensus for what to do with Avghanistaun. The discussion for Avghanistaun was split between keep, redirect and delete with a few editors even stating that they weren't sure what to do with it. No prejudice against a renomination or other further action to address issues at Avghanistaun, but given that consensus is clear for the other two redirects I think a close is appropriate. signed, Rosguill talk 20:27, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Deletão alão the secondão per WP:NOTPORTUGUESE. --Soumyabrata stay at home wash your hands to protect from coronavirus 06:41, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Afgjanistan as a one-letter typo on an adjacent key: likely misspelling.
Delete Afeganistao per WP:RFFL (Portuguese without a diacritic, it should be Afeganistão).
Keep Avghanistaun as {{R from former spelling}}, see A Memoir of India and Avghanistaun by Josiah Harlan. Narky Blert (talk) 07:35, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Mix of K/D per Narky Blert. Good find on Avghanistaun; I would have agreed with LaundryPizza on its implausibility if I'd come here before Harlan's book was linked, but since we know about it, we shouldn't trash it. For those not using QWERTY, "h" and "j" are next to each other, and it's not implausible that you'd switch them. And yes, Portuguese typos aren't something we should be supporting. Nyttend backup (talk) 14:36, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Afgjanistan and delete the rest. I almost considered the third one plausible with the v being near the f, but the u is far from both the a and the n. Avghanistan is more plausible than Avghanistaun so I'll create that. OcelotCreeper (talk) 16:10, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • OcelotCreeper, why do you think a title is implausible when it's appeared in the title of a published work? Why is {{R from former spelling}} not an acceptable reason to keep it? Nyttend backup (talk) 17:50, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • Nyttend backup probably because there isn't an article yet from my knowledge about the published work, so people searching Avghanistaun will not get what they're looking for (If there is a wiki article about the published work or one that mentions it, please reply to this comment with a link to the article). OcelotCreeper (talk) 18:11, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@OcelotCreeper: "If there is a wiki article about the published work or one that mentions it, please reply to this comment with a link to the article". I already did: Josiah Harlan#Works. Narky Blert (talk) 18:30, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Narky Blert: Ok than retarget Avghanistaun to Josiah Harlan, though I do recommend expanding the Harlan page first because I don't think one should justify a redirect existing if the only mention of it is an external link and nothing else about the external link is mentioned. OcelotCreeper (talk) 18:36, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Delete per WP:RFOREIGN, as the concept of sleep quality doesn't seem to have a particular connection to Slovene. Plus, there's an equivalent on the Slovene Wikipedia that redirects to its equivalent to the target and was created around the same time as this one back in 2016 (when the English Wikipedia version started out as an article in Slovene before being turned into a redirect a couple weeks afterward), which doesn't help things here. • Comment - It's been, sadly, too long for me to personally recall the details about hydrogen-related chemistry despite my many classes, but from a bit of searching I can see that this specific abbreviation is indeed used in certain chemical equations. . The superscripts are required; that 1970 paper uses abbreviations which might be understood by a quantum mechanic but are not by me. A Google search gave no likely alternative target. Narky Blert (talk) 08:00, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Tagged as {{R from alternative language}}, but I don't see how chlorine has a special affinity for German. Also, one typing "chlor" in the search bar could be looking for anything listed at Special:PrefixIndex/chlor (or even something else misspelled like chloe), no way of knowing which. • Delete although Germanophone Carl Wilhelm Scheele discovered this element, he did not name it "Chlor" -- 65.94.170.207 (talk) 03:20, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    • Also, the {{R from alternate language}} should be stripped; replaced with {{R from related term}} or somesuch. (abbreviation? (abbreviated prefix) adjective? (adjectival prefix) ) -- 65.94.170.207 (talk) 15:54, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - This is used a variant of 'Chloro', the scientific prefix for some compound that contains chlorine, as stated by different dictionaries. It appears to be reasonably justifiable so long as we accept the premise of using prefixes as valid redirects in the first place. And I think that we should. • Comment chlor- should probably also be created in that case -- 65.94.170.207 (talk) 15:51, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per CoffeeWithMarkets. Plausible search term. Note that DAB pages fluor and brom mention the respective elements/prefixes. Narky Blert (talk) 08:23, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, tentatively. Seems like CoffeeWithMarkets has a good argument, so that's probably where my !vote shall stay. Utopes (talk / cont) 03:34, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
