User:Tresiden/god[edit]

Divisive and borderline-offensive userbox, there are already many other userboxes that express in a much nicer way that the user does not believe in god. Novidmarana (talk) 22:33, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment Common courtesy dictates that you inform the user in question about the MfD (or maybe even ask if he might change the box before you just slap a MfD tag on it). Also the MfD tag is broken and transludes on the other pages - please fix it. CharonX/talk 23:13, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Wikipedia:Editors matter. This user is not directly or personally attacking anyone.--WaltCip (talk) 22:46, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep This userbox strongly expresses a users opinion, but I don't feel it does so in an overly offensive way. CharonX/talk 23:13, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep no real reason to delete this for it's just an opinion and one that should be allowed to be expressed, wikipedia should not censor user boxes unless they are actually offensive such as "Christians are dickheads" or something (1NosferatuZodd1 (talk) 12:14, 3 May 2008 (UTC))[reply]
Calling someone else's beliefs crap can be quite offensive. Or should we allow a "This user has nothing of that Islam/Judaism/Democracy crap". That's why Wikipedia:Userboxes specifically says that User boxes must not be divisive, and this userbox is potentially divisive as it makes a negative comparison and can thus look offensive to any user who happens to believe in god. Whether this specific userbox is offensive lies in the eyes of the beholder, but that is the point as this makes the userbox divisive. Novidmarana (talk) 17:29, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's a guideline, not a policy. And no, we wouldn't allow a userbox that refers to Islam as crap.--WaltCip (talk) 20:12, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • 'The pseudoscience of "God"' then, perhaps?--WaltCip (talk) 17:30, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I'm neutral on this point. For one, a userbox that said God This user doesn't believe in myths. Was nom'd at MfD, and the result was keep. How ever, I feel that "Crap" is too strong. If that was changed to something else, I would gladly say keep. Mm40|Talk|Sign|Review 19:39, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Keep Because of the rewording. Mm40|Talk|Sign|Review 22:24, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, unecessary and soapboxy. Is there any need for statements that belief in God is 'crap' on an encyclopedic projecy? Sorry, it's pointless, childish and unecessarily divisive. -- Naerii 20:08, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete I'm very tolerant about religious-opinion userboxes, but this is too offensively negative. DGG (talk) 00:58, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I BOLDly reworded to a less offensive wording that does not change the meaning[1] --Enric Naval (talk) 02:20, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep no longer offensive due to rewording by Enric.--Otterathome (talk) 15:28, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
