2022 summer connect[edit]

With spring and summer coming up, is there enthusiasm for an outdoor connect? I was thinking Stanley Park or Queen Elizabeth Park? Open to other options based on interest. Ktin (talk) 17:21, 11 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm definitely interested. Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 17:22, 11 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2020-08-16[edit]

Not a Vancouver meetup per se, but, Clayoquot and I, found ourselves at the West coast Virtual Zoom Wiknic as a part of the Wikipedia:Wiknic#Great_American_Wiknic_virtual_edition_2020. Not sure if there was a geo-notification of some form, but, going forward it will be a great idea to have these notifications reach our Vancouver group as well. I will do some checks as well, but, if someone has any ideas please feel free to chime in. Cheers and have a great week ahead. Ktin (talk) 00:16, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

2019‑08‑04[edit]

An August long weekend get together is on! We will meet on Sun, 2019‑08‑04 from 10:00 to 11:30 (24-hour clock) at the designated picnic area at the north end of Queen Elizabeth Park, where the picnic table icon appears on this map. If you'd like to bring some snacks to share, that would be lovely. Everyone is welcome, and the standard Friendly Space Policy applies. Cheers, Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 20:48, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I do not know who attended this meeting because I missed this meeting even though I planned to attend it. Brolin Empey 05:53, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
We had a good meetup with Jon and Will from UBC, and myself. We mostly talked about the WP:CANSANFRANBANFRAM case and various issues around integrating Wikipedia into university courses. QE Park is of course beautiful in the summer but we also found that it is buggy. Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 05:52, 7 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, you know you are a computer person when your first interpretation of “buggy” in the description of an IRL event is the “software defect” sense of the term. :-D Brolin Empey 06:14, 7 August 2019 (UTC)

2019‑06‑09[edit]

We will have an informal meetup on Sunday, 2019 June 9 at 10 AM at Kafka’s Coffee and Tea at 2525 Main Street, Vancouver. As with our gathering on 2019‑04‑14 , this will be a chance to chat and share experiences, nothing heavy. At least a few of us want to meet regularly, so watch for announcements for another meetup this summer and every 6 weeks or so thereafter. Cheers and happy editing, Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 23:19, 23 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This meeting was attended by the following persons:
* Clayoquot
* Jon from England
* Satya/Sathia (?) from India, who is editing articles about events in India
* myself

2019‑04‑14[edit]

Hi Vancouver Wikipedians! I'm organizing an informal meetup, as 1) It's been a long time since we got together, and 2) I'm doing some research about Wikipedia and would like to chat about your editing experiences, if anyone wants to share. How about, say, 10 AM Sunday April 14 at 49th Parallel Coffee at Main and 13th? This is a spacious cafe with lots of seating options. If that doesn't work for you but you'd like to attend, let me know and I'll try to figure out some alternative. I'm open to other venue and date/time suggestions. Cheers, Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 01:33, 30 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please sign up below if you plan to attend:

I plan to attend. I invited a friend too but I am still waiting for them to reply. Please feel free to privately contact me if you want to talk before the meeting. My email address is brolin@brolin.be . I look forward to hearing back from you and to meeting you soon. Brolin Empey 07:48, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

My friend said they cannot attend this meeting because they have to work today. So it looks like I will be going alone. Is anyone else going other than Clayoquot and me? Brolin Empey 11:30, 14 April 2019 (UTC)

There should be at least one other person. Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 15:46, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, and for me to document while I still remember, the meeting today was attended by the following persons:
* Clayoquot
* Denver, who drove from Hope, British Columbia and is involved with the Software Freedom Conservancy
* Jon from England, who teaches about Latin America at the UBC (?)
* Will Engels (?), who does something involving library and information science at the UBC (?)
* and myself, who has forgotten the MediaWiki syntax required to properly format this addition to this page. Please correct/improve my list as you see fit. I relearned some MediaWiki syntax before submitting this edit. Brolin Empey 04:18, 15 April 2019 (UTC)

Thanks Brolin. That was a fun meetup. We all agreed to try to meet regularly. Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 18:14, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

2011‑10‑23: Wikipedia Loves Libraries[edit]

Meeting summary

The Vancouver Wikipedia Loves Libraries event occurred on Sunday, October 23, 2011. A. Kupicki, The Interior, InverseHypercube, Chellspecker, Franamax, and White Cloud 2011 attended. We spent most of our time discussing a batch upload of the Vancouver Public Library Historical Photographs Collection to Wikimedia Commons. Although we could not find any staff on-site to talk to, we realized we would need to coordinate with them at a future time for legal and technical reasons. A. Kupicki had already talked to Kate Russell—Assistant Manager of Fine Arts, History & Special Collections, and Interlibrary Loans—so we decided that TheInterior and InverseHypercube would contact her with self-introductions as our two new liasons.

We also discussed the information the library would like on the photographs, and the creation of a template. Overall, it was a productive meeting, as we set out the plan for what to do next. Thank you everyone for coming, and thank you A. Kupicki especially for organizing everything!

Since the meeting, TheInterior and InverseHypercube have contacted Kate Russell to set up a meeting, but she said she needed to discuss with some other staff first. We hope to enrich Commons's database of Vancouver archival photographs in the near future.
