The Wikipedia Indonesia-Malaysia Meetup 2 (the 3rd Wikipedia Malaysia overseas meetup) was the second Wikipedia meetup of Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia (WCUGM) with Wikimedia Indonesia Chapter (WMID). This was the first Wikipedia meetup of the Malaysia user group in its 2nd year of establishment. The meetup was held on:

• Learned from the much more experienced Wikimedia Indonesia Chapter on how to run and renew chapter or user group. There is a possibility we might need to contact the Wikimedia Foundation for the second year of Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia
• Generating ideas of topics to write during any Wikipedia meetup (e.g. from hard copy books, Google Sheet etc)
• Introduction of Outreach Dashboard (https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/) for Wikimedia education program (counting and monitoring with specific duration)
• Scoring listing and factors for Wikipedia-related competition events. Make competition based on stages, until the final round winner to be given scholarship to attend Wikimedia-related conference in a particular country.
• Discussion on various types of competition method or approach in encouraging participants from the public, either to get more articles written or either to get more active Wikipedia editors for the long term (https://id.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiLatih_APG_2018/Dokumentasi_Aktivitas)

• Initial approach for promoting Wikipedia-related events to universities or colleges is to normally approach the head of the faculty. Those universities had no prior knowledge of Wikipedia events before. Can always promote the opportunity to get scholarships for Wikimania conferences or other Wikimedia-related events.
• Outreach steps: universities, competitions, government institutions, press release
• Free knowledge ambassador for press conference of WMID is Christian Sugiono
• Place banner advertisement on main page of en.wikipedia based on targeted geolocation
• Advisable to make a discussion board for a place to put general inquires from audiences (e.g. Village pump (or Warung Kopi for WMID))
• Make YouTube channel for WCUGM (e.g. how to start a page, how to edit a page etc)
• Wiki in Audio, so far only for featured articles (e.g. Wikimedia:Spoken articles, Wikipedia:WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia, Meta:Wikisound)
• Kiwix, an offline Wikipedia project for those areas with no Internet connection (to read Wikipedia offline)
• Discussion on problems on references (case study in Malaysia) which makes it hard to use it as legitimate reference for Wikipedia articles (e.g. many sources of places in Malaysia like museums or galleries have almost no notable references. Many of them come from personal travel blogs. Even from the local government tourism department website, those places are listed only as list, but not really a full coverage on each of its individual establishments
• Discussion on how to create referencing without doing original research:
  • Listing all types of insects case study by New Zealand Wikipedian.
  • Critter of the Week (in collaboration with the Department of Conservation) by New Zealand Wikipedian. It is basically how to get things as reference (that can be cited in Wikipedia for future use), at:

• Discussion on the progress and development of WCUGM over its 1st year tenure ship as user group, including various kinds of events to be held by Wikipedia Student Club at universities
• Passing on information from institutions in Indonesia which has been approached by WMID to the ones in Malaysia, by taking case study examples in Indonesia (e.g. Goethe Institute in Jakarta)
• The discouragement in id.wikipedia due to the needs of approval by admin for any new edit made
• The non-existence Freedom of Panorama law in Indonesia
• Wikipedia collaboration with museums and libraries: digitization. Taking case study example of music in Spotify, which is buying the license, but the flow of music is being kept, not like the old ways of buying per music or per 10 music in CD or cassettes. Another way is to scan things in low quality, put the detailed information of the institutions (museums or galleries), and advertise the venue to the world if audience would like to know more about that particular artifacts. Or putting another example is the recent fire at the museum in Brazil.
• There has been no official or ongoing research to indicate the direct linear correlation between writing an institution in Wikipedia (or digitizing their collections) with the growing number of visitors to those institutions. A complete thorough research is highly needed for these cases.
• Possibility to have internship-based work for a period of time as extra manpower for the user group to an attendee of Wikipedia meetup
• Collaboration between WMID and WCUGM for:
  • Making the future Johor Meetup with Consulate-General of Indonesia in Johor Bahru, in which WMID will send their people to help out during the meetup and probably the subsequent follow up events which arise after the initial meetup
  • Setting up Iban-language Wikipedia in Wikimedia Incubator because Iban is native to Indonesia's Kalimantan and Malaysia's Sarawak
  • Get people from central Sumatra region (Riau and Riau Islands provinces) to help contribute to Malay (ms) Wikipedia. One of the thing to do is the standardization of writing by Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore (countries where Malay language has the official language status of the country)
• Discussion in resolving some of Wikidata syntax errors, finding appropriate Wikidata statements and listing of Wikidata statements
