Comprehensive edits analysis
I B Wright began editing in 2006. Over the following 9 years they created sockpuppets and edited while logged out to intentionally fabricate consensus where none existed, and edit-warred using multiple accounts to maintain their own point of view in several topic areas. When challenged, they would use their multiple accounts to pursue and hound editors in other areas of the encyclopedia. Although they had been suspected of violations of the multiple accounts policy as early as 2008, there was no confirmation until late 2015 when CheckUser evidence connected three of their active accounts. At that time they were indefinitely blocked.

Over the next year they continued creating new accounts and having them blocked by CheckUsers. In the spring of 2017 they stopped creating new accounts and simply edit logged out from rapidly-changing dynamic IPs in a large subnet, which can occasionally be narrowed down depending on their activity. As of October 2017 they are editing from IPs in the range 86.149.0.0/16.

In August 2017 an account Burninthrutheskysworstnightmare (talk · contribs) was discovered and indefinitely blocked. It's not clear that this account was created by I B Wright.

As of November-December 2019 I B Wright has chosen user ZH8000 as their preferred harassment target (e.g. [1], [2], [3]). New instances of abusive IPs should be blocked on sight.

Targeted areas, pages, themes[edit]

  • Railways, especially British railways, railway signals, and the London Underground
  • Electrical systems, electrical power generation/distribution, railway electrical systems
  • Aerospace engineering
  • Political units in Switzerland

Habitual behavior[edit]

A new/not recently used IP challenges information in one or a series of articles in their target interest, often challenging referenced material by simply removing it, then edit-warring to maintain the removal. Their content removals are often paired with attacks about an editor's motivation or intelligence, such as "user with 100% history of disruptive edits". If their edit is challenged or they are reported to a noticeboard, they then chase the reverting editor to their recent contributions and indiscriminately revert with misleading and inaccurate edit summaries, such as "block evading troll". They often chase a user that they have pursued previously; as of October 2017 their preferred users to harass include Burninthruthesky and Wtshymanski. If they are blocked they may return right away with a different dynamically-assigned IP, or they may go away for a time before returning to the same areas of disruption.
