I doubt that this meets WP:NFCC#1. It's just a normal prison building, and its appearance and construction does not particularly help to explain anything in the article Sednaya Prison, which is mostly about the atrocities that took place there. Also, are we sure that there are no free images, e.g. by U.S. government satellites? This is an artists' impression of a person being tortured by being beaten with sticks at Sednaya Prison. I doubt that the file meets WP:NFCC#1. It does not require a particularly strong imagination to visualize how a beating looks like, and the information conveyed by the image could therefore be replaced with text. Some of the other torture methods depicted at the source page are more complicated and would be better suited for an image under WP:NFCC#1. @BU Rob13: A single cover cannot show the novel production of dual books nor the progression of style from the 50s to the 60s, nor show the changes when the two versions merged, nor show the different version produced by Shoney's and used by several major regional franchisees. These are comic books, not formal logos. For example, the same Big Boy logo was used when different books were published by Marriott and Shoney's.

Six of the covers are essentially identical pairs but are used for comparison. NFCC 3a refers to using different items to show the same thing, not the same to show differences. The 1st pair (important as the first issue) use stylized figures so I added a 2nd pair from the 13th issue. The 2nd and 3rd pair show differences from 1957 to 1969, and to the next months single issue synthesis. Note that the 1969 East and West Coast logos are not the same though the comic book was. The older East and West Coast logos were quite different but the Big Boy used in the dual versions was posed the same. Simply describing such issues is confusing but easily apparent visually.

Because I am using several covers, the size of each cover is smaller than typical comic book covers.

NFCC must be considered subjectively. These comic books were free monthly promotional items. No commercial opportunities are (nor could be) compromised but display actually serves the interests of Big Boy. • Copyright has expired on covers 1-4. The issues predate 1964 and no renewal records were found at the US Copyright Office. (At that time, Big Boy = Robert C. Wian Enterprises.)
• Covers 5-7 retain copyright (to Marriott Corp.) regardless of renewal. These are the last two covers before and first cover after the merger. This significant event is discussed in the article.
• Cover 8 was produced for Shoney's, not Big Boy (Marriott), and produced independently. This reduces NFC issues. Significance is discussed, viz, that it was distributed by about half of the Big Boy restaurants, representing tensions between franchisees leading to defections a decade later.

This should reduce concerns. I will revise the image's rationale presently.

• The purpose is to show the merged comic book and the cover style used (there were seven).
• No free image for this purpose is available.
• This is not the same as the Big Boy logos; not one but two logos were created in 1969 and used exclusively.
• This cover image represents 0.3% of the eligible covers for this purpose.

Image 8

• In 1976 the largest franchisee, Shoney's, created an independent comic book.
• It was produced by Paragon, not WEBS Advertising/Timely.
• It used a different Big Boy and completely different of supporting characters.
• This book was used by Shoney's, JB's and Azar's (franchises) so it was used by almost half of the Big Boy restaurants.
• No commercial opportunities do or could exist. Shoney's and Big Boy parted in 1984 and are competing restaurants.
• No free image for this independent comic book exists.

Covers 7 and 8 represent the only versions known to many readers, those born after 1965.

This is not a proposal for deletion. It is a debate on the image usage in both Der Landser and Franz Kurowski. Copying Marchjuly original rationale:

Decorative use of non-free cover art in Franz Kurowski#Work for Der Landser. As explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3, non-free cover art is generally considered acceptable as the primary means of identification in a stand-alone article about the work in question, so non-free use is fine for Der Landser. In other articles, however, the cover art itself typically has to be the subject of sourced commentary in order to provide the context required by WP:NFCC#8. There's no real justification for non-free use of this image in the author's article and it should be removed. A wikilink to the relevant book are is more than sufficient as explained in item 6 of WP:NFC#UUI.

• Comment: I tagged the file with {{di-disputed fair use rationale}} because I felt its use in the author's article did not comply with WP:NFCCP. I still feel that way and suggest remove from "Franz Kurowski" and keep for "Der Landser". My reasons for this have already been re-posted above GeorgeHo and further expanded upon on the file's talk page (see the above link), so there doesn't seem to be any point in repeating things here. I appreciate your usage on the template. However, sometimes the template is slowly becoming less useful and less effective (to keep a file), and even when it says "the file will be deleted or removed from some uses". Also, the template is part of the WP:F7 criterion and discussed at WT:CSD#Re-reviewing F7 criterion - Invalid fair use claim (April 2017).
