In recognition of Women's History Month, the librarians of Tennessee State University and Vanderbilt University are hosting a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon. We have combined the theme for African American History Month (“African Americans in Times of War”) with the National Women History Month theme (“Nevertheless, She Persisted: Honoring Women Who Fight All Forms of Discrimination”). Our focus will be on “Women Warriors.” A suggested list of names is below, however, participants can select their own biography to create or edit.

This edit-a-thon is being conducted to increase the number of female Wikipedia editors as well as to heighten representation of women featured articles.

WHO: We invite Tennessee State University students, faculty, and staff ONLY

WHAT:This Edit-a-thon will focus on replacing 'citation needed' flags with citations to authoritative sources and created stub articles on women who have fought in wars . University librarians and faculty will be on hand to assist with research and Wikipedia's citation style. This event is FREE.

WHEN: Friday, March 30, 2018 at 10:00am-12:30pm

WHERE:The edit-a-thon will be held at Tennessee State University's main campus in Room 315 of the Brown-Daniel Library.

OTHER: Computers, Wifi and electrical outlets will be provided, but feel free to bring your own laptop for use. It is recommended that you create a Wikipedia account beforehand, since Wikipedia has a limit on the number of accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period (currently 6).
