- James Mouat (history · last edit) from [1]. It is noted as having been sourced from a third location within the article, but I can't find any indication of the copyright status of that text or that we have any permission to use it. The original text was added by an IP user in 2004. Dekimasuよ! 09:10, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- The article was created during the Victoria Cross.net migration project Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Victoria Cross Reference migration and the site owner gave permission (though I appreciate that in this case that may not have been sufficient). Looking at the migrated version [2] (and indeed the article immediately before it was blanked), I think the copyvio text is actually limited to the "Further Information" section, the rest is the usual boilerplate basic description of who he was and what he did to win the VC, though even that could probably be improved in copyright/plagiarism terms by making the description an explicit quote from the original citation published in "No. 22149". The London Gazette. 4 June 1858. p. 2756. (these Gazettes are initially published under Crown Copyright, which has long since expired in this instance, though we should still of course provide proper attribution). Blanking only the Further Info section would probably be sufficient to save the coyright position though. David Underdown (talk) 16:18, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- Agree that ONLY the "Further Information" section is problematic - NOT the whole article. Pdfpdf (talk) 18:51, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- Problematic section removed. I leave it to regular contributors to rewrite what may be needed for the article. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:24, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

- Thanks for noting the problem. In this case, we're all right, as we used the text several years earlier than they did. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if the text in our article wasn't copied from somewhere. :/ Noted my concerns at article talk. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:54, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
