Discussion[edit]

I have added that short description to {{Infobox Pan American Games event}}, which is transcluded in 1,847 articles. That should take care of most of the proposed list. If you redo the list to exclude articles that already have an appropriate short description, what does the list look like? (Note: Please wait one hour before regenerating the lists, to allow time for null edits of affected articles.) We may be able to resolve this by tweaking a few templates instead of editing hundreds of articles. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:09, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed; any time you get a list wherein 95% of the titles have the same phrase (in this case "at the Pan American Games") there's a good chance a templated option is the best way to go. (before you refresh your list, you might want to wait until the shortdescs I'm chucking into Category:Athletics at the Pan American Games navigational boxes clear through as well) Primefac (talk) 21:16, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think almost all of the articles have SDs now, but some of them may be undesirable. A bot run to remove some bad SDs might be useful. I'm seeing a lot of bad ones in Category:Events at the 2019 Pan American Games, for example, like "Individual dressage competition of the equestrian events at the 2019 Pan American Games". Regenerating the above lists and excluding entries with good SDs would be helpful. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:48, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I'll try to regenerate the lists.  Doing . ― Qwerfjkltalk 17:48, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95 @Primefac: Updated now. I'll see if I can further shorten the the lsits. ― Qwerfjkltalk 18:04, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The vast majority of the articles on the updated lists have short descriptions already. Please check your methodology for generating the lists. Examples: Swimming at the 2003 Pan American Games – Men's 200 metre butterfly, Athletics at the 2003 Pan American Games – Men's 3000 metres steeplechase. Click through any article link to see that the article has an SD. The primary exception is articles containing "Qualification", which may need manual SDs. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:31, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I know, the method I use only finds direct transclusion. I'll try to fix this. ― Qwerfjkltalk 19:20, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I believe I've fixed this, it took ~200 off the list. ― Qwerfjkltalk 21:20, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Keep trying. Nearly all of the Athletics articles should disappear from the list. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:26, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
